+xOur batting is still a major concern overall though - luckily our bowling attack is world class. We need a quality all rounder to give us a five prong attack to make it world class.

+xAbsolutely superb day for Australia overall. Would be idea to get another 100 or so runs and get the lead to 400 but Ill take a 350 lead. 359 isn't too bad. England haven't made more than 330 odd in a successful run chase - ever.

I'm looking forward to Boycott and Aggers' commentary on the radio.
Gee, Boycott is a character!
I'm sick to death of ads on FTA TV too.
Unfortunately, ABC radio is filled up on Fri and Sat nights with aerial ping pong - the sport played nowhere else in the world.

+xas i said the other day 174 looked a collapse but was heroic even today when it was easier commentators have some new tech that measures the seam movement and bounce and both were greater than either of the first tests! Saw that measurement from a new device.

Cummins bowls Roy with an outswinger that hits the top of off stump!
England are in trouble at 2-15.
The next ball he nearly dismisses Denly with an outside edge.

Cummins' top speed these days seems to be be mid 140s.
He has a fair bit of control at his reduced speed.
I know a a first grade cricketer who has faced Meredith in grade cricket and in the nets, and Archer in the nets. He said Archer has quite a bit more control than Meredith, but both are lightning fast and far too quick!

Can’t get used to seeing Starc not selected sitting in the stands. He has been considered Australia’s leader of the attack for quite a few years.
Starc has never had all of Pattinson, Cummins and Hazlewood matchfit to compete against for selection in the past.

This is a torrid spell from Cummins and Hazlewood with the new ball.

Poms have done well to reach 2-53.
The Aussie attack is relentless from all four bowlers now Lyon is getting turn.

impressive discipline from both sides as the wicket flattens out a bit
still it will be a 4th day wicket tomorrow so Australia should be favourites and the 2nd new ball is soon
would love to get just 1 more wicket before the 2nd new ball

+x+x+x+xArchinator on fire... give him a knighthood now... Aussies aint used to real pace... even Bumrah was too fast for them at 140... Yeah Im trolling, but India, Pak, SA and now Eng have a faster attack... the WI aint slow either... it's kinda funny tbh,,, Aus is no longer that fast... not the speed that gets you in Leeds its the movement.. that why half his overs he's doing 80mph Lol so Archer said. But after a 4 day turn around, and now going off with cramp, I think Joffra is more than a lil sore in the body right now. He has not had a workload like this all season. And unlike Woakes, is not used to it. But he will. The dietitians and physios will sort him out. Too late for this game, Paddles. He looks knackered! Have to say I was wrong. Archer bowled with venom after a few overs.

+xWould love burns in the side to partner Warner I guess its khawaja to open next test with Harris dropped for Smith? Labu at 3? I would have thought this to be the case too. To quote Ian Chappell, with so many batters on both teams struggling to score in a low scoring series, low averages for some individual batters in a winning team are not the same cause for concern.

Does anyone know if Pattinson is injured? http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?bowling_positionmax1=2;bowling_positionmin1=1;bowling_positionval1=bowling_position;class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=bowling_strike_rate;spanmin1=15+Mar+2010;spanval1=span;team=2;template=results;type=bowlingAccording to the last 10 years out of all the bowlers available, Pattinson is the most effective new ball bowler. Why does he have to wait till the 17th over to get an opportunity. Then gets 5 overs has 0/9, then gets taken off to give Hazlewood another go, who then gets 4 overs which have 0/18 taken off them. Talk about release of pressure. Then Hazlewood replaced by Cummins for 2 overs both maidens. We don't see Pattinson again till 40th over. So our best strike bowler with the new ball gets 5 overs in the first 40? He then gets 5 overs return 0/10 again, then taken off again, Cummins then has 13 runs taken off his next 2 overs, he's replaced by Lyon and then Hazlewood gets 8 overs straight taking a wicket in the sixth of those overs. By the time we see Pattinson again it's the 64th over, so he's bowled 10 overs out of 64. What is going on.? He then gets 3 overs returns 0/4 and off again. He doesn't seem to be getting enough time to be getting his rhythm going. He only got to bowl 5 overs 2/9 in the first innings, bowling with the new ball at 10 overs, so he can't be tired.

I went to bed at close to the end of the second session. Shane warne was happy he bowled a wider line but they were unhappy with the field placements giving away easy singles for the sweep on the boundary Said their should be a silly point and a diagonal fielder 2/3rds of the way to the boundary so they have to try and over hit it. Also make long on straighter so they have to hit the ball harder to get the boundary. Warne said the harder someone has to hit the ball the better it is for you even if you get smashed occasionally economy was excellent and there was a half chance every over from lyon mind you. It was just brilliance from both teams as the life went a touch out of the wicket. Australia still a touch in front!

Gday Mike, jaszyjim - unfortunately I can't comment, as I said I would not talk about captaincy again until the end of the series - perhaps someone else can?

Super start with the wicket. Id be keeping Lyon and Pattinson on for a few overs rather than take the new ball immediately. Lyon bowled tidy and Pattos speeds were up and bowling a good line. The psychology of the new ball waiting too is worth it. Maybe take it 84/85 over
