Something is really scetchy if Australia can drop 9 places in 2 years, and the Philippines, Turkmanistan, and Tajikistan, that have never even been in the comp are considered superior. The point structure doesn't make sense, and noting also the strength of the eastern conference, it seems to be having a detrimental affect to team that aren't 1 their pools

No one cares for the ACL anyway, it’s a financial burden for our teams. Until the AFC make the competition lucrative and not damaging why should we respect it?

Explains why we dropped like a stone. But still don't understand the point structure

I think the A league clubs do care about the ACL and take it seriously. Our teams play their best players throughout the tournament. China, Korea and Japan often run with 2nd string teams. We've even had adjustment of the A League schedule to accommodate ACL participating teams in recent years. The lack of depth in A league squads due to the salary cap is probably a big disadvantage for us. We are forced to use more players on a short turnaround so our teams tend to run out of gas. The depth in the Wanderers squad this season would probably hold it in good stead if they were competing in the ACL this year.
These South East Asian teams are overtaking us in the AFC rankings by racking up points in the AFC Cup. You're better off winning a large number of games in the AFC Cup then getting just 1 or 2 wins in the ACL. There's nothing wrong with the AFC points system, you need an avenue for lower teams and nations to progress (some A league owners may not agree I guess). Australia would be better off ranking-wise if we had one team in the AFC Cup, perhaps instead of a half spot in the ACL.

Taking the ACL serious or not, by just having only 1 ACL spot it makes difficult for the APL or the FA in giving that spot to, just shows how important is for teams in taking this tournament more serious as it effects the rankings for the rest of the teams here.

Even if this were true, you could use the exact same argument as to why no one cares about the a-league. How? The aleague is the national comp, any one how cares about the development of Australian players should care about the National Comp. The ACL commences in 2 months, 8 months after FC won, it is a financial burden on the club's, and normally ends with A-league teams having to prioritise between a competion stacked against them and a competitive national league. To add the A-league, doesn't even show the ACL respect with no bye weeks, and scheduling discrepancies. It's insulting, and the AFC borders on farcical

Very hard for the A-League clubs to put everything into it because of timing issues, and of course, they lose a stack of money just taking part in it. Of course, the timing issues could be fixed up with us aligning more with the East Asian season.

i must wonder how we will go in the afc cup instead.
It will still be a financial burden on our clubs because of the travelling we have to do

It's a national comp, the prestige is what Australians make it.

China No2, gimmi a break. Is this table run by Chinese interests? I notice down below it says Chinese Taipei and not Taiwan. Might be a clue right here.

It's a shame they didn't factor in the points from 2020. Victory getting to the 2nd round and Sydney winning/drawing a couple of games at the end will have certainly given us more points than the likes of Phillipines, Vietnam and Nth Korea.
Worst case scenario a couple of Aussie teams play in the AFC cup... at least we may have a chance at winning something.

Except it doesn't, Iceland does have money they made the world cup, el galacticos had money and struggled, Leicester didn't have money and won, and they beat every team with money. It doesn't matter if you have money, it's finding value for the money you have.

They can keep there 50 k a game. We get to the WC and it's worth alot more than the 5.5 million the winner accumulates.
