+x+x+x+x+xIt no matter from our side of the borders IF it could or couldn't happen, fact is it hasn't to date as such, that is only 1 close Melb person I know pov....and of Andrews. He is living it as well as a couple of others I know who have similar pov's. No doubt its hard, a first for all of us and our governing bodies. Still is what occurred stupid is stupid to me, sheer negligence. like the ruby princess? Andrews gave Victoria the harshest lock down and was criticised. He relaxed the rules and gets criticised. Also the media everywhere making the suburbs pariahs are working class. Where was the same when it was Toorak and Brighton?? No normal person in our State I'm sure were happy what occured with the Ruby scenario, absolutley wrong by our authorities - hope they pay for their jobs for its nothing compared to what families went through and lost lives, sickenning. At least since then we seem to be in better control barring the stupid individual selfish mugs. Your Commandant down there was more so criticised on minor things he could have made easier for some, like allowing golf go ahead as it did every other State in pairs only etc, these kind of things frustrate sheeple more when their liberties have already been resticted rightly so where/what is needed. Here's another melb contact view this morning : So. Wasn’t yesterday a big day in football. 1500 dollars to get tested. WTF I know I sound like a stuck record here but there are serious issues in the Vic government. This isn’t funny. I have seen with my own eyes the sort of failures around quarantine. Absolutely the individuals involved are responsible and while I am skeptical of all rumours being accurate, it’s 100% believable that a lack of education, protection, understanding, appreciation are considerations in this failure. That from that point, the rate of spread indicate a further breakdown in the core actions of hygiene and distancing. These are attitudes. Attitudes are influenced by what people feel. The Victorian administration thought fining people for fishing or going for a driving lesson was the right attitude to present, but yet holes so large at the coal face a Mack titan could drive through. Let’s do the easy stuff. Let’s talk a great game but the meat, the substance it’s awol. The entire function and purpose of quarantine broken because of a failure of leadership. Dan Andrews has systematically displayed an attitude of I know better. We are better. Doesn’t need security advice on China, he has better intel. He is smarter, quicker, faster than a speeding built. Doesnt need National guard or will go with a yes no yes no yes no. When the national interests are at stake, when you call a state of emergency, in what world do you not ensure the integrity of the process you put in place. This is above all a failure of leadership at multiple stages. Like his original stance on BLM protests, his attack on families doing the wrong thing, just doesn’t help. Is it ok to say this was a failure of contract by these security companies? Well that’s certainly happened but when you call a state of emergency and you go as hard as what he did because he knew better, it’s inexcusable there wasn’t oversight of the situation by the body controlling the state of emergency. In a state where 26 charges, not a single charge upheld under high court challenge. In a state that attacked the countries federal stance on China In a state used as a illegal toxic waste disposal depot without anyone knowing. A state that ignored national security advice to enter into an agreement with China A state level corruption scandal And now the country’s biggest community transmission case because of a system failure where it matters most. Containment. It’s ruby princess all over. There but by the grace of god do I walk. A big part of these failures is about being human. There is a degree of inevitability in this and it will not be the last time. Your contact has quite an imagination. Was going to ask if his contact is Tim Smith. National Guard what? -PB

+xThe comments under that are something else. Those people are nuts. Imagine a society so broken and polarised that even wearing a mask during a pandemic is considered a divisive political statement. Crazy times. I don't know what the way back from this could be.

Between Advanced Dungeons and Dragons being pulled, right-wing coronavirus anti-vaxxer conspiracy nuts doing their thing and China gearing up for total global subservience i'm just about done with this world. Yup, Russia and co must just sit back and laugh at how easy it was to completely fracture America basically beyond repair. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they legite have a civil war again sometime in the next few decades, the spirit of the south lives on. -PB

hows that Vic/Melb situation going....all under control lol..... Here's another pov from another contact, another main point is the community, pretty spot on, : I won’t be making excuses for the Victorian Premier. He lost me years ago with his continued support of duck hunting as a recreation (which continued during COVID lockdown restrictions). Decisions under his directive have been both horrendous and repugnant. With regards to his handling of the pandemic, it is easy to look back at his decisions and determine a turning point where if he had made a different choice it would have led to better outcome. All our state leaders have had to make rapid, continuous and hugely impactful decisions after decisions since this whole pandemic began 4 months ago. Yes, I know it’s their job and it’s their responsibility. They carry the weight of each decision at a personal, state and national level. If it was me in the Premier's position I'd be mentally, if not physically spend by now, yet not to express it. Society sometimes forget these people are just flawed humans after all. Ones also that have committed their lives and the likelihood to serve others. When it comes to COVID, responsibility is ultimately shared with the community. The Government must provide the directive and support systems, but it takes the cooperation at a community level to make any directive at all effective in its intent. This doesn’t appear to be happening by all reports.

I get that interstate banter is a thing, and I know what to expect from the Daily Telegraph, but a headline like that in a situation like this is just fucked.

Pala, wouldn't worry about paper headlines, your own are just as low belters towards Sydney for as long as papers have been printed let alone the interweb today. What goes around comes around, I'm sure us here in Sydney will suffer outbreaks soon enough - karma is a wonderful thing.

I'm one of the unfortunate Melbournians now locked down again. I really supported Dan Andrews before Covid and cheered him on with his hardline stance on covid - dragging the country towards an appropriate response that bought the country together and led to one of the best outcomes achieved in the world. Listening to a recording of this mornings press conference with him and the Police Minister and Police Commissioner my blood boils. All these empty platitudes about how Victorians have to act better, how the police will be everywhere to crackdown hard on any rule breakers. The complete lack of accountability on the hotel quarantine is a joke. Dont get me started on the protests - BLM and even a CFMEU protest this week - he tells us that was up to the discretion of police. And the mealy mouthed empty platitudes of him and his useless Health and Police ministers every press conference. He can get stuffed. If I get fined, I'll be appealing. And I have no doubt that a lot of Victorians will fight the fines all the way to the courts just to challenge the blatant double standards of this "police discretion".
It maybe false consensus effect, but in my inner north YUPPIE bubble, most of my friends seem to have turned very hostile towards this Premier as well. Putting it in football terms, this guy has completely lost the locker room. And the economic pain hasnt really even staarted yet. A 2nd lockdown destroys consumer and business confidence that now lack the certainty to spend. Yes the Liberal state opposition are dodgy AF but I just cant see Andrews rebuilding the trust needed to get us out of the economic hole that Victoria will now be in.

+xYeah it's a bit of a gear grinder. The same thing could and probably will happen in NSW. No point being smug about it. But the rest of the country is. Mocking Victorians and the premier. The right wanted the state to open and he stood firm and was called out for it. When he relaxed the rules people thought they can go about the same way and it got worse and th3 right criticise him for relaxing the rules. Im sick of the sniping . Instead of helping they want to play partisan politics

He’s somehow got out of the branch stacking saga relatively unscathed and really the whole Hotels quarantine situation has been an absolute farce that again the general public has taken the hit for. Not a lot of ownership has been taken on the hotel saga.

I blame the young'uns. The 3 people in Canberra confirmed positive today are all 20-somethings, who returned from Melbourne hotspots last Thursday, and then decided to just go willynilly to the markets and the mall on the weekend.
Thanks to them they've opened a whole can of worms for me, which is another long story.

Andrews needs to resign. Every State and Territory accepted the Federal Governments offer of military assistance to enforce quarantine. Every State and Territory that is except Victoria, whose leader preferred to help out his union buddies rather than keeping Victorians safe. Now rather than having quarantine protocols being enforced you have untrained security guards having sex with Covid patients. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so shocking and appalling.
This epic bungling will lead to deaths and likely lead to a resurgence of Covid in other states. It undoes all the hard work that millions of Australians have subscribed to get this virus under control and save lives. Make no mistake, Daniel Andrews has blood on his hands and should resign immediately.

You and your ilk want andrews gone because he showed up the right . A lot of the right called him out when he locked down victoria the first time. You wanted it opened. But he relented. And when he eased the restrictions people acted like nothing will happen. Ffs rusty just stop with your snipping

+xYes, it’s Andrews fault that the security guards and those under quarantine were horny. No its his fault that he appointed unprofessional, untrained security guards who were horny and incapable of doing the job, rather than trained professional military that was offered and every other State and Territory undertook. He chose to look after his mates in the unions rather than keep Victorians safe and in doing has undone the progress we made to contain and control Covid. When you have massive cluster fuck like this happen and the principal cause can be traced to bad decision making then of course those who are responsible for those bad decisions need to be held to account and resign. If Andrews were a Liberal you would be baying for blood and demand he go on trial for war crimes.

Fact is no matter right/middle/left/up/down the country needed/s to "move" ahead after all the good work done by ALL incl us citizens. Any good Andrews had done is past/blown away/forgotten due to the dominos that have fallen the last number of weeks. Relaxing the restrictions didn't mean life is back to normal, obviously not in your case, the protests proved what was to come. Its your own general citizens you should be going after and your Gov's handling/delgating who managed the seco approval to save costs, its obvious that company didn't get a strict brief in behaviour/rules/regs etcetc And the mixed msgs for quite sometime. Stop the excuse's - its a cluster fuck, as for the sniping/banter etc, if the shoe was on the other foot we all know what would be posted in vengence towards other States especially NSW. Sorry whats occuring down there, really am for it could effect us and other areas for its obvious some of our fellow citizens just don't GAF and avoid tests/quaranteen - absolutely pathetic no matter what side of the fence your on.
