So we finally get to 12 teams and then before a ball is kicked we could be back to 11.
I think Newcastle are too good to actually fold, surely an investor will come along and pick them up for pea nuts.

There will be a buyer out there who will pick this up cheap, provided they can minimise the operational costs. I think it will be a lean operation till the economy resumes some momentum, it will not be the only club in this position. Retaining staff and players on reduced salary will be a challenge for a handful of AL clubs.

I keep saying this league is going down the toilet - the FFA in-action will be the death of the AL - scrap the Cap/Floor - bring in mandatory Transfer fee prices no less then 1m for any export - a line the states to bring in P/R OR accept the AL is dead

Some of these teams have been on life support for years. I do want the Jets and Mariners to survive but I have my doubts.

this is terrible - jets are one of the most genuine clubs in the aleague - regional club, small home ground, genuine identity, real history. fingers crossed a white knight can be found.

Surely Lawrie has to go.
New owners need to come in and completely clean the club from top to bottom.

We’ll only be left with bloody Sydney and Melbourne clubs if this keeps up. Six team from Sydney and six from Melbourne ... good grief!

Very troubling.
It would be heartbreaking to see the Jets fall victim to our broken system.
Systemic change is desperately needed.

Just had a look at how many players Avid sports group have at the Jets more than half the team plus both the coach and assistant coach

+xF.F.A MUST NOT let theJets die It is is NOT , I repeat NOT ACCEPTABLE to allow thisto happen ! ! FFA is reportedly unlikely to be in a financial position to bail Newcastle out without new owner interest on the immediate horizon, which places Newcastle in an increasingly dire situation moving forward.

+xwell I am sorrybut That is jus NOT GOOD ENOUGH They MUST GET THE MONEY That is is whythey get payed big salery !! It depends how much debt Jets have run up. With the average A League club losing $2-$3m its not impossible Jets are $10m+ in debt and running at a $3m loss for next season .... the FFA cannot assume that level of debt.

I imagine there will be a white knight at some point. Anybody who's been to Newcastle can tell you that the Jets are rooted in their community probably more than any other A-League team. Football in the Hunter goes back 130 years and it's never had the stigma it's had in other parts of the country. Pretty much everyone in the area is a fan of both the Knights and the Jets, and when the team is doing well they can pack out their ground (see 07-08, 17-18 – shame it's only once every ten years).

Looks like the Jets are finished, no coaches, no owners and sky high debts Shame really but this is what clubs should expect under a franchise system. Glory and CCM probably be the next , we will end up with eight teams based in 4 cities . Shambles Tbh

Glory and CCM probably be the next , we will end up with eight teams based in 4 cities . Shambles Tbh Well, given the current economic conditions, which are likely to worsen over next 6 to 9 months, Jets and Mariners on their knees, Glory not far behind, throw in Covid uncertainty with a team based in NZ, and it's not entirely out of the question that we enter the new season with only 8 clubs...but...stripping it back might actually give us a chance to survive these next two years and then think about growth thereafter.

https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/ffa-chief-johnson-confident-newcastle-jets-buyer-will-be-foundCarl Robinson has gone but the critical business of saving the Newcastle Jets goes on, with FFA chief executive James Johnson “confident” the embattled club can be saved from going under. FFA are in the process of performing due diligence investigations on four live bidders interested in acquiring the Jets from absentee Chinese owner Martin Lee, who ceased funding the club almost a year ago.
