I can see what the potential goal is: Saudi at some point entering a world super league. Something of a Saudi based team in a European super league. However, the original Saudi clubs would push back immensely. For now this is a great cleanout and it should see a lot of younger English players come in not to mention the jostling for Asian talent.

I read someone went from Austria or something tot he 2nd Saudi tier on 7.5M a year. In a way that is the scarier thing. Lower tier teams not being able to compete at all and then an abundance of poor deadwood/ underdeveloped youth plays ultimately leading to the quality going down. It's already evident in the Bundesliga with a lot of young French, Dutch and English that aren't really developed at the coast of a ore seasoned professional where the league 10-12 years ago had a real robust maturity about it.

Also, this will last a couple of years...but it's not going to take over. Because they suffer from the same thing china did - they are dogshit places

The likes of London, Paris, barcelona etc all have something in common - cosmopolitan places where people don't just move to play football, but take their families to live there long term etc. Half the players in saudi will go get their pay while their families probably live in Dubai or remain in europe something. It will never be a long-term viable option.

They are desperately trying not to be though....

That's the difference, I think, with China (and the MLS in some ways), they didn't/don't give a shit what the rest of the world thought of them, the Saudis do.

yeah but the reality is china is more progressive than Saudi. Can you imagine footballer's wives being footballer's wives in Saudi?

The Saudi's plans to improve their image will not come to fruition. That neom project is clearly going to be a complete unviable disaster. They're good at oil. That's it. They live in a fantasy land.

dont you have a house there....say hi to them for me......

if you think Saudi and China are the same you're crazy and just mis-guided...... multi-millionars and billionars go to places like middle east to 'holiday' it isnt like a over populated polluted poverty filled dive like China. [it is also a lot close to Europe then China]

Keep in mind 1.8bn muslims on the planet which would all want a muslim country to host a top league.....they also seem pretty happy to break the rules for the right profile ie Ronaldo and his misses are living together [not married]

im not some Saudi shill but there are LOADS of top pundits in Europe scared of the money the Saudi Arabians have ....and the truth is money talks. There is even talks about the Saudi league having clubs play in the Champions league - if that happens then boom

There is even some fears of the MLS as it is become a super financially successful league in its own right and could one day be a power house - which imho in 25 years it has only improved in quality, number of clubs, fan numbers and profits....

Saudi Arabia and the United States view football as a way to assert their political and financial influence globally.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia and America share a strong connection, particularly through economic partnerships like the Petro-Dollar system and links between Saudi PIF and Clearlake Capital. It's also worth noting that many hedge funds on Wall Street oversee significant investments on behalf of the Saudi Royal Family.

On the other hand, China's focus lies in exerting influence over Central Asia and Africa. They pursue this objective through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative.

Every country picks their poison. Saudi & the US are here to stay in my opinion.

This is all true, but it doesn’t mean they will have a long term viable league.

They can throw all the money they want at it, but so many factors come into making something successful like this - including things as far flung as urban planning.

Urban Planning is a pretty low bar for a nation with a bottomless pit of money and direct access to slave labour from 3rd world countries.

Saudi PIF owns Newcastle United, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal and indirectly has influence within Chelsea.

They are also considering buying a second European club and have aspirations of setting up a football group much like CFG or Red Bull.

This is FAR from going away anytime soon or being some sort of fling with football.

So how does that help their league?

I am not saying ther money or they will go from football, I am saying it is highly doubtful they will have a long-term well supported successful league.

Is everyone just going to stop supporting chelsea and newcastle in ten years and move to Riyadh and start supporting Al Jazeera FC because arabs bought their cluib? Its obviously all just a very expensive PR exercise

You miss my point, you need a population and organic growth to support clubs and their long term viabilty - urban planning shows that when things are not built for the people already there or are done with organic necessity they often fail.

Thye'd probably have as much success as paying real Madrid etc to just move to SAudi as they would of making theor own league good in ten years time

Where are the fans going to come from? Will people watch 1/4 full stadiums and be excited by it?

Looking at their attendance figures its worse than you think

Their top 3 clubs with stadiums with 60k capacity average 13 k, 15 k and 35K - the bottom ten clubs average less than 5k

The whole league averages 8k people - I cannot think of a league in the world that has such poor attendance and is a ratings sucess

The new generation football supporter does not give a shit about clubs.

They follow players. It's been this way ever since CR7 & Messi. I hate it but it's the way football is going.

Let's see how loyal players that are in their prime are when the money is on the table.

Sure, but are they going to still watch these players in empty stadiums - effectively at training grounds?

We'll know in the next few years.

Generally, if you use a noun/pronoun in a compound sentence, you don't need to mention it again unless the noun in subject changes. That's a pretty universal rule in most European languages Dav....

When have I ever supported that? Show where I have said people should wave LGBTQI flags? Or pushed it?
I said if you don't want politics - then don't include all politics ie - war. The biggest political attribution in football now. Politicians use it to rewrite history and get support for new wars.

It just shows you're full of shit when you say 'leave politics out of football'. You've repeatedly been shown to be full of shit here, for example, claiming qatar had no politics.

What you mean is leave out the politics you don't agree with. Deal with it.

It should actually read "I am loath to do" heheheheheh get your shit together. A grammar Nazi would recognise an adjective from a verb... hahahahha sorry slow week at work.

But doesn't that just mean reluctant, whereas how I put it means disgusted with the action?

Anyway, if that's incorrect usage 100% happy to admit it! I never correct grammar btw - as someone who is still to this day learning new languages, I never call out mistakes, unless it's a fool with a superiority complex.
