Oakleigh have already come out to say the aren't interested, as have Avondale and Bulleen.... Bentleigh I dont think are even on the radar of anyone, let alone themselves... small club (with arguably great results on the pitch the last few years) Preston and the Bergers (I think) will have to fight it out and whoever get up over the other there will be a bit of bad blood - as if it was ever NOT going to be bad blood heheheheh.
Two "interesting" bids for me are:

1)Hume.. They have an OK ish ground for this (although it gets bloody cold there in winter, it does have more seating than the WU training abomination) but I thought their financial backer (a builder) was on hard times... Maybe they have sourced some funding and if so, why not.

2) George Cross - fabulous old historical club, I understand they have a bit of cashola from the move to City Vista and a fairly eneretic board and membership base... would love to have them in.

SA clubs seem quiet.
QLD clubs are keen, but their biggest isn't yet? Lions?

Looks like we're expecting a second tier of Vic and NSW clubs.
Not a bad thing for me.
Perhaps will make it more viable.

LFC sorry about the 5-2 result, that was horrible. Either Klopp goes or he rebuilds, needs midfielders, though the young Spanish/Serbian guy looks good.

Do you know any rich Portuguese guy willing to back Rockdale?

haha the highs and lows of a supporter, trust you to bring it up :)
The Serb/Spanyal kid reminds me of Gavi/Pedri, play well above their age and huge promise yer.

yer that so re Rockdale, news to me, might have to ask some of the port mafia if they know of this.

OK re Vic, MK would be pretty safe getting in with SMH, the rest we will see.
MSC, my Prestons contact sent me a sponsership proposal for this season actually, looked pretty polished that I politely declined but he quotes they financially stable and word that getting some localGov funding for ground redevelopment.
Also said was the whole purpose reaching out for funding of any kind for their serious about NSD/T looking ahead.

Cheeez re the Jnr fees, fellas the ball even hasn't got to approve stage how could any Club say anything about Jnr fees from next season.
I'm with you its excessive but lets not push the chicken before the egg boundary yet eh.

It's one of those situations where if one of a number of these clubs can secure some good investment they may be able to get across the line.
Over the last couple of weeks, I've found that you talk to one person (who claims to have inside knowledge), and they say <insert club name here> will be in for sure. Then you talk to another person (who also claims to have inside knowledge) and they will say that same club are not even close and won't even apply.
A lot of unknowns with the Vic clubs at the moment. I reckon the lockdowns may have taken a toll on a few that otherwise would have had a crack.

It seems to be this common held opinion that NPL clubs (with senior squads) use junior fees, fleeced from gullible parents, to pay the salaries of their senior players?!?!?!?!

Has anyone got any concrete evidence of this or is it just hearsay? I mean, any member of an NPL club with access to their clubs EOY financial report from the AGM or something? A couple of posters on here, involved in the NPL have highlighted whree the funds are allocated, repeatedly, yet the perception still seems to exist?

Also, second part to the question is, does anyone know, for a fact, that all Aleague clubs do not charge similar fees? I understand a couple don't, but interested to hear why they do/dont from someone on the inside.....

I am not in either camp by the way, can't say with hand on heart what goes on in junior NPL land.

Strikers are a Basket case at the moment

Hard to believe they can show financial stability

https://twitter.com/CameronAtfield/status/1612338493069590528?s=20

Strikers and Wynnum Wolves could join, although, Olympic fc are a better run entity and could go it alone.

Still pinching myself that the days of glorified park football finally seem to be coming to an end. Will be interesting to see how the last ~18 years in the state leagues will be viewed by the fan bases with the passage of time. As captivating as fixtures like south v eastern lions or Marconi v macarthur u21 are ..

Why would they pay in the millions when the NST is a lot cheaper to apply to and would have a great feel good factor in the first couple of seasons?

If Canberra wanted to form a mainstream club just so to play in lower leagues, they would have done it by now.

I would also get the notion that the NST is "Full Time Professional" across the board from players coaches and administrators is not a given.
The NPL CLubs have been constrained for two decades now, told they won't be on a National Platform, won't have a remote possibility of being in the ALM and siloed into NPL to produce players for the ALM and Socceroos, that's your role. Quite frankly they were neutralised.

Give the NST some time to get used to the idea of the chains being removed and work towards growth and capability. It's only logical.

I have consistantly said if we want to improve having an existing NST in the NPL, with over 120 clubs and 2,500 players was not going to cut it.

With a NST of 12-14 teams we will get better outcomes, even if part time initially. Clubs will be ambitious and wanting success, the way consistant success will come is naturally to become more professional.

So on a more professional footing yes, absolutely. Part time professional Yes to start.

My other concern is that many are saying have a closed league NST for 3-5 years. Absolutely NOT.

Maybe a one year grace period for pro/rel from NST to NPL that's the limit.
Otherwise we fall into the same trap.
Pro/Rel will always have the caveat that a Club comming up to the NST will be required to have the minimum criteria, its a given.
Having Pro/Rel after one year grace allows for ambition, investment and strategic planning from Clubs in the NPL to aspire to the NST, obvious I would have thought.

We don't know if many of the clubs can raise to the requirements and criteria of a NST yet and you're already talking about P&R after 1 year?..... (where's that image of a fairy I can use)!

Not in the NPL era they aren't, best 4 clubs in the NPL Qld (particularly when the league opened up) have been Power, Lions, Olympic and GC Knights and at least 3 of those have put in an EOI and I wouldn't be surprised if Lions did put in an EOI.

Strikers are an FQPL1 team as are Fire with their best days being pre NPL and City are an up and down side who look like they will have a good year but were in FQPL1 2 years ago.

I would expect 2 Qld sides to make the NSD and the smart money would be on Power and GC Knights, biggest hurdle they would have is stadiums, Power can overcome that by playing out of Dolphin Oval, I'm not sure where Knights could play to overcome the shortcomings of their home.

If Lions (the biggest and best club in Qld) applies for the NST it will be them plus most likely Power - IMO

If memory serves me correctly, the last 3 Qld clubs that looked to applying for the A-League were Lions, Brisbane City and Strikers. They must have had the confidence, credentials and resources then, not to mention the history - but for some reason have not put up their hand (so far) despite a less demanding NST.

If Lions don't apply then that tells us they looks at the economics of it project, and thought this is not gonna work?
Considering they started Roar in the A-league, they'll know a thing or two how these "professional leagues" can go

Yep. Food for thought. It's not just Lions either that may be making those considerations (I added another paragraph to my post above that crossed with your one here in relation to this)
