Players and coaches from the three A-League teams due to play in the AFC Champions League next month have expressed serious concerns about potential health and safety risks they will be exposed to in Qatar.Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory are slated to resume their group stage fixtures from mid-November in a hub format in Doha, but the clubs have serious reservations on a number of levels about their involvement, which could also throw preparations for the new A-League season into chaos.

Should any of the teams progress past the round of 16 they will be facing the prospect of spending Christmas in self-isolation, which would further complicate planning for the new A-League season commencing on December 27.All three clubs will have to serve their quarantine periods in Sydney but, according to club sources, have been told by the NSW government they will need to hire out an entire hotel as well as pay for security and police to escort them to training facilities each day – all up at a cost of nearly $500,000.

They need to investigate whether it can be done without a major financial penalty.

I totally understand not wanting to go, frankly the tournament should have been cancelled ages ago but gee with our AFC ranking we will be playing AFC Cup next year if all three clubs forfeit their games.

Just to bring it up, wonder how all the Euro Clubs feel about playing the CL and Europa leagues to date in some countries that have had higher infections than Qatar.
Wonder what the views were of the China/Korea/Japan Associations ? mentioned but no juice.

Dunno about Chinese, Japanese and Korean clubs but Johor have the same grievances as our clubs do.
