Plenty of midfielders to choose from, but not a whole lot of talent in defense.

+x+xThoughts on the squad? Familiar names from previous teams based on that list. For some reason I’m not buying the hype on Alex Robertson...yet. He seems to be getting a lot of hype from the media and the connections to Micheal Owen so I’ll remain skeptical for now. Alex Robertson is good...you don't get a scholarship + 2 year pro contract if you're not, not to mention getting capped. The squad looks fine - I did a bit of research on Raffie, the Fleetwood lad, and it seems he's highly regarded there and his brother is at Man City. Apart from him and the Caroutas the guy in Spain, almost of these guys are not new in the setup. Would have been nice to see some more new faces. Hopefully the camp just reinforces some onfield chemistry. Oh shit, he's already ten years old, cap him!

Brad Smith, Jake Brimmer we’re at Liverpool at the same age as Robertson but they of course weren’t good enough for the senior team, point being let’s learn from our lessons from the past and not jump the gun if he doesn’t select us. If he’s good enough in the future then fair enough but right now it’s way too early to judge any kid of that age.

He has however just signed for Man City for 4 years!

Good to see two of our boys there. We have more players in the camp then Adelaide United, CCM & Newcastle Jets, and tied with WSW, Melbourne Victory & Brisbane Roar. Production line is still strong.
Not a Phase, Not a Trend, SYDNEY UNITED till the END!

I was surprised this guy https://www.instagram.com/jordan.perezzz/didn't get a shout, he looks as though he's had a solid season in Spain, arguably at a better team than one of the other guys chosen who plays in Spain. Not sure how much the youth programs of either club differ, so that could be the reason. Hopefully if he continues performing he'll be looked at in the future.

I've noticed that squad selection is always seems to be unnaturally stacked towards VIC and NSW. I believe part of the reason is that more resources are required to scout the other states and the money isn't there to do so.

I have no idea how Kerrin Stokes didn't get a call-up, he's been playing senior footy consistently this whole year in a pretty decent Croydon side.

I don’t know how Sapsford from Hakoah hasn’t had a look in. Consistent 15-25 goals a season at age group level, and this year he’s made the step up to U20s where he’s scored consistently, and has even got minutes in the first team. Those goals are especially good when you consider the poor quality of Hakoah’s U20s side.

I believe part of the reason is that more resources are required to scout the other states and the money isn't there to do so. Trevor Morgan spent the last year scouting players all over the country, every state would present 30 of its best players to him and play ID matches and test who was the best. He did select 3 boys from the Perth Glory academy so maybe the talent in NSW and Victory is more superior for what he wants when competing at a global level like the World Cup.

Is he technically good or is he just a brick powerhouse who smashes through everyone his age because they are smaller than him?

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

+xNigeria and Ecuador are always very good at this level. Because the Nigerians receive their birth certificate when they're 10, thus playing against 27 year olds lol
