With Behich on a yellow I wonder if they'll give Bos a run off the bench.

Duke playing as well as he has ever for the Socceroos, done some very nice things.
Midfeild okay, Irvine been the best, Baccus and O'Neill have been just okay.
Mabil just does not work hard enough for me although he was better after the goal. I could accept some of his other failings more if he was out there working his butt off for the team. I don't think he is good enough to start for the Socceroos and perhaps there are better, younger options to be an impact sub. Not sure whether he makes a full strength squad.

Goodwin has been excellent. I thought it was a decent first half. But, we really need some creativity. The refereeing has been pretty poor so far.

+x+xWelcome to country is bullshit. It’s Australian culture mate, sorry it’s not Anglo enough for you. No it’s not. It’s some recently invented trash we’re expected to believe has some traditional origins causing nothing but further racial division, sorry I don’t indulge your fantasies. And I’m not Anglo, nice assumption. On the game been an entertaining one so far, looking forward to some new names second half

Australia was stolen from the Aborigines, acknowledging that seems to be a good thing even if it is recently invented.

Offers something different with his pace, great passer who can play in or off our wide forwards + finishing. Subs i'd like to see some of: Robertson > Baccus Borello > Duke Kuol > Mabil Irankunda > Goodwin Bos > Behich

How welcomes are conducted at events these days is a modern version of an ancient tradition.
Speak to First Nations leaders and ask them about its importance. It’s the best way to learn and appreciate culture.

If we keep up this form we have to be a favourite at next Asian cup.
Where did all these guys come from?

Bos has to start the second game, what are we going to learn from playing Behich again. If Strain is fit for the second game he should play RB. Deng should come in for one of Souttar or Rowles so we can see where he is at. I would bring in Robertson or Metcalfe for Irvine, again we know what Irvine can do. Devlin can come in for Baccus. Goodwin is very good but we need to know how the young wingers are going, start Tilio and Garang. Borello should start up front.
Ryan Strain Souttar Deng Bos Devlin O'Neil Garang Robertson/Metcalfe Tilio Borello

Aiden O'Neill had a top debut.Robertson looked a prospect and has a bit of mongrel.Kuol scored a probable offside goal but he was in the right spot.Souttar is such a leader. Borrello looked lively and is great to see him in the squad.
Ecuador were decent -some good passing and interplay around the box which was a good test for our defence.

+xMabil and Behich have been particularly poor. Degenek is not a RB, not mobile enough. We gain nothing from playing him there. Yeah, we should instead play that guy who played so well against Denmark and Argentina at the WC…. Oh wait.

Thought Tilio was good, kept the ball well and drew fouls. Needs to start in melbourne. Aiden O'Neill did not look out place once. One of the best debut's I've seen.

Did enough to justify a continuing place in the squad.

Or you can do a quick search on the internet, eh griff? “However, the welcome to country ceremony we now have before school starts, when parliament sits and even when we catch a plane, is just 46 years old.Ernie Dingo's dance troupe came up with the impromptu new routine in 1976 after an awkward stand-off with Maori and Cook Islanders who refused to perform at an arts festival until they were ritually welcomed.” lol

Some pretty harsh comments on Mabil in here.
He was fantastic for a player that hasn't been a regular starter for 3+ years. He needs consistent club football.
I have no doubt if he played week in week out at club level he'd be one of our best players.

This team looks so different to the team which just qualified for the WC finals.More dynamic, better ball movement and a sense that the players are all for each other.
A good crop of young players coming through bodes well for the future.

Where did all these guys come from? Genuinely excited by this team! 100%. We have probably the best group since 06 squad we’re peaking. What’s really needed is for 3 or 4 to really go up a level like we’ve seen with Souttar over last 2 years. McGree as example.

Is refreshing seeing a team that though lose out on possession can manufacture some good and clear chances and attacking fluency.
Disagree above about Degenek. He is perhaps a bit slow however his intelligence and engagement makes him our best option at RB atm unless Strain can translate his club form to international. Thought he made some crucial challenges tonight.
Lots to like from this team moving forward. Fingers crossed we don't get comfortable and complacent and can work out a plan when playing against average Asian opposition who try to bog us down. That's a big danger. Unlocking the likes of Kuol, Irankunda and Volpato will be very useful for that.
