Posting the link as th article deserves a click. Also posting it here as the Asian football sub-forum is dead.
I wonder if there’s more clubs over there in a similar boat.

Pretty sure there is a lot of radical changes going on in China. Didn't last season's winners fold or something like that? lol

Didn't last season's winners fold or something like that? lol Yeah the league is seemingly in financial ruin and yes Jiangsu (Sainsbury’s former club) folded. I did some digging and there have been plenty of foreigners who have left the league, especially at Beijing Gouan.

He's looking pretty comfortable over in Scotland

They've sold off their stadium project to another real estate group, hope it still goes ahead as construction was quite advanced.

+xFootball in China is just not meant to be Surely the local interest could not justify spending the money they have. Its also attracted minimal worldwide interest so eventually it had to die.

The Chinese government mandated a luxury tax on clubs but that didn't stop clubs spending. The csl then tried to make clubs use their academy's and yet clubs didn't . Evergrande is in bigger strife as the parent company is indebt massively. And could be reprecussions world wide

China should have been selling their homegrown products overseas like hotcakes instead of hoarding & inflating their domestic player wage bill. Just did it the wrong way really...

Lightly unrelated but what's with all the club name rebrands? I noticed Shanghai SIPG are now Shanghai Port and Evergrande are now just FC?

Was always going to happen. The CSL should have built slowly with players at the end of their peak (as opposed to start of their peak) and worked on improving their domesitc talent. Pretty much the MLS blueprint would have worked well for China. Instead they went for the quick fix and whilst their foreigners were on par with some major european clubs, their local players were inferior which made it not good watching. No one wants to watch top level players run around the opposition defence as if they were witches hats. The silver lining for Australian football is that there is less incentive for our top talent to leave Europe early and chase the Chinese money and have clauses put in their contracts for the CSL (Like Mooy had)

Some people seem to see this as a CSL problem whereas is it Evergrande being way overleveraged and out of cash. There share price is down 80% year to date and have $310b in debt. They have way bigger issues than their football club like running a ponzi scheme promising 12-13% roi to retail investors and having executives essentially held hostage in hotels with investors wanting their money.
While yes football clubs are expensive this is way bigger than that
