Bring it on!!! This is what we've been missing for the last year!! A couple of days ago it was reported that Hrustic & Taggart will be in the next squad against Lebanon. 

2 games in Australia so one or two more locals would be good. Taggart in on merit. We know where Yengi stands with Portsmouth and we want to keep building with him. 23 instead of 26 so Iredale and maybe Yengi out too. 

We badly missed a player like Hrustic in the Asian Cup, I hope Arnie looks at Nisbet and maybe Arzani as well so at least we can be flexible in games against deep block defences.

Hrustic has been decent in the past but his last few Socceroos matches he went AWOL. I'd want to see some consistent good form at club level before he was brought back. Players like Nisbet and Nieuwenhof are the future plus the likes of Robertson, Teague, Yazbek (maybe).

You mean at the WC when he was picked with an injury? So do you want to see consistent form at club level before Souttar gets picked again, because you'll be waiting a while? He just went through the worst club transfer I've seen for a Socceroo at Hellas Verona & just picked up a MOM in his 3rd game for Heracles. We needed him at the Asian Cup after the retirements of Mooy, Rogic & Luongo. There's been talk that he's already in the squad to play Lebanon. 

I wanted us to pick Hrustic at the AC. After Luongo retired we lacked creative midfielders. It would have been undeserved on club form but I think would have offered us a different bench option.

It's good that he's getting games again. With Robertson injured it's the same issue with creativity so he should come in vs Lebanon.

I want to see Nieuwenhof in also, and no excuses with O'Neill's suspension not to have him. 

He was awful b4 the injury that's why he has been sitting on the bench in most clubs he played.

Is he gonna think 2 secs too slow and turned the ball over again?  I can make a highlight of his silly mistakes for games he played for the Socceroos. At least Irvine can press and win the ball back something Hrustic will never do.

And NO!  we do not need him in the Asian Cup.   He is a liability.  I'd rather have A league players like Nisbet or Arzani.  I got scared of his turnovers 

For me at the Asian Cup, and also for future squads, it's about finding a balance of players. We need different bench options for different game situations. 

At the Asian Cup I would have been okay not selecting Hrustic if we had Luongo and Robertson. But we had neither and it hurt. 

Instead we had Irvine, Baccus (okay with these two) and Yazbek who didn't even get game time. Theres a sameness there. It would have been a gamble but Hrustic offers some creativity in the final third. 

Hopefully in future squads we see Robertson. I hope Hrustic finds form and we see him in. Or better still I hope Volpato makes up his mind. I may have missed some options. I think they give us some offensive options from midfield. 

I feel similar about G. Kuol and Irankunda as forward options who can create from the bench, but we haven't selected at senior national team level. 

Completely agree with this. We desperately need creative ball players in midfield - Hrustic, Robertson, Volpato & McGree. We've already got an abundance of box to box, bust their guts ball winners in midfield - Irvine, Baccus, O'Neill - however ball control/ passing let's them down occasionally, creating turnovers. We need players like Irvine (I reckon his value to the team is underrated) but we also need those creative players, especially as we progress through qualifying against the teams that park the bus from kick off. 

You must have watched one game where he didn't play his best & have blacklisted him ever since. At one point he was our best player for the Socceroos - injuries and that shocking transfer halted any momentum. You must've forgotten about him scoring the winner against UAE to get us through to the playoff with Peru? 

Or when he came on and scored the winning penalty in a uefa cup final. How many of our current roos have anything close to that kind of pedigree?!

I'd like to see McGree and Hrustic on sides then either can drift central with a blank space on the 10. 3 centre mid set up of Nieuwenhof, Nisbet and O'Neill when all available. 
     
That was we're not pinning one player as a 10. Hrustic being higher up allows goal danger and not being rushed from all sides as deepest in midfield. This position allows him to have fewer pathways which will make him more decisive. 

I wouldn't mind trying Baccus at right back just for now until Strain returns. Fast, fit and can help in midfield and add some variety

We've got that many decent options now that players like Baccus and Irvine need to be on notice. Starting spots shouldn't be guaranteed.

Arnold loves the centre midfielder and he picked Stensness for Argentina in China. I fear he's a favourite despite being really inept compared to our other options.

It's tricky not to rock the boat and Arnold won't deviate too much from his typical picks. At least lots of different players have gotten exposure and a lot of it on merit. 

Good team at like the idea of no 10 so that mcgree and hrustic can cut inside although I'd swap there sides.. out of the 2, mcgree is a better dribbler but hrustic has the better long shot so you'd want him cutting inside onto his preferred left foot, whilst mcgree would still be dangerous from a creative standpoint on the left wing. Bit early for niewenhoff and Nisbet I think, and we have better options in bacchus, metcalfe , Robertson or volpato if he picks us. 

You're also going to get players with poor club form that turn it up a notch for the national team 

I would prefer Nieuwenhof show his worth for the u23 side this year first.

Agreed - Arnie has said that it's a priority for us to qualify for the Olympics, so he's going to be needed. His time will come - he's currently getting more minutes than Baccus & Hearts are coming 3rd. Just picked up a MOM against Celtic as well. After a slow start, he's really kicked on - his Manager must love him as he plays 90 mins nearly every game. 

Nieuwenhof is a very good player, saw his potential close up at SFC, got an injury & Corica let him go & he did well at Wanderers.
Slowly got going at Hearts & will continue to progress. Either Olyroos or Socceroos get him in.

1 game??   Starting from when he came on as a super sub v Chinese Taipei in world cup qualification in 2019.  I have seen every single Socceroos games  all the way back to Holger Osieck as a coach so don't tell me I have only watched 1 game.  Ajdin Hrustic n Irvine probably set a world record with turnovers for the national team. He did so often that I lost count and can put together for a YouTube turnovers highlight.

Calm down mate. So if you've watched every Socceroos game then you would've seen him play well in the majority of those games? The problem we've got is that we're not Argentina or England and have 10 viable options for every position on the field. Hrustic just happens to be one of our best options in the attacking 3rd of the field - he's no Messi, but he's goes ok. Why don't you wait to see how he goes over the next 6 months, after he's had big minutes at club level. 

Hopefully he will prove me wrong if he gets a call up by Arnie. I don't think he deserve it tho.
