I haven’t followed the A-League since its inception but I’ve never seen so many young Aussies getting minutes and performing well. The likes of Toure, Silvera, Wilmering, McGree, D’Arrigo, Genreau and Metcalfe all look really really promising and this can only bode well. Not to mention the fact that the U17s will return soon and Powell, JCP and Teague will likely get minutes. Is this the birth of a really good young cohort?

Certainly a good number of young players getting their chances, finally, and doing well.

It’s definitely quite promising and refreshing to see.

I was certainly impressed with Silvera after seeing him play for the first time, great control and 1v1 ability.

I always knew we had talent in Australia that just needed the chance to shine, can’t imagine what’s also out there if more clubs and managers are prepared to be give them a go too.

Been a good week for Aus youth football! We got a way to go but also we got great hope for the future too!

Sam Silvera should be called up for the Jordan squad.

It doesn't matter if he's played less than 10 senior games at club level.

Should probably make this a separate thread for posterity but:

Toure Vs Silvera:
Who is more likely to have a standout season?
(And peering into our crystal balls) - Who is more likely to be important to the socceroos over the long term? (Assuming Toure commits to Australia)

Toure more likely for Liberia

Silvera was been in the WS Wanderers Academy for a while and the FFA squads for a while, so Aust more likely.

The Wanderers Academy certainly has done well.

Expansion of the competition also brings the added benefit of more spots in squads, along with the increased bench sizes in match day squads. It increased the opportunities and will continue next year with Macarthur coming in.

It's very exciting to see a bunch of young players coming through - Metcalfe, Toure, Genreu and now Silvera to name a few. City (despite all their off-field woes) have done tremendously well in establishing an academy that is pumping out talent, same as WSW. It won't be long before the national squad is primarily composed of players from those two youth systems.

I also think this will be the year that Riley Mcgree stamps his authority as the number 8 in the Socceroos midfield, he's quality.

Heart and Mariners regulatory come raiding.

Dunno if it's called raiding, players know they have a chance of being in the shop front if they go to the mariners, silvera would have been riding pine at WS if he'd even made it out of the youth squad.
Scouts are paid to spot talent, thats being undervalued.
Besides you wanna talk raiding, wait till you see what the other clubs do to the mariners at the end of the year, happens every year to the mariner since the 2013/14 championship team.

It’s no different to when everyone was emptying their ball sacks over players Sarkies, Leijer, Burns, Djite, Antonis, Amino et al who were going to go to Europe and become huge stars.

I mean Silvera, just one A League game, ONE GAME... and people are talking about him like’s the second coming.  This is current generation is no different to previous generations, in fact possibly worse, at least 90% of the above names will go on to become major flops.  Rather than looking at the “current crop” we should be trying to indentify which one or two, possibly none, have the potential to play at the high levels of Europe.

People have been talking about Silvera after all of the games he’s played so far both in the league and cup, not just after today.

I'm very happy and excited seeing who scored in A League games. Lots of young names. However, the must not mask the issues we have. Use what we've achieved while cleaning up a lot of the issues still around.

So true. Many of our young players would be a little wick compared to youngsters developed in other countries. Just look at the players that have come out of the Ajax academy

Just eye watering watering what comes out of the football factories of Portugal, Netherlands, France, England and Germany as examples. Fact is players amongst the 24th to 100 best in Portugal would still make up half of the Roos squad. Their technical abilities are amazing.

Big clubs raid minnows' academies the world over.

Pfft. Mariners a big club is utter garbage. They are just doing what they did for years and raiding western sydney clubs. Gypsies tramps and thieves.

Heartle$$ a big club. Garbage as well. Why don't they have a Melbourne first policy instead of raiding since Football Victoria claim to be stronger than NSW?

Too many wanting to be negative for the sake of it sadly.

Too many are nitpicking when something good happens when sometimes it's good to appreciate the result of a player or team.
