If you look for A-League news on sites like ABC news and Nine news,A-League doesnt exist.Even more bizarre os that ABC who show an A-League game only report W-League and Matilda news. Seven at least has Soccer down the bottom of sports options. But little else. Ten no news. Sky no sports news. Yahoo news ,not really news, no sport. How times have changed.

I've been frustrated about this for decades. I worked with a statistician on compiling football coverage in our local tabloid. It was minuscule - even compared to AFL in their off season. Also, three units of column space to one, 3:1 ratio, was European football compared to domestic football.

Aleague has had a steady decline over the last 5 years. The media just reflects this. There is light, some of the crowds and tv viewing has shown some hope which tell us there is a strong rusted on support. The fact that the internal war is ended and a new TV deal is around the corner I am hoping for further steadying of the ship and rebuilding. Football is just so inconsistent and frustrating in this country. All our problems are self inflicted.

There is little to no football news on the ABC News app, plenty of AFL (AFLW) and NRL. There’s never even a report on the A-League match that they televise! Very poor from the National broadcaster.

I’ve noticed in even our own football media there is a serious lack of a 1-10 match summary even when discussing a match

It's an absolute joke as to the lack of coverage the A League gets. Question is what can be done about it?

Lacklustre content.
Dull on the pitch and a sanitised environment has made it quite dull off the pitch and the interest has waned. The media bashing the fans actually kept the game in the news to an extent too.
But back to on the pitch, imagine the content a real football pyramid would provide.

Not dull football this season, you obviously don’t watch the A-league. .....just post comments tearing it down.

Would have been a few more eyeballs on Jets v Victory yesterday, for sure.

At least the W-League grand final should be the lead sports story on the ABC tomorrow as was the Matidas loss to Germany today as part of their remit to cover women's sport. Can't speak for any other TV news outlet though as I avoid them like the plague.

It's actually not dull on the pitch at the moment. Endless "A League is dying" posts have probably contributed to the media's decline in interest.

Australian media is tone deaf mate. They spend 90% of fox news in the off season covering AFL shoulder injuries.

On another thread I can’t remember the name of, I’ve posted a range of football specific performance criteria to highlight how the AL has improved, TSF. I’ve seen segments of most games too.

For me the Simon Hill and Fox Sports podcast are quite detailed and enjoyable regarding the A League. I'm sure others have certain podcasts or site. I guess that's where the A League has headed. It's a niche and those that enjoy it will seek it out.
Evidently word of mouth is the biggest driver of getting others to attend games. My NRL loving brother went to a Mariner's game and had a great time. He's shared it with his students at a primary school and the kids' families are going now too. The MSM has never really taken to the A League but I do wish ABC or SBS would be sold on the idea but until Fox clear out and the better pundits leave Optus, we won't see the best or most knowledgeable presenters I feel.
Regarding the quality of games this season, I can't recall a season in recent memory being this competitive and exciting especially with local players. Week after week we see more local names doing well in their games. Each story would have article potential like what the AFL and NRL churn out massively week for week. The Mariners lead and hope some quality kids and imports. Each club has had their fair share of high quality performances and the weekly prospect of Newcastle and Victory finally try to get out of their hole interests me.
A second tier would undoubtedly create a lot more interest but until we get that, the players this season have delivered immensely on what we'd so hoped for.

1. There has been ongoing declining interest in the league for about 7 years now. 2. Fox losing the Premier League hit the A-League quite hard. 3. Whatever media interest used to exist was probably driven hard by Lowy snr when he was the Chair. JJ might be football person, he might be the very best CEO in the history of the game, but the truth of the matter is that the local media wouldn't know him from a bar of soap. 4. The media has been cutting costs right across the board for years now, so a smallish league like the A-League becomes collateral damage. Think of all the journos who used to make a living writing exclusively about football about 10 years ago. How many are there these days? A couple left?

Have noticed the ABC go real hard on AFLW with the W-league a distant 2nd. 50 places from the girls is the A-league. Also pisses me off how they refer to it as 'soccer' on all their channels. Every other media outlet calls it football including Murdoch's clowns.

Didn't see it but I have watched it before when they had Ange on the panel. General speaking they give the A-league pretty short shrift on the radio. (Edit: Just watched the segment and a couple of forced attempts at calling it 'football' through gritted teeth. I'm no zealot when it comes to calling it soccer or football but I have noticed the ABC are definitely in the 'soccer' camp.) https://iview.abc.net.au/show/offsiders/series/0/video/RS2008V013S00
