+x+xAlso two players selected from J2 in Japan which explains where we are going right now for overseas selections, Japan's squad left out Hatate and Kyogo who play with Mooy at Celtic. 2 players from J2 going, while the 2 from J1 miss out. That’s a little strange as well. Football is a team game. Club form and the scenario at a club, with the idiosyncrasies of other club team-mates' skill sets, doesn't always extrapolate to international football and specific international teams.

+x+x+xKing is the least justified selection. Love Vukovic but he's been a little sluggish so far this season. It seems there are two fractions out there in the media. If Langerak had been picked, I don't think they'd have much content. Langerak and Rogic. I think Rogic would have been handy in at least one or two games. Hrustic and McGree are fine but they lack that x-factor. Sains is a surprise but hearing he hasn't been playing in Qatari league makes that one somewhat understandable. I also think Taggart probably should have been picked, certainly over bloody MacLaren who's never been anything but useless for the socceroos. The rest of the squad is fine, I guess. I haven't seen much of King, so not qualified to comment. I'd have Taggart over Maclaren purely because the former can score better at the higher level. Having Rogic would be nice but lets hope Baccus can get on and unsettle the opponent. I agree with most of your posts but seriously... Have a look at Taggart's stats over the last few years. Nowhere near what we need. I don't much rate MacLaren or Duke either but MacLaren is at least in form. Would be happier if we were set up to use him properly.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xThe Langerak decision is justice. The dude rejected his country when we needed all the help we could get during the most intense WCQ ever, and watched as actual dedicated Socceroos pushed through for their country. After all the hard word was done, this pea heart says “Ooh I’m ready to come out of retirement now as I’d really like to play at the World Cup! 😃” Fuck off with that shit. As a multi millionaire professional athlete, his excuses for retirement were poor when the rest of the squad, including other Japan-based players, were prepared to do what it takes for their country.
I am so stoked that we haven’t been so weak to allow the national team shirt to be tarnished by letting people like Langerak pick and choose when they’d like to play for the national team. I’ve said previously that I’d enjoy a similar stance on JMac & Leckie, but they only turned down a couple of games, whereas Langerak turned down an entire WCQ cycle.
Langerak made his bed. He only has himself to blame. It's evident to me that the only reason why Arnold is picking Vukovic is so his bum chum CCM can get the 10'000 compensation FIFA give are giving to clubs per day, same goes with Cummings as there is zero point to him being there. You're either a troll, or Adam Taggart in disguise. Cummings ought to be first picked right now, as anyone with half a football brain ought to know. I guess you must be Cummings dad. Cummings has spent most of his career in British lower leagues comes to the A-league scores a few goals and you all think his god's gift to football. Why not pick someone like a D'agositno, Arzani, Tilio who are younger, better and will probably be used in the side in the future. Getting real sick of the CCM fanboys, there a mid-table A-league team, half the squad can't be made up of players from there. i wouldnt call the spl and the championship lower leagues. Cummings career breakdown: SPL - 54 games - never more then 18 in a season, 14 goals Scottish championship - 150 games, 77 goals English league 1 - 82 games, 19 goals English championship - 17 games, 4 goals A-league - 26 games, 13 goals So that approx 80% of his games at Scottish championship, league 1 or A-league level were 85% of his goals have come from. Just have to be honest with yourself if he was any good, he wouldn't have come to the A-league as someone who is fully Scottish. Boyle and MacLaren did not combine well at HIBS. Genuine question: has JMac ever combined well with anyone (apart from himself)?! Always seems like a 1 man band to me He combined well with Borello at Brisbane. Borello cross, Maclaren tap-in

+x+xOf course no one has mentioned Sainsbury missing out. That would go against the "jobs for the boys" narrative. Yup. The silence is very telling. Not true. I for one said kodus to Arnold for making that decision. It sure can't have been easy.

Taggart's link up play with Boyle is much more valuable than Maclaren's going missing in international football. It's an interesting case study about how we use club stats and don't see the benefit come at international level. These are Taggart's goal interval rates per minute over the last 4 seasons. 2019: 1 goal every 143min 2020: 191 2021: 350 2022: 166 2019 golden boot is fairly easy to comprehend but this is the interesting bit, his rate goal rate with so few minutes this season is near his rate as the golden boot winner. Funnily his better form year for the national team (2021) is twice as bad at club level. I certainly agree that we need to set things up to benefit Maclaren. We probably won't now we've got Cummings. Maybe Maclaren starts vs Tunisia.

Browsing over some stats. Arzani was in fact the youngest players of the whole 2018 tournament. Surely Kuol comes close for 2022.

+x+xI still can't believe Langerak missing out. It makes no sense whatsoever and Arnold's explanation is the most pathetic cop out I've ever heard from a coach. Apparently he knows nothing about goal keeping so let John Crawley pick the keepers? What even is that? Vukovic selection is honestly inexcusable. Vukovic is fine - Redmayne should have been the one dropped. Completely agree.

+xCould it just be that Crawley and Arnie want sweeper keepers for the teams structure? I certainly wouldn’t say that Redmayne is a good sweeper keeper.

Squad players by country Scotland 7 Australia 7 England 3 Denmark 2 Italy 2 Japan 2 Germany 1 USA 1 Spain 1 My thoughts immediately went to Gavi who is also 18 but he is just over a month older than Garang. Costa Rica have 18 year old Jewison Bennette but he is a few months older again. Ghana have 18 year old Abdul Fatawu Issahaku but he is even older again But that is 4 more 18 year old players than in 2018.

+x+x+x+xI think it says it all that the anti-arnie crowd are focusing on the Langerak omission. Just shows how little they have to criticise him for with the squad he's picked. Hit the nail on the head. This is a fantastic squad and it’s killing these haters, so they focus on what little they can. How sad for them. Are you serious? He's left out our best player since kewell, viduka and cahill. The guy with such a focused attitude that he chews gum while he plays? To be fair, Marnus Labuschagne manages to chew gum while playing in a sport which, arguably, requires more focus than football and over a far longer period ;)

But, if he wants to be there, then he should and it's a glaring omission given Australia's creative shortcoming in that part of the pitch.

I wish he'd just gotten in but it was too little too late. Had he stayed at Celtic the apparent pressure may have built up even more.

Imagine how much better our squad sheet would look with Rogic, Arzani and Volpato. (And Lyndon Dykes for that matter but that's another Arnold fuckup).

Langerak has kept more clean sheets since 2021 than all the other keepers combined.
He is without any doubt the best playing and has the most recent (high level) accolades for any Aussie goalkeeper in the world.
Why get him out of retirement to do this?

I am on the fence with arnold (he did get the team qualified with was a massive achievement with the players available) but this decision is really, really poor - you have to wonder if Crawley playing favourites or something else going on
