SFC numbers are quite poor considering Sydney's population and the consistent success of the club.

Surprised how low the WSW figures are. Was expecting the 12.6k to be the baseline. All the red memberships (effectively the East stand) are sold apparently.

Has the hike in membership cost caused some people not to renew? A small element I assume. But they club did well to manage expectations imo. The increases were not phenomenal. I haven’t done a full comparison though.

Wanderers will have a large 'curiosity' turnout when they play a competitive match at the new Parra Stadium for the first few times. If they're not as complete shit as previous seasons they'll do ok.

these clubs need to market the membership louder so people hear!
take my team for example they have extended the wings for general admission plus i get a ticket to the derbies only the hardcore fans have noticed.

Well Victory has done OK in regards to membership. Ask yourself why Melbourne City hasn't.

Melbourne City remind me of the bad old days at Roar when fans/owners/management couldn’t see eye to eye and NOT buying a membership became a form of communication!

Yeah 1k for WU is slightly concerning, but to put it into perspective the Nix only have 800 or so more judging by those numbers and they’ve been around much longer. Let’s get a 2nd NZ team though ;)
I think WUs number will build after they play for a few more friendlies..they’ve only played 1 game ever obviously, so hopefully it’s a slow burn rather than no burn at all lol.

Is there a latent market for WU to draw from or is it all taken up by Victory and to a lesser extent by City and the ex NSL clubs?

WU are targeting a "limited time" 5k foundation memberships. You would imagine their research would place them there.

A bit like the Docklands special membership category (can't remember what they're called right now), 20 years ago these started at a price of something like $10,000 per annum

Is there a latent market for WU to draw from or is it all taken up by Victory and to a lesser extent by City and the ex NSL clubs? There are people interested in the club, but it's more of a 'let's wait and see' attitude at the moment and currently there isn't a lot to see. Especially regarding the stadium. Many people were left disappointed with the Heart expansion so they are understandably cautious about jumping on board straight away. One big issue is population density. It's simply too spread out at the moment. Long term, the reality is that the City of Wyndham is going to be were the core fanbase will be located, so as an exercise let's compare the City of Parramatta to the City of Wyndham. The City of Parramatta has a population of 251,311 and covers an area of 84km². The City of Wyndham has a similar population of 255,322 but covers an area of 542km². When WSW was introduced they only really needed to target a small physical area, whereas WU need to target a massive area to reach the same amount of people. That combined with no stadium, inadequate roads, near non-existent public transport, minimal community engagement makes it really difficulty for people to jump on board. The western suburbs that are closer to Melbourne (within ~25km from the CBD) are already served well by MV, MC and NSL/NPL clubs. For a person living in an area like Footscray, Sunshine or St Albans, there is not really much incentive to follow WU over MV or MC at the moment. The stadium changes things a bit, but right now there isn't much incentive.

Wanderers didn't target Parramatta they targeted the whole of Western Sydney because the football supporters are spread throughout the whole region which has a 2.2m population spread over 5,800 sq km. There is a bit of research around that indicates a football catchment area in an Australian city extends to about 1hr 15m travel time from home to stadium by walk and public transport. In Wanderers case that catchment would include the vast majority of the 2.2m population. Parramatta itself makes up a small percentage of the clubs members.

The point I was trying to make is that the council in which the WSW stadium is based has a vastly more dense population (7.5 times more dense) than WU has in Wyndham. Your correct about the surrounding councils also, WSW has adequately populated within a reasonable distance to the stadium. WU doesn't have that. They just have paddocks and no transport. It is a growing area and the population will grow, but it will be a slow growth for the club and won't really spike until the stadium is complete.
