Switzerland score. Italian defence at sea. I want Australia to aspire to play with the organisation of the Swiss and the attacking vigour of the Netherlands. Austria have a good combination of that currently.

+xI think Italy manager is going to destroy his team at half time. They have been woeful. They have changed their national style to more a possession based game but their back 6 arent press resistant This is why they have struggled to make world cups. I reckon circati could have made their next world cup team since he is more press resistant than any of the players im seeing today!

Within a minute after the restart Switzerland lead 2:0 with a nicely taken goal and Italy just at walking pace. They'll have to go all out to claw back at this lead.

Germany Denmark interrupted due to lightning. Stadium roof design is terrible where waterfalls end up on the seats.

That was one very close offside by Denmark. I don't like calls that close for offside. I felt the defenders arm was out a good degree. Tough calls but had they not been made you'd have the football media dragging Oliver through the dirt then.

Swiss were damn brilliant like a machine but they played a sub standard Italy that were terrible - Spaletti making 6 starting changes was evident within the first 20mins or so. Congrats Swiss well played.

I wasn't surprised that the Swiss beat Italy they look like a quality side and were the better team today, they could even cause England some problems assuming they beat Slovakia with little dramas because the Swiss play like a typical timed watch where every passing move is synced almost to perfection and England have to be at their best to beat them.
@LFC your right this Italian team doesn't have the best quality to challenge the top teams which makes their 2020/2021 Euro triumph even more impressive, but they will rebuild and they will be back again.
Talk about fine margins, how crucial was the disallowed goal taken decided but a boot size? Talk about a sliding doors moment for the Danes and then the same defender concedes a penalty very shortly but the Germans were too strong in the end although Havertz is not a striker, he missed so many opportunities.
If Spain beat Georgia which wont be easy match for them but if they beat them it will set up a potential classic between Germany and Spain, I feel who ever wins that might go to the final so it could that penultimate match for the whole tournament if they take their strong form to the rest of the tournament which they have shown so far.

What are peoples thoughts on penalty takers stutter run ups? I reckon once you've come to a complete stop mid step it should be retaken. I'm not sure the rule but gets let go alot. The Havertz one was a shocker.

The Havertz one was a shocker. The official rule is that you cannot fake the kick itself (and I believe once you start the run-up, you can't restart it). I swear I had been initially taught that you can slow your run-up, but not completely stop it (which is not exactly correct once I got some more experience and read things through), but personally, I think that's how it should be. If goalkeepers aren't allowed to be Greg Page back-ups, then kickers shouldn't be allowed to stutter either.

Italy absolutely outplayed - Wasted a good nights sleep on that match.
Overall - could say it's a pass-mark for Italy (as I didn't expect them to finish top 2), but still a lot of rebuilding to do. Italy in the past has had a solid backline (including the maestro in the midfield) and goals being able to be found around the team - with no stand out striker (I guess usually playing more of a holding role). This is the first tournament without Chiellini, Bonucci, et al + I feel like Scamacca runs around like a bit of a headless chook. Once the defence and midfield have more experience, and they find a suitable replacement for Scamacca, then Italy will be up there again. Maybe this is why Volpato is still holding out..

Hope they dont pinch him What does press resistant mean? If you have press resistant players then they can work their way through a high press consistently. It usually means being comfortable when players are running at you and you have the ball at your feet You need a good first touch, be able to glance around before recieving the ball, beat a player sprinting at you with your first touch, be able to use both side of both feet to pass in any direction and have a good long pass. Also comfortable carrying the bal 20 meters or so if players drop off if you are a defensive midfielder you need to be able to turn with your first touch. What that usually looks like is you have your back to the opposition goal, your first touch is soft enough so the ball continues a foot or so past you. Then when you turn it is right there for your other foot.

Italy looked absolutely hopeless in that game. Completely disinterested. Glad they lost. Thought they might pull something out of their arse but sanity prevailed. Swiss well deserved winners. The contrast in pace and competitiveness between that game and the Germany Denmark game was stark.

The Havertz one was a shocker. It's bullshit. They already score 75% or so and now GKs have to stand still or on the same spot, no wiggle action, and the kicker can almost do whatever the fuck he wants. I'd ban stuttered run ups tomorrow. To answer your question though, they're allowed providing you don't stop at the end of your run up.

bellingham scores with a bycicle in the last kick of injury time
kane scores off some in the box chaos immediately after.
slovakia must be tired conceding all that possession, doubt they can get back into it but you never know...

before the goal the german commentators said that england were more conservative than the tories haha
they look technically perfect when they do really simple plays, but only are willing to try really simple plays. No take ons, no one is effective if they recieve the ball with poor body shape....really really really conservative
in the end they are defending well and are professional albeit painful to watch and they should go through to the quarters

Just another crazy football turnaround. England were dire and late good fortune and now look at them. Game against Switzerland is a whole new ball game and whether Southgate can plan accordingly is doubtful.

not sure if it is a tactic for them to play so simple compared to other euro teams, or if they just have a limited skillset (except bellingham who occasionally tries something)

Maybe this is why Volpato is still holding out.. yes mate it was woeful viewing...... Scamacca been useless whole tournament and doesn't deserve being picked for a long time if ever. Worse our midfield - Berella was ineffective with all his experience and Chiesa has gone backwards last couple of seasons from the high times of '20 Euro. Very flat performance but also Spalletti totally screwed up selections that game. How many lives the 3Lions have, yes play ordinary and win is great but seriously more lame football from these guys. Maybe southgate is smarter than we see haha, don't show any more than what is needed :) I hope the Swiss play to the standards they did vs Azzuri for surely you expect them to handle 3Lions for the win. Kudos Georgia what a way to go 1up - was always going to be that bridge too hard to climb, Spain are the team to beat atm, hope they haven't hit their peak yet but they are looking the goods. Atmosphere was epic.
