+x+xWhats interesting is 10 are on the record as saying they want two matches and have identified the time slots. Fox hold the rights and want money from 10. Fox despite what they say are happy with Football... its the cost they paid for the cricket that has brought very few new subscribers they need to recover... 10 want and appear willing to cover the cost of broadcasting there two matches but want sole broadcast rights. At USA board room level News & CBS don't like each other... and News is still sulking about missing out on 10 to CBS... Whats happening is two US media companies are essentially fighting over Australian Football broadcasting... Its not no one wants it... 10 promos still show the A-League... if they had no plans they would remove Hal from their promos... You heard it here first folks. Not one but TWO US media companies are fighting over the HAL! 😃 When viewed from that perspective, 2 mega US media conglomerates slugging it out over the HAL, things don't look to bad. Problem is, if they simultaneously knock each other out, we're still left without an FTA partner!

HHHHHHmmmmm .... were is the statement wrong ... 10 have publicly stated they want two Hal matches and have identified the timeslots... 10 are controlled by CBS America. Fox's major shareholder is News Limited which is an American company... Fox have said what 10 offered was not enough for sole broadcasting rights. We may still cope it in the neck but facts are facts and the above is true...

Exposes it all for what it really was, a grubby cash grab.

The HAL isn’t “sitting on its hands” .... Gallop and Lowys contract is in place - the FTA negotiations are between Fox and C10

I mean it's probably more accessible on FFV's own Facebook and YouTube broadcasts, but good on them for the signal boost.

+xThe HAL isn’t “sitting on its hands” .... Gallop and Lowys contract is in place - the FTA negotiations are between Fox and C10 one may imagine that the newly independent HAL would be concerned about the lack of FTA coverage this close to season start but despite all the bluster the new overlords have done even less than those they usurped. Can’t wait for the new advertising campaign..... Looks like you’ve taken over paulc’s mantle as resident HAL/FFA apologist.

The potential FTA deal is between Fox and C10 and no one else. As for any improvement in HAL advertising etc .... yup, not seeing it

Funny how both the Socceroos and hal were on FTA under Lowy. Then the new regime takes over and both seem to disappear...

all I know is that we are about to experience another drop in overall ratings, almost guaranteed, and that must affect sponsorship revenue

How can they mess up a tv deal that is subject to a 6 year contract signed by Lowy? If Lowy didn’t sign an FTA deal and gave everything to Fox to onsell then that the deal.

+xall I know is that we are about to experience another drop in overall ratings, almost guaranteed, and that must affect sponsorship revenue Yes we probably are. But there is nothing that can be done to correct five years of neglect when independence only occurred on August 1st this year (and technically still hasn’t happened due to the complexity of the structure created under lowy). It will take at least a year to figure things out and everyone needs to step back and let the new owners get on with it - and if they want 6 visa players let them go for it, their job is to create a successful league with the biggest tv component possible, not create a development league for lazy Australians guaranteed a starting position.

Lowy got the tv done without an FTA component which is now at the mercy of Fox Sports and their negotiating team. Lowy takes credit for a record value tv deal over a record six year length. The criticism at the time though was there was no FTA component or separate streaming rights. It was basically all eggs in the Fox Sports basket who are now calling the tune over FTA.

You have publicly pinned your flag to the Lowy's and now defend everything they did without even considering what you are saying. The Lowys were lucky . That TV deal happened when Fox was spending like a drunken sailor on sports. I could have brokered that deal . However I would have included a FTA component . Now times have changed and Fox realizes it is has overspent on the big sports and is in trouble with competition from other media platforms . If the Lowy's were still there the exact same problem with Fox would remain. The difference is we now have the clubs in charge and the league can run like a normal league and in a normal commercial way . There is no doubt they will make mistakes and you will no doubt revel in those as some sort of vindication you are right .....but...they at least will now have the ability, an incentive ,and the commercial nous, to fix those mistakes as they affect each of their bottom lines directly . The League may have some rough waters ahead but I think the new A-league with incentivized owners are best placed to address the issues Frank Lowy was a good thing in the early years but times change and so has the League and how it needs to be run . Get over it and move on .

Simple fact .....if the Lowy's were still there we would still be in an uncertain state as to what will happen when the current Fox deal finishes . It has nothing to do with who is running the league and everything to do with outside forces at play within the media spectrum. We would also still have a league going nowhere because of an old outdated franchise model that clearly does not work and a leader (Lowy) who could not work with the club owners .
