+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xBaggers Even though Cummins bowled a little faster yesterday, he has already gone from a demon express bowler to a fast medium line and length bowler in a very short period of time. What he was extracting out of dead pitches in Asia was amazing last year. At the time he was the most lethal fast bowler in the world. Of course bowlers like Hadlee peaked late in his thirties at reduced speed, but Cummins is far too young to be losing an average of about 7 kph per ball. Relatively, Cummins is looking innocuous compared to Starc, Rabada and Bumrah, whereas he had far more intimidation and fire than any of them a season and a half ago. I was saying to Baggers that I don't think Cummins is 100% fit. I can't explain it, it is just a general poor performance. Speed down, line poor etc. His performance in Futures league was nothing special that would promote to Sheffield Shield level let alone Australian colours. I don't solely blame Cummins because he will want to play for Australia, and his "Gillette" promotional contract would warrant he is playing for Australia. Even Greg Blewett has a man crush on him (I can't believe he said that on National TV). I blame the trainers and medics and ultimately selectors for playing him if that is the case. But in saying that if Australia score 300 he is my pick to take wickets in the 2nd innings. a demon express bowler. What he was extracting out of dead pitches in Asia was amazing last year. At the time he was the most lethal fast bowler in the world. Will we ever see him back to that Mike, DC, grazor? I fear not. Disagree Baggers Cummins should be doing time at shield level, just like Pattinson. Cummins for his career has been given the easy road. Out for 2 years and first game back playing for Australia. C'Mon Pattinson has a superior record and they want him to play at shield level for 1 year then selected him, he blew the opposition apart then got injured again. If he doesn't come back, selectors fault not Cummins. IMO Cummins is a potential great but injury and his treatment by selectors is going to be his undoing, sort of like the wild thing Shaun Tait. We need Cummins, and players like Pattinson and Behrendorff to be great and be competitive but they are mis-managed at shield level and never get over injury and we will never see the best in action. If I have read the situation of Pattinson correctly..he alone is to blame for his current predicament. He said at the time of his umpteenth injury that he was no longer moderating his action as the docs had advised him. How long after that did he get his last and to date final back injury. CA has run out of patience with him for a early return like Cummins was given. They are keeping Patto in cotton wool by giving him a solid shield season to prove he is now injury free. Even if Cummins does not retain his express pace I still rate him over Pattinson as the better bowler. "Early return" what??? FIRST TIME INJURED Pattinson had to do time at shield level for a year! END OF STORY. Cummins out for 2 years straight back into the Australian side. For 2 years Cummins was Paid a contract for nearly a million dollars, he never lost his contract Pattinson did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(is that clear enough) If that doesn't shout bias I don't know what does. NOW BAGGERS YOU'RE STARTING TO TURN ME AGAINST CUMMINS. Unfortunately I can't use much against him YET!!!!!!!!!! Cummins played some ODi games, though... He played ODI in 2015 in England, think he played some in 2016 as well... Pattinson remodelled action was not effective for wicket taking nor pace. So he reverted... I prefer peak Pattinson - always have - always will... he offers far more when fit and firing. He has a lovely outswing, great in seam... But will he ever regain fitness and full speed? Could say same about Cummins. He had so much going for him before this string of stress injuries. The way he dismantled a strong Saffer batting lineup with ferocious pace, and swing. He was a demon. He too sadly will never be the same either. If Patto and Cummo were fit as they were before injuries they would be first two picked in my Aussie side. Yeah ---- this is a fair call... But I like Pattinson's genuine swing ability and relentless aggression with accuracy - he really is a Dale Steyn type... He will leave gaps in covers - because he is saying "I dare you to drive me"...

+x+xHow many do Australia need to feel safe boys? what!! back from putting the bins out and find Khawaja has also departed. With the batsmen gone I wanna see Cummins turn from his fine defensive qualities to a pinch hitter. He and starc should look to lift this score upwards to 300.That is more than sufficient on this deck imho.

If a bloke is paid big bucks he must be seen to deserve it. You look for bias and controversy in everything Mike. Sure you have never been a journo. Just for once post a simple post. Like the rest of us do. Paddles likes in depth stuff. Post to him please.. The stick to the modified action wasn't working for him, he might as well give the game away. But showing his strength of character he gambled but it didn't work out but when he did return to test cricket and blew Hazlewood off the park Pattinson 4 tests 19/450 av 23 Hazlewood same 4 tests 11/406 av 36.9 Hazlewood must be thanking his lucky stars for Pattinson's injury, otherwise he would be picking up garbage in the outer, just goes to show how a bit of competition shows up the mediocre. During all this Cummins was on the side lines earning millions of dollars for nothing. So how is Cummins going in this series 3/164, Now it starts!

Was at the SCG and there had been some rain previous day, so pitch had been under the covers. Boy did h it have some life. This deck reminds me of it. Both Hazlewood and Pattinson put on a masterclass.. Most of their deliveries were unplayable. If memory serves Hazey beat Brad Hodge six balls in a row. Not sure if this was before or after Josh had his first stress injury. Would love to see coverage of that match again. The best bowling I have ever seen live.

Shami is the second fastest with Yadav now bowling mid 130's... I know he's bowling low 130's now - but he overs at 139-141 for his early spells... Sharma is easily the slowest these days...

Because he kept ignoring doctors orders to stick with the modified action. Put a sock in it Mike. Give us all a break. To quote the great man John Joseph Nicholson "you can't handle the truth" Which reminds me I haven't watched "A Few Good Men" lately. Thanks Baggers. Sorry if I appeared rude mate. Just play another record. I back whoever is wearing the Baggy Green. That is all I wanna say.

+x+xJekyll and hyde deck. Shami Indias slowest bowler has them spitting and lifting while their quickest Bumrah is bowling gazzundas. Good luck on this deck India. Shami is the second fastest with Yadav now bowling mid 130's... I know he's bowling low 130's now - but he overs at 139-141 for his early spells... Sharma is easily the slowest these days... Second slowest then. But not by a lot. I often wonder why Sharma does not utilize his great height more by pitching it short.

This is very closely poised. I think Australia can get the two openers cheapy. Vijay is fading as a player, perhaps his last ever test with Shaw back for the next test. Rahul is still youngish but I do not rate him at all. However if Pujara and/or Kohli can get in a play an innings I think they can very close to 300. I said earlier that I wanted Australia to get 250-280 and I think will give us a huge chance to win but it is not happening.
I think the Indian pacemen are more skilled and better at exploiting the conditions. However Australia has a quality spinner which might bring the attacks back to be more even.
Heavy roller will flatten the pitch out again.
At the moment I think India can win this, but Australia the slight favourite.

Nah Shami is second fastest :p Sharma uses the shorter ball as a variation, but he is far more about accuracy these days. He just keeps hitting length varying the inswing up with straighter ones. He's less volatile these days and focuses on the numbers...

But Kohli aint bowling Yadav... and if Kohli don't bowl you... you don't play the next test... Could be any of Ash, Jadeja or Kumar...

Even though he is out of form, Rahul is a key wicket here...
If he comes out guns blazing for a quick 50 - the game changes...
Vijay and Pujara will grind it - so they won't change the game quickly...

Lead by 251.
Is it enough with their quality batting in the top six?

You’ve convinced me India can win on this pitch.
I hope you are wrong. I’m nervous.

balls are as important as runs as the pitch is deteriorating fast
longer we can delay the better

+xI'm going to make a bold prediction... U Yadav dropped next test... Is Ashwin going to be fit? If so he comes in for Umesh Yadav no matter what. Jadeja or Kuldeep Yadav will play otherwise. I just cannot see the MCG producing a pitch which will have India even considering for a second playing 4 quicks. Shaw has to come in for Vijay or Rahul, neither are good enough so toss the coin.

K Yadav is arugably the better option, but the Indian tail is an issue...
