I'm absolutely blown away anyone watches big bash. It's the most soulless forced crap I've ever seen. I can't stand T20, it's a fad as far as I'm concerned. If you need fireworks to keep people entertained it says a lot about the sport.

Article on AL in the Guardian talks about relative viewing audiences for the big bash and AL on the weekend.
Made for depressing reading

So cricket is still more popular than football in Australia?
Well I never... ;)

I think most people have started to realise this as well, attendances have decreased, tv ratings lowered, the general word and talk of the competition seems at an all time low.

The novelty factor was the only factor in attracting spectators to watch, now they tried to make full length longer seasons, as if its a people actually follow these teams each week, which very minimal people do.

This article explains where we are at with crowd capacities in each capital city.  Looks like we are getting very close to 100% across the board.
https://www.austadiums.com/news/943/optus-stadium-sets-biggest-australian-sports-crowd-since-covid

Optus Stadium sets biggest Australian sports crowd since Covid

Austadiums   |  Friday 16th April 2021            Optus Stadium prior to the round 5 AFL clash. Photo: @OptusStadiumWith Covid restrictions easing to allow 100% capacity, 54,159 fans attended Friday’s AFL match between the West Coast Eagles and Collingwood at Optus Stadium, setting a new record. The attendance figure is not only the largest sports crowd in Australia since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, but also the largest in the southern hemisphere.
It’s also the largest AFL crowd recorded since the 2019 Grand Final at the MCG.Only two T20 International matches in India have recorded larger attendances in the world, with crowds of 67,200 and 66,352 reported at Narendra Modi Stadium last month – the three remaining matches in the series were played behind closed doors due to a spike in cases.
Restrictions were eased in Western Australia on Monday to allow its stadiums to be filled to full capacity, including up to 60,000 at Optus Stadium. The Eagles defeated the Magpies 103-76 in tonight’s round 5 clash. Also on Friday night in Perth, 11,485 spectators attended RAC Arena for the NBL match between the Perth Wildcats and Illawarra Hawks - the highest crowd of the NBL21 season to-date.
The state joins Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT in allowing 100% crowds at stadiums.
Current restrictions mean Stadium Australia in Sydney can host the biggest crowd of any venue at the moment (83,500).Victoria is currently allowing 75%, meaning up to 75,000 fans can fill the MCG, however the largest crowd that has attended a game in Melbourne has been 51,723 for Carlton v Collingwood on March 25.VIEW BIGGEST CROWDS SINCE COVID >
The AFL is running a ticketing trial this weekend at two games in Melbourne whereby all ticket holders will be required to submit their contact details when pre-purchasing tickets. If successful, the Victorian Government is expected to permit 100% capacity from round 6, meaning 90,000+ will be able to attend the ANZAC Day blockbuster at the MCG.

Timely that we dig this thread up again.
Melbourne likely to extend current lock down, will impact on the three Melbourne teams, although fortunately they are all pretty much dead rubbers, so doesn't really matter where they get played.

*cough*
South Melbourne Lakers anyone? :)

For the record, both Roar & Victory have actual reasons for their nicknames.
Weak reasons maybe, but they're not completely "plucked out of the air" nicknames.

Brisbane: They were originally Brisbane Lions / Queensland Lions in the NSL & Queensland state league. Sold their name to the AFL team when they were rebranded from the old Brisbane Bears. (IIRC) At the start of the A-League they had a public vote for a Lion-related name for their new A-League side. I thought "Pride" was a better name (it worked on two levels), but "Roar" was the selected name.

Victory: Its a combination of a generic "success" type nickname (like Glory) and the name of the state they are from: Victoria.

The Melbourne derby can go ahead because it is all Melbourne. Just no fans which means no real change

The WU and CCM game should be allowed to go ahead because NSW did not close their border to Victoria and no word of players being caught up in venues / isolation

The postponed game has no impact on the table given MC have finished first and there is no relegation. To avoid holding up the finals this could simply be declared a draw and shared points

It is likely Melbourne will still be under restrictions when the finals are expected to start in the second week of June (given they are scheduled to end in the current format by 11 June but that is just an easing back of restrictions). City should relocate ASAP so they dont get caught up in a lockdown. This is far from over

Yeah they are forced to play in a competition without any promotion or relegation for perpetuity - that's punishment enough :) hahahahahahahahahahah

To be honest, since the pandemic started I have stopped betting and I have begun to gamble instead. However, I have noticed that there is a lack of good sites to gamble and it took me some time till I have found this one https://wolfwinnercasino.com/ which besides an app has also a good mobile-optimized site which for me it is very important. Plus, it has a lot of payment options and I have never had problems with withdrawal.

During the pandemic, many sports were affected, some of them went online, just like the rest of us. Then we all had to be more careful and play at home at https://vegas7.casino it's always warm and lots of games
