It was the first of three in a row for squad appearances in the final by AFC players though, Takashi Usami was an unused sub for Bayern Munich in 2012 as was Langerak for Dortmund in 2013. Park Ji Sung also had a full game for United in 2009, Kewell came on as a sub for Liverpool in 2007 against Kalac on the bench for Milan, Kewell famously off after 23 minutes for Liverpool in 2005, and Frank Juric on the bench for Leverkusen in 2002. Ali Dei is West Asia's last shout on the bench for Bayern in 1999, but we can also claim Christian Vieri. I won't bother looking back any further for now but that was fun.

Congrats to Haraguchi for failing to score and being the Hannover big buy to score goals this season. Asano equally rubbish on loan this season with 0 scorer points.

Asano equally rubbish on loan this season with 0 scorer points. my god you are pathetic. taking out your frustrations on the two japanese guys. if haraguchi was australian you would be creaming your pants every weekend at the guy playing first team football in the bundesliga. by the way haraguchi has never been a big scorer any where he's played. i don't know why you expected him to score so many goals this season.

If Haraguchi were Australian I'd be quite annoyed at the lack of result. Leckie had a pretty tough season on the scorer front too. I just dislike the way these two players got way overhyped and unfortunately never delivered.

4-0 to Chile lol. Wtf is wrong with Japan? That's a humiliating result for them.

+x4-0 to Chile lol. Wtf is wrong with Japan? That's a humiliating result for them. They’re were playing a second team and had no final touch. Kubo, the 18 year old who has just signed for Real Madrid, was invisible and they looked sloppy all over.

Japan making inroads with talented players, also their youth teams have had great times at the u20 World Cup and making the final at Toulon Tournament along competing well with a young team at Copa America.
Recently Tomiyasu has joined Serie A side Bologna and Nakajima joining FC Porto.
Also a couple of their players from their under 20 World Cup team have moved to Dutch sides with AZ Alkmaar signing a 20 year old full back and attacker Keito Nakamura set to join FC Twente as well.
This is also coupled with Kubo joining Real Madrid and Hiroki Abe joining Barcelona with their B-team.
Many talented players Japan are starting to produce to the big leagues in Europe, this is what Australia is up against!
