only 3 months till the first game. Who'd a thunk it! Given the international window starts on the 2nd of September, what's the chance of having a friendly before we kick off the WC qualifiers?

This is where New Zealand cums in handy, would be a ripper of a game considering the All Whites have a better squad then the Socceroos.

+xWhat would a nz starting 11 look like? Who cares. Nothing to gain by playing FIFA ranked 119 side, not playing in our confederation.

Bear in mind that this is correct if the Socceroos are drawn as A1/B1/C1 etc and not moved to A5/B5/C5 etc or otherwise adjust the draw to provide a bye on Match Day 10 (June 9) ahead of the 2020 Copa America kicking off on 12 June.. IMO this could be a possibility for both Australia and Qatar and has occurred previously with Japan in 2014 World Cup Qualification ahead of the 2013 Confederations Cup. If we are moved to Pot 5 then other teams in the Group would move up 1 pot meaning the Pot 2 side in our group would be the new Pot 1.

We lost once against China fielding a youth team with Harry Kewell. That was when we first joined the AFC and that's the only WCQ loss in Asia that we've had. So really unless we want to promote the game in Tassie it's not necessary.

It's not about it being necessary, it's just a great big Get Farked to the West Asian teams who we always seem to play in the middle of a desert summer, among their other usual antics. Making the Saudis fly all the way to Hobart and letting them suffer a wet and windy game would be excellent shithousery.

Throwing Tassie a bone would also be worth it, as far as I can tell there's never been a Socceroos game down there which is unacceptable. Most of all as you say it'd be a great middle finger to one of those West Asian teams and give them a hard time, which would be highly satisfying. Maybe we should hold off until the next stage to see if we get Saudi Arabia, hopefully on a match day in the middle of winter.

Like they should have made the Scots play Australia in Darwin for a World Cup Qualifier back in the day instead of Melbourne. I'm a big believer in making the opposition as uncomfortable as possible. Especially West Asian team whom I despise on general principles.

Unless this article is wrong: "Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Qualifiers draw for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Preliminary Competition and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 will be held on July 17, 2019 at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – providing Asia’s top 40 nations with their pathway to glory." http://www.the-afc.com/asiancup/news/asian-qualifiers-draw-to-provide-pathway-to-qatar-and-china

Yep I'm pretty certain it's still next week. The AFC should stream it on their youtube channel, I'll be sure to post it if nobody else beats me to it.

No full internationals but they had a B match in 1957 against Ferencvaros

Not only did an Australia XI play Ferencvaros in 1957 at North Hobart Oval, but a Tassie XI played against Hearts from Edinburgh there two years later, and two years after that a temporary basketball court was erected for the Harlem Globetrotters: https://turfmate.com.au/the-history-behind-north-hobart-oval/

I think we can all agree that in the 97 years since our first national team match in 1922 the fact that not one single full international home game has been held in one of our six states is not OK.
