That guy had played at russian secod division all his life. Jelic has played the dutch top division and also dominated in the CSL, a very similar league to the A-league. I cant see Jelic failing like Mate did.

One every other game is fair for a striker, but maybe not an ex first division international. I think he needs to replicate his CSL form, of a goal every 1.4 games, or 20 goals to be reasonable! Dadi last year got 10 from 16 games but with his limited game time and only starting in 13 games it worked out about a goal every 1.3 games. If Jelic beats that, then he'd be looking at 23 goals. \:d/ So I think anything less than that and I'll be disappointed. Edited by hotrod: 29/6/2009 11:13:46 AM

im thinking sterjovski will more than likely play more in the midfield than a striking role. than way he can have more influence on the game and get more touches. banko and dadi are far too good to leave one of them on the bench. i don't think sterj will have more than 10 goals for the season as a result.

Mitchell has said he wants to play him (and that Sterj wants to play) in a central striking position. So that's where I think we'll see him. Dadi to start from the bench and fight Jelic for the other position.

yeh ... mitchell has said that ... a central striking role for mile.
i think from his days coaching mile back in the NSL he used him and a striker and dominated. Also his current form with the socceroos suggests his definitely got a good eye for goal.
I really dont want to leave either dadi or jelic on the bench though .... my personal opinion ... i rekon dadi and jelic deep up front with sterj sitting centrally just behind them, then burns more like a defensive mid.

I am worried about the lack of friendies and training session with all the key players together. Mitchell has been jet setting around and the result has been good quality signings. But he now really should focus on training sessions and friendlies with all his players. We have big friendlies coming up but we should start with easy teams to build up confidence and a style of play. Sydney FC has been doing everything correct. I think they will be in the top 2 even though they don't have any new big signings. They will hit the ground running on game 1. While we will probably stutter along for the first 5-10 games before we pick up. Just like last year! Please someone tell me I am wrong and reassure me!

I am sure between july 15 (last of the EPL friendlies) and August 7 (round 1) we will have games against state league opposition and also probably against the wa state team.

Yeah, I've contacted the club about the "empty" two weeks before the first game. We'll see what comes of that. Apparently Scotty Bulloch was down at ECU v Sorrento on the weekend, didn't see him there myself though. Was too busy watching the council workers smash Joondalup :(

knowing how fragile our players have been in the past two weeks rest before the season starts is probably not a bad thing. looking forward to both trips south for preseason should be good fun!

remember we are going on a two week road trip at the start of the season. So two weeks without any big friendlies probably is the best thing. I'm pretty sure dave will organise a small friendly against like a state league side on a tuesday night to warmup for the first game against adelaide.

Oh btw for the guys not on GBs:
At the moment the EPL games wont be broadcasted on TV, according to Sage. He reckons Fox, who get the first dibs on broadcasting football in Australia, took ages to say no and there isn't much time to get another deal done with another broadcaster...
I think Southern3 wanted me to find this out from memory....
