So are these the games that were postponed or is this the point  where the qualifiers would have been anyway  ?

The October matches were scheduled in March and the November matches were scheduled in June.

September, October and November were meant to have matches in the next stage of qualifying.

With the Federal government saying there likely wont be any o/s travel for Australians until next year and with our current incoming travellers required to undertake quarantine I'm not sure how this is going to work.
Surely the Aussie home games will have to be played at a neutral venue o/s as there is no way a team will go into quarantine in a hotel for 2 weeks before playing. And for the AFC underage tournaments later this year, assuming all the players coming back to Australia will have to quarantine for 2 weeks in a hotel too. Will be interesting to see what will happen.

Been thinking about this.  These quarantine & travel restrictions are going to be in place for a at least another 6 months.   Any "neutral"country as well if they happen to be relatively virus free won't want a two football teams & their entourage flying in without some sort of protocol as well.

Maybe they'll hold qualifying tournaments instead like the junior competitions?

Maybe, but it's still got to work around the FIFA calendar. It's a real quagmire.

How many leagues that paused and re-started have announced the start date for the next season yet? That's probably something FIFA has to wait on as well. If there's a large enough gap (for the big leagues at least, since that would apparently seem to be the main worry), and enough clearance in certain countries, that's probably something that they could be waiting on to determine re: qualification tournaments

I wouldn't want to be responsible for collating all that information, that's for sure.

Further delays

If Asia ever gets to the next stage of qualifiers I can see there may be a need to speed things up considerably either with a different home and away format such as 3 or 4 groups of 4 teams or a single rather than double round robin format if they do stick to 2 groups of 6.

I'm curious how they are going to cram so many games into the limited international windows that currently remain between now & the World Cup.  Not that far away really considering how many qualifiers are still left to be played.

They may have to negotiate double sized windows to fit four matchdays in apiece.

A January 24 - February 1 window has been confirmed

So the new schedule would conclude this stage of WCQ in March and kick off the next stage in June.

Even though the world cup isn't until November 2022 I'm struggling to see how they are going to squeeze all of the remaining World Cup qualifiers in be it the AFC or the other confederations also.

It is going to be necessary to reduce the number of games in most confederations.

For example I can see the 2 six team groups of AFC qualification reduced to a single round robin played over 5 games rather than 10, possibly over 2 longer windows.easy to do before the group has started.

CONMEBOL has already started so that gets very messy.

Tajikistan v Mongolia underway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRJ55w0ZMdA

1-0 in the third minute

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

North Korea have informed AFC that they will withdraw from the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification due to COVID-19 pandemic.

This has changed everything in World Cup qualifiers in the race for the four best 2nd place teams from each group.
