VAR takes a second goal off Saudi. The Vietnam player hadn't starting going down until the Saudi player went into his back. I feel though the body contact wasn't much either. Normally that would be given anywhere on the pitch and I'm surprised the ref let it run in Vietnam's own box allowing Saudi to simply cross and score.

Vietnam yellow for diving in box. Doesn't really look like contact until you zoom in and that's a dangerous brief lunge from the Saudi defender where the Vietnamese player could've almost gotten a VAR pen had he not simulated it so hard.

Very nervous ending but Saudi Arabia hold in for a crucial 1:0 win. Some good stuff at the end from Vietnam.

Very useless Vietnam...not even 1 shot on target a whole game. We must win and hope Japan drops point against Oman.

Our 11 is in
Ryan Grant Sainsbury Degenek Behich Jeggo Irvine Hrustic Leckie Duke Boyle
Not too happy. Arnie really testing patience with bringing in Leckie while ignoring so many who are arguably better and doing all that travel for nothing. Ruka and Maclaren must be livid.

Freaking Saudi Arabia. Was really hoping some of those incursions into the Saudi penalty box would lead to a goal. The Saudi goal was also a bit fluky, although they appear to have been the better real for most of the match.
Why can’t other teams in the group draw with each other? FFS!!

What is the point on Ruka even being there? Graham Arnold really is a space cadet

UAE with crucial win against Lebanon. All 3 winning 1:0 away in Vietnam. You could argue they came closest to catching Australia out but Saudi were shaky in some parts and their goal was just over the line.

In hindsight our group is much stronger or maybe more effective for another term. Ours so far has 46 total game points whereas the other has 41. More so teams are drawing or beating each other.

Going over the 11 again and the bench make me very mad at some of the calls. If the 11 deliver tonight I'll be very happy but I'm getting concerned Arnie has lost the plot and the camp will be getting annoyed by not playing their best players.
That's what broke Ange's squad. Smith and Kruse always getting in despite not club minutes saw a rift occur. I don't think Arnold's selections are less justified here but there are a number of players on the bench tonight who'll be annoyed. This is a chance to test their professionalism.

Arguably its the Oman Japan game with the bigger chance of an upset tonight. I fear we won't win tonight. The doubts are really creeping in and the pre game interviews have the same cliche statements and the cliche post game statements of brilliant performance but disappointing result are already printed.

Just woke up and have seen the starting team. Not happy, but not shocked. Arnold’s inflexibility continues. I really hope we can get the result tonight.

Unhappy that Karacic and Elder haven’t been given an opportunity. Agree with Mabil being left out.

To be honest this generation sucks. If you exclude the foreign players then we are really bad

Irvine again. Like in Sydney it surprised him but he's got to at least have some readiness there.

Does Irvine have a left foot?
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

That counter was a chance yet everyone just runs into box with no plans.

+xDoes Irvine have a left foot? Yeah that cross to Leckie late vs Denmark but Juric had other plans.

Great we need to hear Arnie screaming 'Ryano' every time he's free.

We needed an early goal. China have come into the game and its pretty even now. Same scenario as the Saudi game.

And Hrustic needs to get his accuracy sorted. Few what could have been costly turnovers.

Some really great crossing thus far... At least Wilkshire actually got them in there.
