Why invest in the aleague, the professional levels are sub par. Can you imagine if the 2 million they paid stadjic had actually been spent on women's football, and it was all their own making

While this isn't made as a serious suggestion, its primarily a thought experiment, it does raise a valid point.
All other things being equal (Yes, I know they are not), then if Australia was to look to make its mark in football, and develop the highest possible standard league, then it should invest in womens football.
The gap between the W league and the best international leagues is far smaller than the gap from the A league. The players coming to play in the W league have a far higher standing in the international game than players coming to play in the A league. The womens national team is much higher rated and much more likely to do damage at a world cup than the mens national team.
The argument that mens football is much more competitive and deeper than womens, while true, doesn't really stand up. It is much easier to keep the womens game at the forefront internationally as it grows around the world, than it is for the mens game in Australia to catch up. If we under invest in the womens game, then in 20 or 30 years, the womens game will find itself in the same position the mens game is. No one in their prime, of repute, comes here to play. The gap between the W league and the best European leagues will be enormous, and the Matildas will struggle to win a game at the world cup.
However, the womens game generates little money. You cannot divert resources from your money maker to a noble but money losing proposition.
The question is, why are there not more football purists, interested in the development of Australian football, and not interested in money per se, clamouring for more love and attention to the W league?

“Rob Peter to pay Paul”. Development the game, work within our means and collectively. This is just another example of self interest over the good of the game.

The W-League has never been given a chance, you’re telling me people wouldn’t want to watch Sam Kerr if she was given as much prime time as the A-League? Hasn't the W-League had more FTA exposure than the A-League? Didn't Sam Kerr just spend 11 seasons playing in Australia?

It is a case of expanding the pie. Europe are getting good attendances for their women’s games but this is an off shoot of popularity in the men’s game. We need to grow our game.

Unfortunately the A League is at a stand off between what will competitively grow our game and what decisions the AFL / NRL would make if we were actually the AFL / NRL The women's game is actually going places but it is moving at too slow of a pace. If we can throw more resources at it while it is at this stage of development then our game might actually accomplish something worthwhile. Otherwise we simply end up with 2 missed opportunities

‘The Matildas are more loved and successful than the Socceroos’ What??!! Yeah nobody gives a shit about the Socceroos - so fuck ‘em! 2015 ACUP final victory in ET over Sth Korea doesn’t mean anything?! she wants to take support away from the guys and give it to the girls? How is EQUAL pay to the Matildas and Socceroos NOT supporting women’s football? It’s a natural progression for top Aussie players to move to higher leagues of Europe btw.

If the FFA is to invest more in Women's football the investment needs to be at the grassroots level to get more players into the game and in developing the WNPLs in each state and territory. That is the only way to keep producing talents for the WNPL and for on-selling to the big leagues in Europe. We don't have enough money to be other than a development league in either women's or men's football.

With the growth of the womens game, we can jump ahead of the trend, we are far far too behind the 8 ball when it comes to the mens game.

Hasn't this chance already come and gone though? Maybe if it was 10 years ago we could have made the W-League the strongest womens league in the world. Now with the rate it's growing in Europe all of the players will be heading there regardless of what we do.

That was a few years ago but the FFA refused to expand the W-league into a full home and away season and additional teams. Plus they did not mandate the state federations to run a least a 2 tier NPLW. The tide has rolled out and is will not come back in hurry with the AwFL and thugby codes going after any potential sporting women.

+xAll sports are using womens sport as growth vehicles, we should be no different. And we've had a head start over the other women's codes, as the Matildas have been doing us proud for decades, the others are carrying on like they have only just invented women's sport.. However, I also saw some of the Victory vs Canberra W league game the other day, and Canberra were indeed bad; Victory weren't much better, missing numerous easy chances. The gap between the W League and the Matildas is still huge.

Down scaling the a-league for the MLS is one of the most stupidest suggestions of ever read.
Also prioritising more on the womens just because of ranking and the chances of winning the World Cup is also absurd, both need equal attention if both want success now and in the long term.
Poor take from Peters.

Shouldn't we just put all our money in AFLW and AFL? we have a great chance at being the worlds best in those sports.
