Woodcock was more highly rated than Davies I think, and Davies has done pretty well.
Worried about Gallas, his calf has played up a lot in recent times (esp 2nd yr at Spurs) and not sure how much we'll get from him. From the highlights, seems that Thwaite's poor (reaction) clearance set up the first goal and the CB's were all at sea for the second (although we would have been ok if we'd had a left back). Harsh for us - hope we can keep picking up points whilst we adjust and develop.

We seemed so much more confident when he was on the field. 2 minutes after he was subbed we conceded and we just lost all confidence. And Pantelidis...jesus. Going to be tough for us.

Edited by Eastern Glory: 24/11/2013 10:39:38 PM That's a bit of a worry. I thought he'd come back to training and reinjured it, and now he's come back to the NYL and reinjured it. Unfortunately caught out with injuries yesterday, but still dumbfounded by 2 ref decisions: 1) How does Sidnei get a yellow card for a clear body check in the box. Bizarre. 2) And we have CCM get a free, retaliate by kicking out at Glory - getting a yellow - then still being able to take the free. How does that work? In fact much of the game was marred by the Sydney mentality of getting touched and falling over and the ref being sucked in and giving them the free. A couple of times CCM tried to flatten Gallas, he kept his feet both times, and promptly had frees given against him.

Official report sez he's injured his right ankle, whereas the previous injuries were to his left ankle. Hope its just bad luck, rather than a weak spot in his body.

When play stops after the whistle, you can sanction incidents with cards, but not free kicks. In otherworsd, the CCM player could have stood up, taken his boots off and beat Burns about the head with them, gotten sent off and play would still restart in the same fashion; with the DFK that was awarded when play was stopped.

i was saying to my mate the other night we play far too predictable distributing out to the wings and whipping it in for a cross. with harold on the bench would it not make sense to perhaps start sidnei at AM to run directly at the defense and put harold out wide? it would just give us more options than what we are currently going with

So it looks like we have Woodcock as another young starter, this time on the other side. Preseason he was meant to be better than Davies so hopefully since Davies has done ok Woodcock can too, especially with some nyl form. Clisby is a left footer isn't he? He can probably cover the LB as needed but perhaps it's a good time to get someone in on injury cover, presuming there's a decent fullback available somewhere.

Welcome to what we were having last season and a bit at the start of this season. The whole squad is completely star struck with the marquee. Whens hes on the pitch they feel invincible. When hes off the pitch they feel completely exposed.
Yeah it's an interesting mentality, like they forget they can play without them. Hopefully it only lasts one week at Glory :P

Youth League match report seemed to be talking up O'Neill as the likely replacement for Jamieson?

Seems more likely Ali will play someone being trained as a LB. I'd prefer to see Woodcock given a chance. And have O'Neil or Clisby instead of Pantilidis as the CB with Thwaite. An injury replacement would be good. Maybe a LB or another defender if it's necessary but another midfielder like Miller/Cordoba would be good.

O'Neill? No thanks, we don't need another player turning into a Jamie Coyne.

Having played with riley Woodcock in Under 11's, he's got a fantastic left foot, very quick and incredibly skillful, very good at taking players on. TBF, this was 8 years ago :P But I've heard he's been playing well in the Youth League, so best of luck to him.

Thanks for the explanation. Me grew up with too much gAyFL to know this stuff. Had to go hunting the rules also to explain why Harold is a sub on the bench, but couldn't come on - but understand it now.

Right now he's a DM/CB utility who (hopefully) will eventually find his preferred position (ala Milligan or Thwaite) How's this for a message from the footballing gods? Jamo goes down and Carney gets released! Despite being shit for the Socceroos, we need LB cover, he's available and as an injury replacement would take up Jamo's position in the salary cup. Glory hold the chips there, just offer him less salary then Jamo, he should be happy to sign on that. As for playing, ofc you give Woodcock first crack, perhaps 2 games, and his game will benefit from competing and learning from Carney, not to mention Jamo on the sidelines! And as an IR contract, he can piss off next year when Jamieson is fit. Sounds win-win to me :D

That rod went into space AND had a parade afterwards.

I am fast losing patience with this regulation that a referee's decision to caution instead of send-off or apply no further sanction excludes an incident from the MRP's jurisdiction.
Burns gets 2 weeks, Hutcho nothing because he was cautioned!
FFS, CCM got so lucky with the ref in that match it is staggering.

Burns was a fucking idiot for stepping on his ankle in the first place...but apparently that's way worse than lashing out and trying to kick someone. Both deserve equal length bans IMO. Both were grubs, and yet only one is punished?

Agree with Burns' suspension, but it is utterly farcical that Hutchinson and the Mariners get away with a flagrant red card offence because the referee, officiating in our highest professional league, incorrectly interpreted the rules.
Not to mention that the tempers being at boiling point were a result of said referee consistently failing to deal with the Mariners tactics of brute physicality to unsettle Perth's young players. Several horrible, cynical fouls went without caution, leading to an incident where Burns snapped and cleaned up a Mariner (Simon I think?) who had just done the same to Cam Edwards. The ref still did nothing. Of course when the game gets that heated and the referee has demonstrated a rank inability to assert control it will eventually culminate in what we saw between Burns and Hutchinson.
But of course, Burns is the only thug and we are just whining West Australians who play hoofball.
