if you knew what I knew you wouldn't be asking.
The club brought in some external people to look at culture, and they did a questionnaire and half the team complained that he wouldn't let them sleep together...so he had to go.

This made me laugh rather a lot.

So much mystery re the past...

I could be wrong also but Ben Cahn plays a similar style of football to Ange? He's Brisbane Olympic play a nice attractive style from limited viewing that ive seen play.

Absolutely. Without doubt playing the best football in Qld. The Roar youth and Olympic game was a great spectacle.

You think the large gap between Power and Olympic on the ladder is primarily budget?  Genuine question.  Ben has been a consistent success with what he's had to work with for a while now.  I was hoping he would get the Roar job before Moon.

And never underestimate the positive effects of jargon ;)

Definitely. Power want to be in the discussion for a NSD, and they've recruited a squad that they feel would be able to compete in said NSD. I'm sure that if they were put into one, there'd be a few changes and whatnot, but the squad they have atm wouldn't come cheap imo. There's nothing wrong with spending, so I'm not trying to make out what they're doing is wrong, I just think there's a reason they are where they are, and that's because they've been able to get the best possible players to the club. The feeling I get from players that I talk to that play in NPL QLD is that there's only one reason players are signing there, and it's not because of coaching or facilities...

Not a fan of Philp, all he seems to do is shout a lot of buzz words like "press" and groan in frustration. Used to watch him quite a lot when he was the head coach at North Pine, and then saw him a fair bit when he was the assistant at Mitchelton. His success at Power is impressive, but when you consider the amount of $$$ that they're spending, it's no wonder they're attracting the best players in SEQ to the club.

Hopefully this is true.  Ben Cahn deserves a shot at the AL, he's done some good things with Olympic.  Aaron Philp from Pen Power might be worth a look as well.

Hopefully he ends up at a club with a proper budget. CCM finished third with only a couple of wins behind two of the biggest spending clubs in the league. The guy somehow managed to achieve that result with Matt Simon as a starting attacker. That speaks volumes in itself. If CCM had just a bit more experience/quality they would have been a proper contender for the double.

Without a doubt Stajic is a top coach and will coach overseas, if not now then sometime in the not too distant future. He obviously didn’t have the budget to move forward with the Mariners but his achievement there in the past two and a bit seasons, along with previous roles at Sydney FC and the Matildas, is proof of his great coaching abilities.

Hearing that Ben Cahn will be brought in as his replacement. Intriguing appointment tbh, and I like it in the sense that it isn't someone from the merry-go-round landing there. Would know the club well, having worked there before, so I guess it'll just be a case of 'wait and see' in regard to whether he actually gets the job.

Apparently it's popped up on Twitter, a lad I know from England [lives in Bangkok] asked me about him, as he casually follows the A-League. One of the perks of us running our competition while other leagues were shutting down was that we picked up a few casual fans. I've seen Cahn in action in the past at NPL QLD games, and I thought he looked like quite good tbh.

Lofthouse certainly deserves an opportunity at AL level, but I don't think Leck is of the level required tbh. Leck didn't stand out when he went down to NPL Victoria, which is usually a good indicator imo.

Thats true re: Leck, but that was in a shambolic Pascoe Vale side that would go on to get relegated. And it was two years ago. I have watched him a fair bit for Olympic in the past season and a half and he has definitely grown as a player since he debuted for BR.

Have you heard this from Local sources, NPL QLD grounds?

If true, I reckon we may finally get to see Jez Lofthouse at AL level or Daniel Leck back at AL level.

So an ownerless Jets are probably better run than CCM who have an owner?

Can Charlesworth be stripped of ownership if it is deemed he isnt making a viable contribution to the club?

The problem is alot of the private land under the mariners name is contracted to charlesworth e.g. the COE. You give him the flick and he holds the land, and the mariners literally do become a shell of a club.
Its the problem with constant desperate times i.e. 2012-13, they do have knock on effects.

This is disappointing but also not surprising either, the Mariners always had a ceiling with its owner not willing to spend more money to improve the squad for next season, lets hope they continue the good work that's set by Staj with the new coach.

At least they have something that works for them.

Staj to Western United? Newcastle Jets? Back to women's football?

Very sad if true.
Losing Staj will probably mean the loss of numerous other key players.
Jeez...I'm rusted on CCM but they make it bloody hard sometimes.

Wellington lost rudan and got Ufuk. It’s frustrating but I really hope you get another young Aussie coach

This would be a body blow to the Mariners. If the owner  lets this happen he is a loser.Build it up and let it fall.If management had any sense they would be on the front foot.
Maybe everything hinges on the stadium bid?
