+x+x+x+x[quote] It seems pretty safe to assume a huge chunk of football fans have abandoned foxtel now.
Its pretty compelling evidence, isn't it? 9 times more viewers on the ABC is a massive difference. So why dont we get 9x as much for the A League? Don't be coy Its a national team which has more general interest. Im not giving a reason for bad a league ratings - we are in a huge hole in that regards. I think there is a case to be made a lot of general football fans have abandoned foxtel. means they are no longer watching the aleague full stop. Out of sight out of mind. Stop being into anything for a year or two and you will find it doesnt affect your life that much anymore. The WBBL rates well on FTA, but not Foxsports. So no surprise the same happened for the Matildas There is more choice on Fox, but FTA fans are limited to what Live sport they can watch. Interesting how on FTA some people turned off the football after the Matildas but on Fox the trend was reversed I find it hard to believe football fans have abandoned Fox. Foxtel subscription numbers are up, and in addition to the increased numbers, Internet subscriptions make up 24% of the total figure (with half of that being Kayo) Aussie sports fans are lapping up subscription sports in large numbers (be that cable or otherwise). With the "people act like people" way of thinking, why would this trend apply to all sports fans except football fans? I think its a case of people turning away from the A League, not football, and we are left with a slowly depleting base of core support

Serious question.
Does anyone watch the English Premier League and/or the Champions League matches anymore?
I don't know anyone that does since the Saturday night SBS Premier League match stopped and since SBS stopped broadcasting Champions league matches a couple of years ago.
It seems people only watch highlights.

I'm saying football fans who are predominantly into football and do not watch all sports equally are happy with Optus and don't also need kayo/fox. Premier league/Champions league/Internationals are enough football to keep a big majority of football fans happy. Some of these people may have watched some aleague when it was a lead in to the epl but they don't care enough (especially after a couple years disconnect) to seek it out or stick with fox when they have nothing on Optus' offerings. It doesn't seem like a controversial opinion.....

For example, football is the only sport I watch anymore because the world has so much more to offer than sport.
I don't need Kayo (definitely not foxtel) because I don't care about all the other stuff on there.
I watch the A league on my mum's Go account. I am a hardcore fan BUT if I didn't have her account I'd struggle to justify paying for Kayo just for the a-league.
If I wasn't a rusted on who attends games (this is what keeps me invested in a season), I believe that after two years of not having access to the league, I could very easily live without it.
Just like anything in life you go for a year or two without.
Even using sport as an example, I watched every crows game (literally) from 1991 till about 2006. I honestly could not tell you the last crows game I watched. It would probably be about 2 seasons ago and that's because a mate refused to turn it off when i went around there.
I am agreeing with you that we are losing support big time and I am just saying this is obviously playing it's part. Im not suggesting we have secret numbers out there not being counted (even though i do think we would have a higher % of streamers than more established sports - it's a bigger % of a horrible number).

Over the last few years the sporting landscape and how sports are viewed has changed a lot.In the future it will keep changing. Foxtel is a fading business and viewing platform.Just as Netflix had its day it's hard to believe Foxtel in its current form will even exist in ten years. Football as a second tier viewing sport has to adapt and change to thrive in Australia. But i believe it can be done.It still has by far the largest participation rate and a strong male and female base. Football has to ride the technolgical wave and lead the changing landscape rather than follow it.We started this well with e-sports. We currently have steaming platforms through Kayo and Telstra. But who knows what happens when the current Foxsports deal expires. An exclusive streaming app for all Australian football?
Once the owners have full control of the HAL,I think things could turn upwards again. The owners have a lot of money and knowing they can control their own destiny,it wouldnt be hard for some serious money to be thrown at the game.It happened in the US. It wouldnt take much in the way of big name players to generate excitement. Add a second division and who knows what could happen.

I don't know anyone that does since the Saturday night SBS Premier League match stopped and since SBS stopped broadcasting Champions league matches a couple of years ago. It seems people only watch highlights. I watch the mini matches of selected games in both. I don't have anyone interest in full replays. My time is scarce and the mini matches allow me to follow 4 or 5 of my preferred teams in both the EPL and Champions League. I'm thinking I'd ditching Kayo because I'm struggling to justify the cost just for the the A League, and I have to say that the political and fiscal incompetence of the management of the game has worn me into a profoundly disenchanted state. The Western United fiasco has been something of a last straw. The only thing that is holding me to the A League right is now is the young players on show at Melbourne City and Adelaide. But even so is it's worth 25 per month when I get the best football in Australia free from optus? Probably not. You see, I live in the country and can't attend games lovely, so TV is my only access to football.

Similar to me even though i am a liverpool fan i find myself making more effort to watch a league games then the epl and champions league these days.

I watch pretty much zero live terrestrial t.v nowadays.
I watch something on Kayo just about every night, usually it's A League, Australian National team, La Liga, Scottish Premiership, Copa Libertadores MLS (yeah, it's grown on me) or English Championship.
I reckon my $25 per month is worth it. I just wish they'd get the Argentine and Brazilian leagues back on like they did last season or the season before. I now have to find dodgy streams to watch those.

The ratings for the Jordan game are pretty much irrelevant considering the time the game was played.

It's good to see the average on the ABC climb again even if only a little bit.

The Central Coast and Blue Mountains are part of the Sydney ratings just like Geelong and the Mornington Peninsula are part of the Melbourne ratings. https://oztam.com.au/documents/Other/Metropolitan%20Coverage%20Maps%202019.pdf

ok, didn't know that. The map probably helps explain why Wollongong struggle to get a team.

+xok, didn't know that. The map probably helps explain why Wollongong struggle to get a team. The value of a club in the 5cities area to a FTA commercial broadcaster is way above the value of a club in a regional FTA area. The 3 city networks pocket all the advertising revenue from the 5cities stations but only get about 40% of it from the regional stations. 40%+- is what the regional network pay the big 3 city networks for their programs.

+x+xDisappointing number for big blue fourth highest number on foxtel yesterday and beat the cricket is that not good? Thought it would have been highest rating game of the season so far (60k+)+ especially at 6:30 Sunday time slot.
