Wellington have signed Youstin Salas on loan from Deportivo Sarprissa. He was part of Costa Rica's 2022 World Cup squad.

He is half-Thai himself and counts as a local player there.

Hope that's untrue. Loans are a poor pathway for Aussies in Europe. The clubs they get loaned to have no financial stake in their development. Typically they return to the A-L after a few seasons. We've seen this movie numerous times, particularly in Germany.

Funny contradiction (not made by you yourself) that they do have a financial interest yet let the players continue being a depreciating asset.
