+x+x+x+xWSW V Newcastle - 10k NBL Phoenix vs Wildcats - 10k AFLW St Kilda vs WB - 40k If you haven’t got the Kayo ratings you haven’t got the ratings.
But you can keep pushing this narrow but it’s right up there with Trumps “KO-VID is a hoax” commentary 😂 I'm not pushing anything.. just highlighting that the NBL is closing the gap (on par in Friday nights case) in satellite ratings with the A-League... which would have been unheard of just a few years ago You don’t know anything if you don’t know the Kayo numbers. The preferred viewing platform for football supporters is Kayo not Fox Sports so without those numbers you can’t draw any conclusions .... unless you are pushing something of course. What am I pushing exactly? I hope the A-League Kayo ratings are big...all we can currently go off is O'Rourke's 15k average a game comment last season.

If AL was such a ratings winner on Kayo, why would Fox be offering it for free?

+xYep I know, but looks like they will get a $20 million a year deal with Stan soon. Thats nice. With as many as 5 bidders chasing the AL, we should be looking to double that amount. The minimum benchmark would be to top the $100 over 3 years Super Rugby got.

I think that's right, that we should have the expectation of matching whatever Super Rugby got.

+xA-League: Adelaide vs Perth 23k Fox NBL: 23k Fox AFLW: 32k Fox 23k is pretty good compared to recent history. The NBL getting 23k is massive for them, close to a record. The AFLW is declining compared to first couple of weeks of ratings.

Fox Sports have said they will allow some content from “tier two sports” to be broadcast for free. Not all of it, maybe a game per week ... why would they do that? Read the articles on the topic ...

We don't have much info to go on, but I think it's fair to say that only "2nd tier" sports are being given away for free. Is it possible to jump from 2nd tier to 1st tier if it's free?

WSW v Victory didn't make the top 20 of the fox ratings, which cut out at 23k (the Adventures of Paddington). Once again, you'd expect the two biggest clubs in the land to be able to reach 23k.

Just checking the Fox ratings for yesterday, no A-League game cracked the top 20, cutting out at 24k with NCIS and Blue Bloods. No surprise that no one wants to watch the Victory at the moment. The thing about yesterday is that no other sport was on, that I can see, except three AFL womens games made the top 20, not with particularly high ratings mind you. Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne came 6th with 41,000. Even the Giants made it to 10th with 30k. But no A-League.

And still people think that playing in the clean air of summer will lead to broadcast gold. SFC/BRI was 20k on Fox, and for what its worth, the a-league games all trend above AFLW games and generally at No.1, so I guess our smaller audiences are far more engaged than AFLW or Super Rugby audiences. Either that or TV ratings just aren't an accurate indication of how many or how people watch TV anymore.

At what point do ratings on Foxtel for sports, outside the major promoted sports ,become irrelevant? When Foxtel have openly stated they are not interested in Football,Rugby and ‘minor’ sports, who are the football fans that still have Foxtel? Those that have strong connections with AFL ,NRL and Cricket no doubt. I am sure most ,except those with the full Foxtel package have moved elsewhere. What are the Rugby ratings now there is no Rugby on Foxtel?

Once something ends up on a streaming service, the word "ratings" is never uttered again (and when that time comes for the A-League, perhaps we can all breathe a sigh of relief). With Fox, it's a classic chicken and egg case. They're not supporting it, so no surprise there are no ratings, but equally, ratings are so poor, you'd have to question why they would want to promote the A-L to the upper echelon of their sports offering.

Neither A-League game made it in Foxtel's top 20 for yesterday, cut out at 28k. Top 5 completely dominated by the NRL, Raiders v Tigers got 259k. Two AFL womens games made the top 20, best was in 10th spot with 43k (Brisbane v Collingwood)
NRL on Foxtel STV boxes rated 2.022m for R1, up 16.27% on R1, 2020 and the highest rating R1 on Fox since 2018.
R1 of the 2021 NRL season was watched by 3.844m viewers on 9 and Foxtels traditional networks. (a further 152,000 watched Thursday night footy on Fox Go/NOW/Kayo). This figure is up 4.7% on R1 2020, due to a big increase in Foxtel ratings.(+16%).
As of next weekend, all four national football comps are up and running.

From Inside Sport article: Last Saturday’s TV ratings results saw 89,000 fans tuning in across two A-League games. The NSW derby between Sydney FC and Newcastle drew 54,000 on the ABC with another 13,000 watching on Fox Sports, while traditional rivals Melbourne Victory v Adelaide attracted 22,000 on Fox Sports. By comparison, the three NRL games on Saturday rated well on Fox Sports with NZ Warriors and Gold Coast attracting 170,000, Sydney Roosters and Manly 233,000, while Penrith and North Queensland had 265,000 viewers. Even the Super Rugby game between Queensland and ACT had 85,000 viewers on 9GEM. The AFLW game between Melbourne and Adelaide also outrated the A-League with 83,000 fans watching on 7Mate and Fox Footy. Also on Fox Footy, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs attracted 37,000 fans while St Kilda v GWS had 27,000 fans. The AFL season kicks off this weekend with some blockbuster matches expected to further impact on A-League numbers. A few club owners and CEO’s were contacted for comment but declined to do so given the confidential nature of the current in progress TV deal. It is understood that Stan Sports are firming as favourites to get the TV rights, with a free-to-air channel reportedly ‘interested.’ Amazon and SportsFlick are also considered contenders. Fox Sports looks likely to lose its 16 year partnership with the A-League.
