Apart from Brazil and Argentina being missing, that isn't terribly far from a list of best leagues in the world

yer friggin hurts the Azzuri out x 2 times in a row, you can't believe it tbh then again we have been good capitchulating games should have won like Ferrari of late :( Begs the question re United and the amount of WC players in their ranks. The place is a melting pot especially now that CR7 has blown it wide open publicly, he's never needed incentives but this is huge this last WC for him and post WC. Port are a dark horse as usual today and their line up is impressive, if they click they can go all the way.

Uncanny resemblance to our games in Oman here for Germany. Albeit a friendly, some of the German first touches are really giving up the ball. Crosses are just missed which also leaves us frustrated for scoring chances.

Oman are like a fat man playing squash. Great ball movement and then miss an open goal. Germany mistiming tackles and hardly standing right.
It'll be a totally different affair against Japan I'm sure but 75min of those has the pundits scratching their heads.

thanks for your updates mate. As we expected talking Germany, the euros will take sometime adjusting to the environment. Varies by player obviously. I know myself at my low levels playing in unfamiliar ground takes adjusting, playing in Qatar, mid 20's to 30+ during the day, surreal vibe around you etc..... Yer Japan at least have had experience playing in ME, the Krauts are going have a battle on their hands.

I'll have to do a bit of a search. I'm curious how other teams are rating their facilities and camp atmosphere. Who knows, there may even be some kind of pay dispute or FA fallout for someone.

Oddly the FIFA Facebook posted it was 1:1. That's how late the penalty must have been.

It's here. Day 1.
Part of me thinks 2:1 Qatar but more so 3:0 Ecuador.

I'm not joining my mates' boycott of the tournament, but don't give a single shit about the Qatar games beyond checking that they lost on flashscore.

I hope Qatar wins. They have a reasonable chance. Ecuador is such a boring side, and it'd be good for the tournament if the home country won the first game. That said, nothing would surprise me in this one. Qatar are kind of all over the place. They were surprisingly dominant at the Asian Cup, but haven't shown anything like that kind of form since. They look to have peaked far too early in the cycle.
Ultimately I predict a deathly dull 0-0. At least I won't regret not watching it that way.

In this latest potential scandal, author and political affairs expert Amjad Taha alleges Qatar has bribed multiple Ecuadorian players to lose the opening match on purpose, using a total sum of $US7.4 million ($11.1 million). Taha claims to have confirmed the scheme’s existence with “insiders” in both camps, and says it would involve a 1-0 scoreline, with the goal coming in the second half.

You'd think this game from a Japanese perspective is testing their secondary team vs Costa Rica Oh yeah I think they'll rotate a bit for that one. Pretty tricky for Japan as they'll need to avoid defeat against a bigger team while balancing enough to defeat Costa Rica. Despite their poor showing against NZ, Costa Rica are really banking on experience and will be dogged.

Ecuador 06 was a fun team. Part of me hopes Almoez Ali has a blinder just to see Germans asking 'how is it possible he can play well?' being in the AFC, we get a lot more insight into the teams of the confederation but the lack of any kind of critical thinking by Europeans on how Qatar could have developed players is annoying. Eupen aside, I'd like someone like Almoez Ali to make a European move.

Mixed feelings about the Japan Germany game. Getting the feeling Japan will win akin to Argentina beating France at the opening game of the 07 RWC. The discussion of the Bundesliga influence will then come. Certainly wouldn't expect an Italian sacking of those South Korean players though.

Watch this space I sincerely don't think this is true because it makes no sense whatsoever. I just can't see Qatar risking its international reputation on something so dumb. The scandal would taint them forever, far more than some dead Bangladeshi workers ever could. It would be the stupidest thing ever.

Ecuador score on 3 but a minimal offside pulls it back. Penalty for Ecuador on 16. They're in total control. Good transitions and very concentrated.
And it's 2:0 on 33. Valencia with a fine header. Qatar are shellshocked in this.
