Roar in me Blood - 5 May 2024 6:06 PM
Good tough game for the first half.

City on top in general play and a deserved goal up. Victory a bit toothless in front of goal, but not out of it.

Clear kick out by Machach saw him rightly cop a red - but I think the player on the ground holding his face when the replays showed the boot went nowhere near his face also deserved a yellow. Can't stand that sort of cheating. Arzani tried a lower level of the same with several 'pained' shouts much earlier exaggerating the amount of pain. Ref has done a pretty good job of ignoring or punishing the theatrics. Yellow card for Arslan faking the amount of contact in the back to fall and grab the ball.

Tough game for the ref with a lot of niggle and nasty contact by both sides, but I think he is handling it well. Some legitimate stuff will be lost in the theatrics and some crap will be paid but so far a decent threshold being applied.

Hoping the second half continues the entertaining battle - and no reason to expect otherwise.

Arzani had his ankle stomped on in first 5 minutes and should have been yellow card. Ref wrongfully ignored it and that’s one reason King doesn’t ref in European league

Arzani had his ankle stomped on in first 5 minutes and should have been yellow card. Ref just ignored it

That was the one - he gave three pained shouts which I think actually counted against him. I am sure it hurt - but his reaction told the ref he was after his attention and punishment more than making genuine sounds of pain. I know pain is subjective but you don't hear people in the game going 'Ahh Ahhh Ahhhhh' unless they are doing it for attention. Same as the tosser who got kicked in the arm/chest by Machach rolled on the ground holding his face in two hands. Exaggerating the impact/injury to get your opponent an upgraded foul is a blight.

I felt him being stomped was a yellow card too. No question of that. My problem is theatrics and always has been so if it results in a missed foul/card then tough.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

They've already been named but could Gillet have been a chance for the Euros under the England flag?

City lost their heads a bit after the equaliser. I expect them to get their heads back on straight for extra time.

Tired legs and a man down offset by home game elimination final and pride.

Anyone's game.

Really hard game for Victory and they fought through it.

Paul Izzo was unbelievable, I think he made 10 saves in regular time plus the 3 in the penalty shootout one of the best GK displays ive seen in Oz football in quite a long time!

Victory go on and Melb City go out, to think they had 10 players for most of the game and didnt make the most of it probably shows Aurelio Vidmar's inability to see it out.

To think the Olyroos had both Vidmar's coaching the teams over the years, surely the national set up could better than them as they underperformed that age group.

Melb City should run it back with Kisnorbo unless if he wants a new challenge but he would be the right choice if they want a chance to go back to the top again.

Another thing whats it with teams struggling to play with 10 men in this league? Sydney last night was the exception but it see it alot in this league when teams are forced to have the ball with one extra player they struggled to create meaningful chances and put them away it's almost easier to play a team thats 11v11.

Sydney really struggled between the send off and half time. Talay's input at the break seemed to have got them lifting another gear.

He had his moment mid second half where he actually got in front of his marker, but headed over from the six yard box. Did the hard work getting there, but bottled the shot. Should have killed off the game with the goal at his mercy. But, yes, other than that one chance he wasn't there all game.

Not sure what was said at HT but it helped that Lolley hit that screamer and settled the nerves they had playing with 10 men.

I think the loss of a player these day is relatively insignificant.

A team just drops from two forwards to one and plays the same as they always did in structure and system - but because they are a man down they play with more intensity and desperation. They don't even have to fall back and park the bus - because they are only one attacker down and that player would rarely have gone back into the defensive line anyway. And yet they often do play more defensively making it that much harder to break them down than they may have been playing the full field with a full team.

The team with the man extra often holds a player back - thinking they are only really vulnerable to the fast break because their opponents are an attacker down - but they are just balancing the numbers in the rest of the field.

With 5 subs available, the team a man down can afford to run hard and half the team gets refreshed.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

So Mariners play in about 4 hours time, then travel half way across the globe, land back Wednesday, then play an away final on Friday night?

Surely this gets changed? I understand venue availability but thats beyond unfair for them. And they finished on top!

Play both matches on Sunday, or switch Mariners to the home team for the first leg and play next Monday night.

Roosters on Sunday at Allianz but I think a switch might be the best thing. Makes perfect sense as it's Magic Round up at Suncorp for the NRL.

Have to switch it.

Play it Sunday night at Gosford after the Victory/Nix game. Put both games on 10 Bold to open up the potential viewership numbers.

I genuinely think even Sydney FC would agree to it.

APLs up to their old tricks with this scheduling.

I'm really impressed with the turn out we got tonight active really made a lot of noise.

But I don't think they care about the club the chants are shite especially the one about musat who hasn't been at victory for years. Back on the wing for me next time.

The match was us to win but the subs we made were poor and poppa chose wisely to put bos against a slower Uga.

Next year we will probably be weaker because I can't see us funding stronger Aussies then good and maclaren.
