considering this is for a team playing finals, it's a very poor attendance, takes us back to the days of the Fury and gold coast united

Worse, takes us back to the days of South Melbourne, when they were getting crowds of 3k

Yeah stop being so negative. 5,000 (bullshit more like 3k) people bought tickets to that crap.

Meanwhile MK v SM had 2.5k with zero chance of either team playing top tier after 15 years. Makes you wonder if it has been worth the price on development of stadia and players.

2.5k for the original Melbourne derby yet both teams will average 10k in the top flight....righto.

Also, SMFC actually did average 9 to 10K per game in the last seasons of the NSL, apart from the very last season where it averaged 7300 per game.

Hmm not really by the looks of it.

No shame whatsoever

the Hellas crowds were pretty good for what was a semi-pro league, we'll be wrapped if the new 2nd division teams can get anything close to it

That’s ridiculous crowd fudging even by city standards, I’d say they had at most a couple hundred more then the knights v South game. Don’t forget you had a not bad 600 odd at Heidelberg v Kingston as well, dandy city also played Oakleigh last night. Pretty good night of npl.

I agree.

I watched the second half and there literally was hardly NOONE on the 3 sides the camera can see.

So there was nearly 5k on the camera side? I call massive BS on that.

What's with all the negativity? Without Melbourne City we wouldn't have 3 derbies to look forward to. Without Melbourne City we also wouldn't have....No let's just stick with the 3 derbies.

That's an amazing crowd considering what these teams need to deal with in a dead end league.

Well done!

Does it look like I'm defending it though? I have no attachment to a franchise, they go another franchise comes in.

Yeah well,  if you are going to base your argument on crowds,  then there it is.  The Barcelona of Australian football,  Oceania team of there century drew 5-8k.  We can never go back there,  you can come and join us but we aren't going back.

I'm always happy to accept the official figures, and it's certainly possible to have 5k on the camera side, but the key point is that even if we accept that 5k was there, it's a woeful figure for a team looking to play finals.

That is a lot more impressive given the fact it was a semi pro league with less marketing and exposure.

Imagine they were in the HAL today. Would they attract more yes or no?

Newsflash the league has been shit for a while now, stop the delusion.  I still follow the franchise but if they disappeared like any franchise can do, I won't lose any sleep.
One can not follow if a franchise ceases to exist.

Well you are being very unrealistic then because there is no reason why they wouldn't with more exposure, and hype.

To attract the crowds they did back in the NSL was actually a marvelous feat.

I can vouch for that. Perth in the old days was more of a club - not a franchise.

With the inception of the HAL, the entire system changed and Perth was no longer a club but another Ronald McDonalds franchise with no connection to the old Perth Glory.

And now we see the results of this. Interest down, crowds down, ands just the same old plasticky plastic franchise model people can’t relate to as much.

You literally have a Wanderers logo on your profile.

Maybe he aspires for a better Aleague. Just because he supports the Aleague doesn't mean he doesn't want to see pro/rel.

We can do better than what we currently are.

A lot better. There isn't enough positive thinking going forward.
