Strain is out injured for 3 months. There is no decision to be made here. Of the 3 RB options we have, 2 are fit and available - Atkinson and Miller.

Did Arnie even watch Thomas Deng at J league? He can play RB. If you follow J league the league standard is higher than SPL. Even Celtic played friendly in Japan they were outplayed & outclassed by Japanese clubs. You put Miller there as RB against good opposition he would get destroyed. Too big, slow & clumsy, cant dribble also a high risk of getting red card. He can play in SPL cuz the standard is low. And Atkinson, defensively thought he was poor and his form (b4 injured) for Heart was like hot and cold with no consistency. I watched Deng at Alberex Nigata. Mate he was smooth , good first touch/pass & move beautiful football. I almost forgot he was Australian.

+x+x+x+x+xConcerning we're starting to focus on too many players who can't play a ball or are stumbling all the time. Irvine, Leckie, Miller, Behich and to an extent Baccus compared to players like Luongo, Genreau, O'Neill, Strain, Bos. I just hope we can get players together who can use it on the ground and don't trip themselves up all the time. Totally agree This is the line-up I feel safest from cheap mistake and silly turnovers
Duke Goodwin(Arzani) Luongo Metcalfe (Mabil) Irvine O'Neil Bos Burgess Souttar Deng Ryan
Need Goodwin for set piece Absolutely delusional if you think Arzani is getting picked for Australia. Also Metcalfe has been awful as a winger for Australia, he's much better in midfield. Deng is garbage, always fails with the Socceroos, got hooked and never came back on at the world cup. Luongo isn't a creative attacking forward. How did you come up with this? Safe from cheap mistakes? Have you watched Arzani? If Fornaroli gets picked for Roos, Arzani has a chance cos he is providing some good service for Fornaroli to score I'd rather Arzani than Leckie. Arzani can at least create something. The world cup heroics from Leckie and Behich shouldn't warrant automatic Asian Cup selection anymore. I find it interesting that Iredale isn't even mentioned in media or social media circles despite being in the same league as Irvine and Metcalfe and higher than League 1. We get these hype reports of blokes who get invited for a German trial or are in the 4th tier but someone in the second division is just unknown. Interesting! Don't forget in Asian cup 2015 Massimo Luongo was in League 1 and became MVP for the tournament. If you pick the right one could find a gem there.

+xOniell makes the start xi again. So glad to see him work through a tough period adjusting for europe will watch if he has improved his movement off the ball and able to find pockets of space Huge achievement imo... many players would of dropped their head looking for a way back to the A-league in Jan. Hope he keeps progressing.

Hibs got caned last night essentially because they didnt park the bus. Montgomery has started to change the way hibs play. Their ball circulation is much faster than last year
despite having less possession per match, they average 30 more passes than they did last season, only fifty less than ccm did with monty in charge.
hearts have also evolved to a more progressive style and celtic and rangers have always been so.
still a dour league, but if you play for those four clubs you are in a similar quality league to oz, playing a similar style for a longer season with access to europe. I now think it is out of date to worry about players going theee as long it is to those clubs. Only issue is how rough the defense is, which can cause injuries. But that is an issue in australia

+x+xAtkinson returning and tillio bench is great news. Wonder who wins out of atkinson and miller for a roos spot i tend to think of atkinson as the more technical option but he had that heavy touch vs france how do others see the three way battle for rb? It wasn't that long ago Atkinson was bossing players off the ball and running around defenders at the Olympics. This was against apparent good opponents. I think Atkinson is a shoe in as he's been on the scene longer. I wouldn't mind testing an adaptable system of a back 3 with Atkinson and Bos as wingbacks but this will force us to sacrifice talent elsewhere. Back 4 then Bos at LW Atkinson Souttar Burgess Rowles Bos When needed shift to back 3 with Atkinson and Bos as wingbacks and skilful wingers go more central Souttar Burgess Rowles Atkinson Bos O'Neill Luongo Metcalfe McGree Boyle We may as well try to put some of our better finishers up top and play the ball on the floor more. St Pauli employ something similar only using height in their massive back 3 and Irvine. The rest are nimble with a killer blow. Something I wouldn't mind trying as soon as we secure a spot in the next round. Irvine and Goodwin fit well too. Atkinson was hooked at HT with a 33% passing accuracy - 6/18 completed passes. I reckon Miller is number 1 RB with Strain out. Rather Bos plays LB - was his team's best player last game at LB & it was where he played his best football at City.

Twitter chatter that Bochum and Kaiserslautern have an interest in Hrustic. The former could use a creative boost while the latter would surely ensure starts.

He is our best option at 10 if volpato "focuses on club football" forever If we are playing top teams, mcgree is better - defends better and good in transition. But we need hrustic to unlock a set defence

But we need hrustic to unlock a set defence I think he can on angles. He's not a 6. He gets way too isolated and exposed. His strength is rolling the ball nicely and a good diagonal ball. Catch up time after not peaking after a strong and prevelant qualifying campaign.

Fc vols formation is amazing. 2 cbs in midfield and a midfielder at right wing
park the bus!
garang should work on his defence so he is trusted with situations like this

Around 700 passes to 59, 27 shots to 2 but score is 1-1
reminds me of some of the socceroos more painful nights in east asia.
for all the good p and r will bring, it will bring about horrid games like this

And just as a type feyenoord score
i dont recall seeing a first division side in europe as out of their depth as poor volendorm. Even when garang plays it is really hard to watch. The mids and back four cant string two passes together so the front three barely touch the ball

iredale as well. like this move. if league one is good enough to cap yengi amongst other player over the years then with these 2 starting every week now they should defs be in contention, iredale especially with behich's age

Oh wow, now that’s a throwback! I remember 6-7 years ago we were all desperate for him to choose Australia over Wales.

+xOh wow, now that’s a throwback! I remember 6-7 years ago we were all desperate for him to choose Australia over Wales. Makes sense though. While the Asian Cup falls on FIFA window the AFC U23 Asian Cup does not. That tournament will be used as a warm up event for the Olympics. If Arnie can do some horse trading to leave some younger players at their clubs during the busy January period then he may be able to get them released for that tournament even though it is not a FIFA window.

Well that's interesting they're being mentioned. Their efforts should be respected. Iredale seems a handy type. Versatility gets you that bit more ahead.
I think Risdon is a handy type. That experience in the squad with Atkinson or Miller could be useful. Degenek has shot himself in the door. Experienced and a handy RB utility nowadays but just not playing.

looks like iredale and gethin play for the 2nd best team in league 1. Gethin is mostly a rb in a back 3 and iredale is mostly a left winger
wonder if Arnold chooses an extended squad to choose all these fringe players
Alex Grant is also dominant in the 2nd best team in south korea - a pretty high standard!
CB is a pretty loaded position mind you
Jacob Farrell really impresses me, and would be super useful against Japan, South Korea or Saudi arabia with Bos playing wing in front of him. That would be a defensively strong left flank!

Iredale returns to starting 11. App has him on right but it may be two up top. He can dribble and get around a man and I think he may be used to jostle and make space for the fast fullback.

Westerlo with a win. Bos with a lot of experience around him. Bolat in goal was at Liege when Hannover were in Europa League. Neustädter and Chadli as link ups in play.
