I've got the feeling Wales will be so up for this. England are still fairly comfortable. USA have the attack flair and Iran can sit deep and be robust. It's going to be a hectic session.

It's a tournament so you take your time where you can but the last 3 halves from England have been dire.

Now England are awake. 2:0. Silly Wales error and good England transition.

Shocking Iranian antics to try and get the whistle blown at the end there. They're blatant cheaters.

Anything in the penalty shout? Czech television pretending the IRA/USA game doesn't exist because they just want to crap on about England taking free kicks

Iran switched their game plan in the first half back to the bad old days of park the bus, it completely fucked them.

US youngest starting XI of whole WC so far, nice result against Iran.
Match against Netherlands will be interesting, sucks that Pulisic probably out after injuring himself on goal.

How a nudge on your shoulder makes both feet fly forward and you land on your ass is beyond me.

Just watching the early parts of the replay of Netherlands V Qatar, the advertised formation pre-match for the Dutch was 5-3-2.
In the back third and middle third of the pitch, the Dutch are playing a 4-3-3 with a defensive midfield triangle - one of their tried and true traditional formations.
Brazil in their last game played a 4-4-2 flat midfield in Ball Possession Opposition, then a 4-3-3 attacking midfield triangle in attack, evolving to a 4-2-4 in the attacking third, as the number Ten moved into a central position creating a flat front 4. A bit like the Socceroos.

Just after I've posted the Dutch are playing a 4-3-3 defensive midfield triangle, they've reverted to a 5-3-2, or more of a 3-5-2 in the central third and attacking third of the pitch. It is a most unDutch like formation. Van Gaal has used it quite a lot. They are completely outclassing Qatar.

Poms are so underwhelming watching them since the 1st big win. I suppose your just looking to do enough get into next phase and form lifts more coming up but their group wasn't no where near as hard as others. You'd think they would have been alot more convincing and playing more flowing football. Anyway let see how they deal with Senegal for that won't be a easy one and big test. Netherlands are hardly mentioned having topped the group and should finish off USA next.

Was at the Korea Ghana game yesterday. Match of the tournament so far for me. So much drama. Korea should have gone away with a point but that's football. Was at Senegal Ecuador today. Senegal deserved winners. Hate Uruguay and hate Ronaldo but will say Uruguay dudded to have their player adjudged handling the ball to give Portugal a penalty. Absolute garbage. Doubly so because IFAB put out specific advice to say an arm supporting the player is not deemed to be handball. And no the hand doesn't have to be touching the ground.

Watching most of the Netherlands/Qatar game it has been eye catching football from both teams.
The Dutch have dominated, as expected for a world powerhouse, by playing exquisite one and two touch football in possession. They've built up slowly, systematically and patiently with neat triangles and diamonds.
However, Qatar has plenty of technical quality too.
The differences are:
1. Qatar don't move off the ball anywhere near as well, or a quickly as the Dutch, when they are in possession. They also don't push the shape of the team up, making it more compact between the lines, when they progress the build ups into the attacking third. Hence, the Qatari players are often too far away from each other and passes are more easily intercepted by Netherlands.
2. When Qatar are in BPO, their Squeeze isn't as well-coordinated and intense as the Dutch, and they don't maintain a compact shape and are organised enough. Qatar struggles to disturb Dutch build ups by closing down time and space quickly enough.
The manifest weaknesses against the Dutch may not be as easily exploited by even the best Asian teams. The Qatari wingers have outpaced the Dutch defenders too.

Watched the England / Wales game from about 40 mins onwards.
England are learning to play at slower tempos, and change the rhythm fast/slow/fast/slow in international fixtures, because of the day heat, or warm nights in Qatar.
It is interesting to see England adopt a continental style of football using a 4-3-3 attacking midfield triangle when they are in possession. Go back years ago and most of the EPL was 4-4-2 with flat midfield lines - a crossing game.
I still don't think they can win the WC, but they got to the semis in Russia. They came good in the second half against Wales, but they had played three previous halves without scoring.
From what I've seen to date, I think it is going to be one of France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Portugal or Netherlands that will win in Qatar.

That's a terrible call to give Argentina a penalty. Keeper globe grazes Messi's face.
Fucking redemption! Saved!

Argentina awarded a soft penalty and Messi's penalty kick saved by the Polish keeper.

+xArgentina can be knocked out right if Poland and Saudi both win? They need at least a draw to go through. Even that may not be enough depending on other results.
