Some interesting nominations but very little football experience.
The interesting thing is whether the new Board re elects Nikou as Chair and Reid as Deputy.

Carla seems interesting but yes, there is a lack of footballing experience.

+xCarla seems interesting but yes, there is a lack of footballing experience. That is desirable (actually, essential) in some board members. If you are an an ice cream manufacturer your Board should include people from outside the industry.

If you are an an ice cream manufacturer your Board should include people from outside the industry. Well it depends. Using the ice cream manufacturer, you don’t need someone from the coal industry for their expertise. It would be helpful to go upstream and look at milk producers or downstream at retailers. For football, we need to look at government and football people to a greater extent since they would have experience with funding and grassroots.

For football, we need to look at government and football people to a greater extent since they would have experience with funding and grassroots. It doesn’t “depend”, it’s an absolute must for organisations to do this, it happens in industry all the time. Individual nominations are best considered as a Board composite not as individuals - it’s like picking a team, what skills have you got, what are you missing. If everyone on the Board is a “football person” it would be similar to picking all strikers in a team and no defenders, there has to be a balance. In the ice cream analogy you might pick the individual with coal industry experience over someone with dairy supply chain industry experience because they have relevant skills and experience in the case of the FFA Board does it have enough “football people”?

"McGree received a lighter sentence, FFA sources said, because he had left the hotel room earlier than the other three players, who are alleged to have subsequently kicked the woman out and left her stranded without arranging transport for her to return home." Good to finally get at least some explanation for this.

It's nice to have a wide variety of expertise on a board. But i can tell you this ,if you are investing your own hard earned money in a business ,you want someone at the top who knows the business inside out.
If there is someone like this then there is a greater probability of making good decisons for Football. But even that is no guarantee ,as we saw with the Lowy's.

It's not, although it is courteous, but they need to be ready to deal with the consequences if she wasn't happy with how she was treated.

I agree that diversity makes sense but you need to have the same foundational knowledge. It's like saying we should pick a basketball player onto a football team because they have some degree of skill. Everyone needs to have some football pedigree and not go in cold. Using the ice cream analogy, if a coal person was selected, it would be because of their skills/experience in other aspects and they wouldn't be labelled as a coal person. I think we're on the right page and figure this is semantics anyway.
