2022 WCQ draw with China and Oman, fail to get win against SA at home. To think this qualification could have been worse as SA missed some good chances in the last 15 minutes of that game and i'd say were fairly equal to vietnam away.

I could elaborate further on player selections, substitutions, tactics etc. I believe Graham Arnold should be sacked as with him at the helm I just don't see how we beat SA and Japan, let alone qualify through South America. 

I don’t think he’s the worst ever. But he is currently doing a very poor job…compounded by very poor tournament results as outlined in the first post.

Probably. When he keeps playing the same old players (literally) that have played poorly this WCQ campaign - but then expecting different results using the same old tactics as well - you’re well out of your depth. 

This is a good question.

IMO for Asian Cups, as we are (or should be) a top side in the AFC, the target should be Semis at least. We should always be aiming to win the comp.

Olympics and World Cups the target should be getting out of the group at least.

Rudi Gutendorf 16.7% wins says hello.  That era of Shoulder, Green and Gutendorf was horrendous.

None of the players you mention were ever international standard to begin with.

We have never qualified for an Olympics in Asia unless Arnold was manager. 

cant comment from before i was born but in my life time yes he is abysmal and the fact he was given the job a 2nd time for me is unforgivable.

Suthobear - yep agreed we actually have more that are not NT standards I'm sure many would agree hence me quoting the players are not up to it as well not just arnold.

A Pep or Klopp may get alot more out of ordinary players but they are few and far between.

The aim should always be high, you can only go as as high as the cattle can perform.
We have no outliears, who can win a game out of the blue ? who turns a game on its head ? no one.

Look at the players he has & the leagues those players play in & look at the trajectory of the Australian football players in the past 10 years & see what leagues they are playing in. 

Also take an overarching look at football at Australia.  We have a closed shop league & closed shop governing body that has actively & maliciously excluded & contracted football in Australia.  

This is all a long time in the making.

With the players at his disposal it wasn’t that hard. Either way the way he parked the bus against Egypt was unacceptable. We showed in the 2nd half we could match them but it was too late

Recieves the ball edge of the box, bang, 2nd one he follows up play from down the right flank inside pass first time in the onion bag.
TBH it that simple right - now why can't we see that more in our NT games.
Its nothing to do about arnold to me, its about the attitude/desire and being there.
I mean last game we had leckie boyle down the flanks, ball getting across finally etcetc or lets talk about 2nd ball around the opponent thrids after one of our attacks.
Where has Rogic been to capitilise and take the opportunity.

I don't think he's the worst, but I look at the players we have available and I watch the games they play - and he is not getting either the best out of the players or the best players out.

His tactics are always to hold the ball and goals will come. But they don't come in the tough matches and he frequently substitutes any player who actually does score anyway.

He is not a manager for a national side - but he can manage a side that has great players.

These youngsters think they have it tough. Now that was a depressing time.
 

Just a little before my time Gyfox, just googled him and holy crap, he coached more national teams than there are actual football federations and lived well into bis 90s..... what a character.

Tell you who I thought would have kicked on better was Eddie Thomson for I did admire him but 20loss's from 52 games hurt.
Farina tenure had its moments and tbh I didn't like him and surprised 58% win ratio.

The greatest manager in the world only had a 44.9% record as opposed to Arnies 75 %. I await Mono Leonidas to come along and debunk this stat.

Since our entrance into afc i think holger was the worst by a country mile. Out of date training methods, bad team selection, draw to oman at home

Basically arnie has the problem that we have saudi arabia playing like japan. Normally we can be much worse than them and still be second in the group. Even if we are third like we were under ange, we were playing hondurus, arguably a weaker confederation, rather than peru/columbia

Currently Arnie has achieved no less in qualifying than Ange.

Are our expectations too high? Qualifying for another world cup for the 5th time for a team outside the top 10 is pretty rare I think.
