Oh it's Verbruggen in goal. Good luck with that. He has to shuffle right there for the near post and the camera angles show how evil his movement to the right van come back to bite. Poor poor set play defence from Netherlands there.
The weight off Poland's shoulders when the Lewandowski replacement scores so early in a tournament.

Look how quickly Netherlands get forward. One man can work fine with 3 white shirts nearby. Hope Arnold is watching because the quick decisions and distribution of Robertson and O'Neill to our swift front 3 can emulate this.

+x+xIt is interesting comparing 2nd teir nations like poland, croatia, albania scotland and the netherlands to the sides 10 or 20 years ago. Every 2nd teir team looks weaker on paper The competition for spots in the big 5 leagues has gone insane Back then you mean? We faced a fairly poor Croatia in 06. Poland were infamous for crashing out and kind of still are. Italian and French clubs like Polish players and Italy have a Balkan festish while for Germany it's Japan. I mean count the minutes in the big 5 today v then for the respective starting xis in the season leading up to the tournament. There has been a big drop. Ill put numbers on it later this week if i get time

Definitely have some concerns for their midfield but the Dutch are playing well.
Poland are doing well too.

Close one, the Dutch did well to win that I don’t think Poland will be an easy opponent for France or Austria whatsoever with Lewandowski to come back.

Serbia with more possession to end the half. Early England goal and one other good chance.
Denmark Slovenia draw was a battle. Slovenia fought well and got down the end a lot near the end.

England look like at an individual level to be technically superior to their teams of yesteryear but they played a very traditional style
A lot of passes in front of the lines followed by a long ball dowb the center of the pitch
The pivot did a good job opebing a passing lanes in the red zone (between the 1st and 2nd lines of a press) but they were weirdly allergic to going through the middle with the ball on the deck, overrelying on going aroubd them or over them
Jude bellingham is a real tecnician who can turn with his first touvh and does not need to be facing forward when recieving to be effecitve, yet zone 14 seemed to be pagans paddock and they were over reliant on the wibgs and crosses into the box
You dont even have to score through passes through the middle, if you at least threaten, defenses overcompensate and that creates space out wide if you can recieve the ball between the two rows of four and threaten with a pass or shot
Again despite having bellingham england seem intent on trying to go around the opposition
I hate to say it, but i doubt england win the tournament despite having a lot of impressive players

I think 3Lions look better than previous years is Southgate influence of them playing together whereas the promising squads of before had individuals as good imo technically but didn't link well, the Southgate tenure has squashed the inter club rivalry of the past..... Not surprised long approach now and then being Kane the target. I think you got to hand it to the Serbs restricting going through the middle, I was most impressed the Serbs press/force of error on top of the usual aggression. That really pushed the 3Lions finding opennings that then got shut down. IMO Rice was not effective enough at all nor was Saka and Foden, they were shut down very quick/had to turn back and fight retaining the ball. Bellingham is their outlier at such a young age, brilliant player and he also couldn't put as much influence as he normally can. That relys on dominance that the Lions struggled to maintain. Kudos they got the goal and hung on imo, I thought the Serbs deserved the equaliser and they would think the same. Couple of great GK saves either end. The game stats are very close having looked. Games to date even though just 1st games they didn't impress like the Oranje/Poles/Spain/Italy/germans but early days and last 2 groups yet to koff. Been enjoying the football thats for sure.

+xSomething like 19 of Albania’s squad were not even born in Albania. What a joke.
Look at their fans. All diehard Albanians but none of them want to live there 😂🤦♂️ Not much different to foreigners, or people actually born in Australia, TBF.

Such a bizarre game to watch... that England team is dripping in top class quality but they look like they've barely played together at times. Foden is half the player he is at city.. I can see why Pep says he needs to be smarter with his decision making. They looked pretty good for 15-20 mins and then the normal England of just sitting back and taking the foot off the gas after going 1-0 up. Should of been 4 or 5-0.
The Serb's kinda had a go even with 5 at the back Vlahovic and Mitrovic up front were causing issues.

Not sure of Albania's heritage but probably similar, agree 19 is alot so all power to them tsf they prob wouldn't be as competitive without them.

I said this before the start of the tournament but the key for England isn't there players whom some are undeniably world class, the key for England in trying to win this tournament will be their coach Gareth Southgate.
This morning was an good example of why i'm skeptical they could do it, he's coaching will be the key if they have a shot in winning it but this morning how they got outplayed by Serbia is not a good sign when they go against stronger sides (no disrespect to Serbia when I say this too but the quality will go up a notch or two later in the tournament) but it was too reactive and allowed Serbia too much space and time on the ball and there lucky they didn't hurt them.
This tournament is Southgate's moment and he got to coach he's backside off, and if they fall short then I would put the blame on him as the playing talent is some of the best in Europe, you have to question if England have a decent coach in their ranks that could perform better on a international level otherwise they might need to go foreign again which is no guarantee for success.
England's media have been at times very harsh on their players especially Saka, but less noise on Southgate so it will be interesting to see the media discourse this tournament but this is he's moment if England can win it.

+xWon't happen as we have gold as the light colour for home but imagine if we got the Dutch away kit pattern in white with shades of green? Something different at least. We have navy and turquoise now. Could easy copy the orange bits in turquoise for Australia here. Really liked the Navy and gold for 2014 Q and tournament proper. Interestingly we had an era of navy gold then went to greens back to navy. Would make a good warm up shirt though. Usually I look to the patterns of the Netherlands kits when applying "fantasy" templates to our colours when there's a new release. Changing the away kit pattern on the Dutch shirt to gold/white could also work.

His selection/selecting has 2 possible flaws with such a talented overall squad....... Put Bellingham (Mr Outlier) aside for already @ 20 he's proved he brings his A game to big games, just wow. Southgate has picked a pretty young midfield with no obvious 6, well Rice could be that but I don't think he's up to it, he was lacking against the Serbs. 2, Saka, no care what their media carry on with BUT he doesn't produce the club form enough when in the NT imo. 3, Southgate knowing what to expect from the aggressive physical Serbs Saka again doesn't perform under these conditions well enough again my opinion and observations. Gordon for eg would have muscled up and created more havoc - putting Bowen on another more grafter type of aggressive runner ran the line better, provided Kane with a peach of a cross that shouuld have been a assist and goal. Rice is the eldest midfielder @ 25. Mainoo 19 rest in between - that most are forward attacking type of players. Up against some ol wily foxs and others who are very NT experienced. Denmark next who have a vastly experienced MF and backline - will be fascinating viewing.
