Firstly, that's bullshit. If you want to make your argument based on aggregate crowds then you are arguing for a single tier system because that is when they were at their best. Anyone who thinks teams like South Melbourne, Sydney Olympic or Brisbane Strikers are going to average more than 5 000 are full of shit. Secondly, I have always argued in favour of an open system but I also acknowledge that the a-league has given us the big teams with broad support that the game needed, now I think we need to reconnect it and open it up. Focus on football and player development.
