No surprise that Adelaide would be half of Brisbane, that's roughly where you'd expect it to end up on the basis of population. Melbourne is probably the poorer performer, failing to get get to 4k per million population.

ABC metro broadcasts are averaging 49k, while on Fox the average is around 31,000 for the year (about 1/3rd of matches not reported)

ABC ratings have been ok, better than Ten, not as good as SBS, but the games lead into the news, so you'd hope for a small bump from that alone.

Would 4:00 on a Sunday been a higher rating slot on abc than 5:00 Saturday? I believe fox numbers for 4pm Sunday are higher than the Saturday arvo game. Will be interesting to see the numbers for the w-league in that timeslot.

Saturday is a bit of a dead zone for TV. same time the A-league was getting 53k on the ABC, the second innings of the WBBL was gettin 70,000 on 7mate. (32k v 24k on fox)

Nobody has been able to prove this So why would the a-league matches get a bump but none of the other sports? They dont If channel drives popularity then all shows on the same channel for each time slot would rate similar. But they dont. The ABC news rates more than 10 times higher than the A League played 5 minutes before it We see the WBBL rate well on FTA because it is instantly recognisable by cricket fans. Attendances are low because it requires more effort / commitment. And Fox ratings are usually low because there is more variety For the A League its still the question that has long faced our code which is how to break into the mainstream Australian sports market. The Socceroos have had some success which is why their ratings against a lowly Asian team was 4 times higher than the A League 2 days later. But for the league itself we still seem to be dealing with the consolidated support we had at the end of the NSL plus the small boom for WC qualification. We also have a few games that excite casual fans but the impact seems to be minimal today We have hopped from channel to channel to channel trying to find this mythical bunch of Aussies who are loyal to the watermark and watch shows indiscriminately in large numbers. But as somebody said a few pages back - people behave like people

Some information on how Foxtel is going. "Among the multitude of businesses that make up News Corp, there were a few stronger performers, but they were not robust enough to offset the trouble spots. And several of these trouble spots were the Australian divisions including print, digital real estate (REA) and Foxtel - which is two-thirds owned by News Corp and one-third owned by Telstra.Indeed, News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson called out Australia in his opening remarks, noting that the company’s overall performance was "affected by pronounced currency headwinds and a particularly sluggish Australian economy and property market".The most troublesome Australian asset is undoubtedly Foxtel. It has been squeezed in a pincer of paying for expensive sports programming -in particular, cricket - and facing a relentless churn of customers away from its flagship subscription service. This put pressure on revenue and costs. Revenue from Foxtel fell by 9 per cent (or 3 per after adjusting for currency effects) and its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) slumped by $US32 million to $US81 million - driven by fewer broadcast subscribers and a hefty 14.4 per cent churn rate.Foxtel is making up some of these losses by adding lower-paying customers to its two newer digital services, Kayo and Foxtel Now - but not fast enough, and in the quarter adjusted EBITDA fell by 28 per cent. Structural declineThe former pay-TV monopoly is in structural decline, having been disrupted by new entrants into the video streaming space like Netflix and Stan, and more recently by Amazon Prime and Apple - all of which place intense pressure on the operating model of the traditional subscription TV product." https://www.theage.com.au/business/companies/australia-is-murdoch-s-big-earnings-headache-20191108-p538tr.html

Time to diversify the revenue stream for football.
All sports are going to suffer in the next round of negotiations.
