APFL -Australian Premier Football League
or
NPLA - National Premier League (Australia) to distinguish from NPLVIC, NPLWA, NPLNSW etc ....

Would by my preferences.

Straight APL - Australian Premier League would be the ideal however I believe the name is copyrighted by badminton or darts or something silly like that? lawn bowls maybe I dont remember.

Won't they just go with the AAFC's suggestion of "The Championship" (or potentially (he Australian Championship to differentiate it from the EFL)?

I could see it being renamed to A-League 2 (or A2 for short) if the NSD is ever organisationally merged into the A-League. Stranger things have happened!

No idea to be honest.... There are a few rumours flying around about a fairly large corporate sponsor wanting naming rights to invest so who knows could be:
Whiskers Cat Food Football League or something equally as cringy :) hahahahahah

I am not a fan of A2 to be honest but, eh, worse things have happened and not really fussed either way what it is called personally, just want kickoff in March 2024 and a full home/away season for at least 14 clubs nationally, no conferences and pro/rel with the state NPLs (if not from the first season then at least by S2 or S3 at MOST)

There won't be a next round of culling, there will just be a final announcement of clubs in September. As they are looking for a minimum of  10 clubs, there would be no need for another round of shortlisting. Although specific deadlines have not been published, it seems to be the deadline for the proposals being in June (I'm assuming EOFY). That being said we may hear about some clubs dropping out voluntarily or opting to not submit a proposal at all for any number of reasons. I reckon we won't hear much for the next few months as alot of this stuff will happen behind closed doors.

Latest Timescale from FA

"The RFP phase will involve the distribution of comprehensive Bid Documents to the shortlisted clubs, including an information memorandum, NST related data, financial forecasts, key terms of a Club Participation Agreement, and draft transaction documents.

This phase will be conducted confidentially, running from May to July 2023.

It will be followed by an assessment and recommendation phase (July to August 2023) and

is anticipated to be completed by September to October 2023."

So, the only thing likely to be heard officially before October is if any individual club announces that they have dropped out.

Might get a few leaks of the requirements set out in the Bid documents in the meantime

The only other thing we may get is some basic detail on is the structure/format of the competition (eg confirmation of a proper regular season format or not), but other than that I'm not expecting much over the next 4-5 months unless there is some controversy along the way.

heheheh oh I expect a LOT of shitballing before then :)

Just a hunch but I think some sort of message will be sent out on or around the WWC as a feel good story to the international press (look Australia is finally getting a second division sort of thing)

“These aspiring clubs, like South Melbourne for example, are big clubs and we need them, we need the healthy rivalry. All clubs will need to make a contribution and bring something to the table so we can all be successful.

“I want to see 8,000 – 10,000 people at BT Connor when we host South Melbourne, I want to see 2000-3000 of our NSW based supporters attend games in Sydney and Wollongong, that’s beautiful, that’s football, that’s our aspiration.” - Quote David Cvetkovski

You WILL see a crapload of us at BT next year Dave, looking forward to renewing the rivalry :)

Loving the new found "understanding" between us and Preston btw. It doesnt fit the "effnik sokkah rivalries are violent and bad" narrative that some still push but thats even more reason why it is so enjoyable to see us uniting as one voice.

I could see it being renamed to A-League 2 (or A2 for short) if the NSD is ever organisationally merged into the A-League. Stranger things have happened!

Surely it would have to be ALM2 … too many of the millions of followers could inadvertently think A2 referred to a 2nd tier women’s league.

I feel like whatever it is named will show clear intent of FA's treatment of pro/rel in future. If the league is called A2 or anything with a reference to to Aleague then we can safely say they are pushing for pro/rel. If NOT then we can safely assume it is a "rival" league and will never be linked to the Alegaue.....

It's beautiful to see that both clubs are happy to move on from the shit that pushed these clubs into the dark ages....you're still going to get the minority of morons that will push the boundaries (similar to what happened at the Oakleigh Preston game) but all in all people are over it and really just want to see Football be the real winner!!!

Bang on.
It was the topic of conversation on the weekend and the fear is that yes a whole bunch of those ultra nationalistic tools from both sides may try and derail things but its up to the clubs and more importantly us the true fans to self police and wheedle these tools out...

yep agreed, we all can't afford the young small % supporters cause amuck in future games.
We can't afford it.
My fellow Italian/Cros have to do similar up here, tell them to gtfo, the club needs to be alot more stringent about all this that I'm sure in signing the FA contract is all there for them to see and been told with huge fines or banishment I expect.
Its a new dawn for the ol Clubs, time to shine.

how are they any different to the BS we have seen from ultra groups in the AL in the last 20 years?

Absolutely ZERO difference mate but as LFC puts it we all know how it gets reported by the APL shills when the trouble is between non franchise fans.

when ethnics do it, it's 10x worse in the media and sentencing.
Melbourne Victory fans only got 1 year stadium bans for their antics against Glover.
I've seen and heard of minor incidents that received more punishment than that.

you only have to compare how long it dragged on about the Cup final and SU the shills adding their 2bobs worth.
The fiasco down south as mentioned was farfar worse and should have imposed far more punishment.
IF that was a ethnic game
SU cops it from the shills no way in the NST blahblah - I don't condone that behaviour 100% but when the shoe is on the other foot the mud just doesn't stick as much.

We're the ones who do the leg work though. Outsiders just point at it then we take the baton and canibalise ourselves. We're even doing it now, right here. We're on the cusp on one of the most exciting moves in the code's history in Australia - the unification of our game. And everyone is looking at it through the lens of what some fans of one club did. I'm over it.

Let's talk about that grandstand proposal at BT Connor. If the council lives up to their end, what a fucking amazing asset for football! I am warming to Preston despite my initial misgivings - mainly that they were an NSL failure and spending their times outside the top 2 divisions in Victoria. But they're making the right noises. If they walk like they talk, the NSD will be something special.

I hate that title.

As it’s a natural progression of the NPL, adapting NPL into the naming would make sense. It’s not affiliated with the A-Leagues, so calling it A-Leagues 2/A-League 2/A2-League doesn’t make sense. Neither does [letter]-League.

Here are a handful of suggestions:

National Premier Championship (NPC)
National Premier Division (NPD)
National Championship League (NCL)
NP-League (Adopting the A-League naming format, though it’s not really different to the existing NPL)
Australian Football Premier League (AFPL - bit of a mouthful)
Football Australia League (FAL)
Football Australia Championship (FAC)
Australian Premier League Football (APLF)
Australian Football Championship (AFC - the irony of this acronym)
Australian Football Conference (AFC)
National Football Championship (NFC)
Australian National Football Championship (ANFC)
NPL Australia (NPLA)

If we consider that like the EFL (English Football League) is the tiers under the English Premier League, Australia uses NPL to distinguish the tiers below the A-League.

The name for the said league would then be NPL [division name].

I honestly can’t pick one. As soon as I think one sounds ok, I jump to a different one.

Thoughts?

As it’s a natural progression of the NPL, adapting NPL into the naming would make sense. It’s not affiliated with the A-Leagues, so calling it A-Leagues 2/A-League 2/A2-League doesn’t make sense. Neither does [letter]-League.

Here are a handful of suggestions:

National Premier Championship (NPC)
National Premier Division (NPD)
National Championship League (NCL)
NP-League (Adopting the A-League naming format, though it’s not really different to the existing NPL)
Australian Football Premier League (AFPL - bit of a mouthful)
Football Australia League (FAL)
Football Australia Championship (FAC)
Australian Premier League Football (APLF)
Australian Football Championship (AFC - the irony of this acronym)
Australian Football Conference (AFC)
National Football Championship (NFC)
Australian National Football Championship (ANFC)
NPL Australia (NPLA)

Why not just A2. Most of the names you listed there don't even make sense to be honest.
