Just wanted to get a sense of how most of the people on this forum watch a-league games. Personally i watch on foxtel, but that new my football live streaming app looks like a good deal.

Previous season, trying to find some dodgy stream.
This season, VPN with MyFootball Youtube Stream. Kudos to FFA(?) for getting this set-up. No problems watching in HD with it streamed to my TV.

Why can't I get the A-League on a stand alone subscription like they offered overseas customers a few years ago. Wasn't it $10 a month or something like that?

The truth is that no League is worth that much. Foxtel goes at the end of this season and after that I'll probably just read about it in the papers, except I don't get the papers.

The A-league is not a super league. agree if only interested in AL but you'd be a mug for only that but not available alone in any case. Fox still has plenty to watch in general for those inclined and alot of other sports - comes down to what you want and willing to pay. I have a home internet large bundle + fox incl landline, unlimited broadband other unlimited items - couple of wifi boosters. Docos portion $10 Sport portion is $29 - I'm on a good deal since Fox commenced. Those who chop and change end up paying more, having stuck with them since it started they bend over not to lose you. I tried streaming EPL when they lost it to Optus and the feeds were crap dropping in and out - probably has improved by now by the sounds of things but due to the WC I took up the OptusSport cheap offer, I'm covered.

+xAnd then you all complain the fox deal was crap and the ratings suck yet no one is paying to watch! Can't justify spending for Foxtel anymore, no one can that is why their subscriptions are plummeting and there isn't a viable local streaming service so they don't leave many options. Also, only 300-400 people watch these stream regardless, not enough to make a change to the ratings.

I watch a lot of other sports as well as a lot of the premium drama on Foxtel, so I personally still find some value in having it (although it's getting harder) so 95% of my viewing is via Foxtel. The other 5% is either me lying in bed watching it on ONE (only got FTA in the bedroom) or on my phone (used to be via Foxtel GO but increasingly using the MyFootball app as it's actually a slick little app that does what it says on the box - unusual for something that is associated with the FFA!) whilst out and about.
I will also say that I think the MyFootball app has been one of the better initiatives the FFA has done - the streams are good and fast, and it's a convenient one stop shop for news and highlights regarding pretty much every facet of football. If they could evolve it into a true streaming platform (by allowing things like Chromecast) then it could be a genuine force for getting people watching the games and consuming football content.

I personally think Foxtel charges to much for someone that just wants to watch their team play away games.
I use to have Foxtel and Sky when overseas to watch the football
But times have evolved, i have Optus Sport for watching EPL, Netflix, and Amazon Prime for Movies and TV series.
I watch what i want, when i want.
I support my Club with my two Platinum Season Memberships
Now if Foxtel released a A League streaming app for a decent price, i would pay for it.

+xFoxtel have. It’s through Telstra and the my football app Im not watching Football on my Telstra phone, it won't even allow me to watch on my iPad mini as it is over the 7 inch limit. I've got a 82 inch 4K tv sitting in my living room to watch football, offer me a stand alone football app with decent resolution for Apple TV and ill take it. people will pay for it, just need a standalone product with access to unlimited screen size

Spend the $39/month to use the Foxtel Now service across playstation, web browser and phone apps. It works well for me since everything FFA Cup, A-League, Asian Champions League, NBL, NBA and Supercars are all in the one place.
If the My Football app could do fullscreen (65 inch) as I understand it's under the same restrictions as the NRL and AFL apps with the 7 inch limitation. I would be on their at the price point they are at. I would then get NBA tv as well and I would then be paying less per year than I am with Foxtel.
I used to do the illegal streaming thing a long time ago, but quality was very miss and often listening to games in foreign languages was interesting. But decided to get foxtel as I never enjoyed the free to air experience. But usually once the A-League hits offseason and my NBA team are out of the running, I will cancel subscription until it all begins again a couple of months later when the FFA Cup R32 begins.

Same set up as you. I ended up buying a Chromecast for $60 due to no Xbox App. They used to have one, but didn't update it when it became Foxtel Now (used to be Foxtel Play - app still exists I think but is shit). The Chromecast works flawlessly in full HD, whereas the old Xbox app was only SD and stuttered alot. They are now raising the prices of the Now service so it will be $53 (doesn't apply to existing customers). This may affect your cancel at the end of season and resume the next season pricing.

I subbed to FOX now and play it from the playstation so i can watch it on the TV.
For some reason they don't have an Apple TV app or an Xbox app, so you can only use it from the playstation if you want to watch it on the TV. Bizzare.
FOX now leaves a lot to desired though. It is supposed to be an "on demand" service but i when i went to watch the Friday night game after it aired live, there was no replay or catchup option. The next time it aired was 4am Saturday morning which is ridiculous.
Optus blows FOX out of the water with their service.
Optus has the game on demand as soon as it's finished live, not long after has the mini match option and short highlight option.
If FOX don't pick up their act, they are going to lose subs year on year as their competition leaves them in the dust.

I agree mate, foxtel need to get better with this on demand service, they are happy to show things live on foxtel now at 720P HD, but when you want to catch up, its held on their servers as really bad SD. Which is terrible to watch on large screens. I had been waiting for them to upgrade the foxtel play apps on either the xbox or samsung tv and has not been forthcoming at all. My last international trip with work, picked up a playstation so I can enjoy it now. But yes truly bizarre they have been so slow to implement, Optus Sport seemed like they got out to every platform just prior to the world cup. Optus Sport which I found I get for free with my service I use is brilliant, I don't really watch a lot of the overseas leagues or cricket. But when I've put it on while at work with my team, it's been fantastic.

After reading through this I realised that I am well covered because I have a Telstra phone as well as an Optus phone.
My Foxtel sub is on life support. They reduced it to $39 just to have the A League on (HD). Now I get a letter that tells me they are increasing the monthly fee because the cricket or something will be on FHD. Really? I am supposed to now pay more for something I don't want, something I can't use and am supposed to pay it just because?
They gave me a couple of weeks of every channel recently for free. It simply proved to me that they have nothing I want to watch on at any time I might be interested in watching it.
It's definitely gone after the season. No way back.
Some tool will say it's because the A League has gone backward or the FFA or somesuch. It's not. It's Foxtel and their pricing and their programming and the knowledge that I owe the Murdochs absolutely nothing.

+xJust sorted a VPN. NordVPN. Works a treat and picked Romania first as they apparently have fast internet there. Germany gets a game a week but now I can watch much more. Which countries do you use? Slovakia is my nearest but Czech or France also work. Those in Australia should use Japan.

So proximity to the server location affects speed?

So proximity to the server location affects speed? Pretty much - closer you are to the server as the crow flies more often you'll be better off. That said, I reckon European internet infrastructure would be good enough that you could go just about anywhere and not see a problem with the stream.
