Gutsy win by Morocco. Korea ran out of ideas in the end, even though their tall strikers always looked likely to head in a cross or corner.

Such a disservice with the tournament not being on FTA. Optus are so engaged and it's great but it's a shame a lot of people may just watch a bit more by chance, particularly these games on Sunday evening.

That first Columbian goal was the goal of the tournament so far. Unreal skills to beat 2 players sitting right on her toes. And then to win it at the death in front of a full house with probably one third of them Columbian was something else. New Zealand out which is a shame.

Any neutral or non football fan would have loved that game. I've said it a few times it's just the catch 22 of allowing 7 to butcher t but at least show whereas Optus know their stuff and have put together a comprehensive team. My feed suggestions has recently seen some knob QLD AFL fan page just constantly sticking the boot in but they're worth ignoring. Still, the game in Sydney tonight would or could have converted a few more surely.

question johnszasz being your based abroad by the look of it talking about WWC coverage. The Qatar WC where your based from (Germany ?), was it on FTA as well as SKY or whoever won the rights ? As for Optus, never an argument from me, great football coverage been subscribing since they got the previous WC and obviously for the EPL. So so glad Columbia did the Germans, nothing like the Groats getting a kick in the guts men or women. I still find watching womens game quite clunky and difficult to watch but some of them have the football nouse, the young 18yr olds footwork/skill and shot into the far side netting was peach football work.......

We're going to the Ireland Nigeria game tonight. I reckon I couldn't watch the Matildas game on TV without exploding, so better to "relax" watching the other game.

Muz - I watched that game. sure atmosphere was good but for the ongoing screaming crowd that womens games have. Balin again like the young Colombian girls goal, nice highlights but overall watching clunky builds ups, gay abandon clearances to wherever - alot of miss hits amd some thinking g they can trick like CR7 makes for cringy viewing. yep kudos to some good play and nice goals. it’s still early days I guess re women’s football so the depth evolves but right now it’s still got a way to go all I’m saying. will be watching tonight obviously backing out team.

Ive been watching on Optus and the Germany v Columbia game would have been a great vehicle to the neutral person possibly wanting to know what all they hype is about... Instead the average non-football Melbournian is only interested in the games of the Matilda's, not many other results are discussed apart from a vague "oh I heard England played well" sort of way....

Know what you mean, but women - obviously through no fault of their own - just aren’t born with the same muscle mass/strength and pace that males have 🙁 and women haven’t had the same amount of years to develop as men have had playing pro football etc

It'll never be as good as the men's of course but it will get better. I can't understand how anyone could have watched that game last night and not be thrilled by it. The way that finished. If that had been a Hollywood movie you would have said 'too far fetched '.

What an atmosphere, what an ending
Up there with my top 3 ever football experiences. Helped that I was absolutely surrounded by hot Colombian women.

German public broadcaster got the rights but it wasn't after a fight. On a budget of 8.4 bn a, year, they didn't even want to fork out the measly 10m FIFA wanted. An agreement was made and all games are shown. The viewing numbers have been decent despite the time zone.

Japan Spain about to start. They're both through but they're playing for who meets who next round. Either Switzerland or Norway. Could their side of the draw be any easier? (Next match that is.)
