Missed the first session, but Australia after struggling to take a wicket in the 2nd session, have looked very potent - yet have only taken 2 wickets.

 Pakistan is 2-226.

Holland is bowling with nice loop as he tosses it up high, above the batter's eye line.

He just got Azhar Ali out, caught by Starc off his bowling.

 Pakistan are 3-240.

More of the same when we play a sub continental nation.
Merciless heat, doctored decks spells a tuff grind by the visitors.. specially if they lose the toss. Three wickets in 90 overs is a poor return by the Baggy Greens. I can see us chasing no less than 400. Praised be Younis and Ul Huk have retired. We could then be looking at a 600 chase.

Where are these next 7 wickets coming from? I wanted to see more from Labuchagne. In his few overs he held his own against both batsmen and created a chance that fell safely. Holland continues to look mediocre when handed a Baggy Green.. Lyon is his usual accurate but ineffective self... Both need to stand up today.  Hopefully the second new ball will reverse more than the first as that could be our only salvation.

Baggygreenmania, both teams play on the same pitch. The conditions are the same for both teams.

The conditions are similar throughout India, Pakistan, UAE, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

We need to improve in these conditions despite having a lot of bad luck in their first innings. We should have many more wickets .

Conditions are not the same for both teams.  Those nations doctor the pitches for two reasons.. because they know that the western nations are poorer players of spin and that they are given free rein by the games governors.  Why are non sub cont nations such mediocre players of spin? I dont know the answer. CA has installed Indian like pitches at the NCC  yet half our blokes still have no idea how to competently keep out the turning ball.

The Saffers are worse than us while England and NZ are about the same as us.
What is needed is for the ICC to forbid the hosting team from preparing pitches that clearly favor them. Not only in sub cont but everywhere. the Poms do it when we tour there. There should be a level -playing field in all series from the first ball.

It needs to be recognised these pitches are not necessary 'doctored'.

Our Oz pitches play almost like no others,   which favour  the home team  - Australia.

Most cricket nations play much more cricket on Subcontinental pitches, than Australia. It is no co-incidence we are the worst team in Asian conditions, because these conditions are the most unfamiliar to us.

Mediocre pace bowlers look good in the Shield, whilst good spinners look mediocre. This is because the likes of Peever and co, want batter friendly, pace friendly pitches in Oz.

Agree Labuchagne should bowl more overs.

We dominated the last session last night and should have taken more wickets.

The trouble  is we will be tired when we bat.

We've bowled better than our returns - without luck.

Yes they are doctored. The same way the Poms doctor theirs when we tour. We maybe used to doctor ours.. but not any more since drop ins. Other than Brisbane the rest are batting friendly roads. The SCG is back turning but generally easy batting conditions. MCG, SACA, Hobart, SCG are no longer traditional Australian conditions. The new Perth Stadium is an unknown quantity. As it is another drop in you can lay bets it will also be a road.

If the on field umpire had given Lyon’s appeal out a minute ago, it would have been out. Instead we had to waste an appeal .

This reminds me of many line ball decisions that went against the Oz spinners in Sri Lanka, which would’ve changed the series in our favour.

Am I the only one that thinks that DRS rule is a nonsence. Lyons ball was shown to be hitting the stumps yet because the umpire had ruled not out the third umpire backed up his mate by not giving it. This must really rile the bowler.

Baggygreenmania, I’m on my mobile and can’t quote, but within an Overseas context our pitches are relatively similar.

Ashwin looks potent all through the Subcontinent, but recently looked innocuous in England and was dropped.

Lyon has definitely had his moments, even though he has only taken 1 wicket in 44 economical overs.

When Marsh just beat the bat, it was close to LBW.

So many close decisions on what is at the moment, a dead pitch.

It annoys me, Lyon not getting the DRS, Baggygreenmania, because if the umpire had given it out on the pitch, it would’ve been out!

Ashwin looks potent in the subcont because he bowls solely on dust bowls. He also looked rather inocuous last time he toured OZ. Doesnt the BCCI see that their policy of doctoring pitches could backfire on them if blokes like Ashwin lose confidence and quit before their time. I wanna know why the ICC continues to condone this practise.

Gotta hand it to Lyon. He is not going to run thru a side but by heck he can bowl accurately.. gives you no easy runs. This must build  pressure on the batsman.

Labuschagne gets a wicket, caught behind by Paine.

It was only slight spin, turning away from the right hand bat.

Beautifully pitched leg spinner DC. Turned just a smidgin. Good snaffle by Timmy too.

Labascagne is  starting to get some spin for his wrist spinners.

There was an appeal, that was reviewed and rejected, followed by Finch dropping one at slip.
