A Arnold coached team with Burns nowhere in site would definitely get me excited in next season.
CCM didn't play an attractive style of football under GA, which is perfect for Glory but it was good, it was effective and Arnie got the most out of his players and created an actual positive club culture - which is one of the most important things this team needs and he would be perfect and breaking the Sage's Mates Club. No one better to do that in Aus at the moment except the National Team coach.
Also, anyone optimistic that the State Government will actually help and foot some money for the Macron tournament?

bovs wrote:The positions Glory needs to fill and players to needed to be moved on, retained or chased as new signings is completely dependent on the new coach.
If... for example... it was going to be Kenny Lowe's team, you'd expect a defend-and-counter style of play, in which case 2 goalscorers up front and some quick attacking midfielders will be crucial. You would also need a second solid defensive midfielder next to Griffiths in the team.
If... however... we got an equivalent of Gombau trying to introduce a short passing style, we would basically need a brand new midfield full of players with excellent technical skills.
Since Glory have had so long to find their coach (and if they were realistic would've considered Lowe only a token candidate as long as 2 months ago) they really have missed the boat in terms of giving the new coach time to find available players that *he* wants and luring them over to Perth before they get snapped up elsewhere. Gombau didn't really revolutionise the team's playing squad. He brought in Cirio and Sanchez to positive effect but Elrich was recycled and Zullo a loanee. Carrusca and Ferreria (top 2 this season, imo) were already at the club and likewise most of their defence. So I don't think the core group of 5-6 signings on need is going to differ hugely between coaches but definitely what is need in squad rotation will be.

I can't believe some pple don't want Arnie. 3yrs @ CCM premiers plate, champions, 2X GF probably should of been 3. All working within one of, if not the lowest budget in the league. He's proven, he gives youth a go. What more could glory fans want. Style of play doesn't matter for most fans if we r winning.

If you're going a domestic product, then it's hard to go past Arnie. Wonder how much he'll ask to be paid, and if we'll balk at that? No doubt it would be more than Lowe, Edwards, Fergie, Mitchell based on his record alone?

I wonder if Arnie even applied for the job given his Japan appointment. And presumably our final 6 wouldn't have included him, nor our final 3 which was to be finalised right now. Suddenly the club wants him.

I must admit, its my overall dislike for Arnie that makes me not want him more than the footballing reasons. I will find that hard to shake. We'll see whether I'll have to try or not - wouldn't expect Arnie to go for Perth, unless Vuka has talked him into it.

Yeah I'm in the same boat with some of the previous comments, don't really like Arnie but more because of his attitude, but his probably the best Australian coach available at the moment and we would be crazy to not at least consider him, he gets results which is the most important thing

I'd be somewhat disappointed if after a 4 month process to find the new coach, the candidate that the club has come up with was so obviously inferior to Arnold that it was worth throwing the process out the window to appoint him.
Then again, it's Perth Glory so I'd expect to be disappointed.
The best candidates Glory have come up with through their process *should* be at least as good if not better than Arnold. Even if it comes down to affordability, I think Arnold would command something close to top dollar for an A-League coach... so why would the club not spend the money on a vetted foreign candidate?

Well bugger me, who would have guessed that result ...
Racial and/or ethnic abuse - FFA Disciplinary Committee hands down its determination
The independent FFA Disciplinary Committee today handed down its determination in the matter involving an incident arising out of the Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers match on Saturday 8 March 2014.
The Disciplinary Committee consisting of John Marshall SC (Chair), Lachlan Gyles SC and Dominic Longo had been convened to hear an allegation of racial and/or ethnic abuse against Wanderers player Brendon Santalab following a complaint by Sydney FC player Ali Abbas.
The Committee dealt with matter over two lengthy hearings and reserved its determination.
The Committee has determined the following:
1. That Brendon Santalab accepted that Ali Abbas genuinely believed that the offensive word had been used and did not challenge the fact that Ali Abbas believed he had been the subject of racial abuse. 2. The credit of Ali Abbas was not under challenge. 3. Having regard to the circumstances surrounding the incident particularly the undisputed high noise levels and in the absence of other eyewitness or corroborative evidence, it was possible that Ali Abbas may have misheard what was said by Brendon Santalab. 4. Therefore the Committee was not satisfied to the necessary standard of proof that the offending words were used by Brendon Santalab and dismissed the matter.

Agreed. After another of our worldwide searches finding many highly credentials individuals, suddenly Arnie can guzzump everyone. The plus side is that like him or not, Arnie (i) gets results; and (ii) does so while selling his best young talents part way through each season. Glory will have done 1/2 his job already, so he'd just have to concentrate on getting results.

I don't think any Perth fan should be disappointed if GA is signed. He's one of the most successful managers around and would do a lot to improve the Glory.

(Forget the broadcast issues, but ...)
Worth mentioning again how much better this final round would be if all 5 matches were played simultaneously, or even all at the same time.
FFA trumpeting how great all the matches are, Sydney could finish 2nd, or miss the finals altogether, spots 2 to 7 all undecided, and I guess 8 to 10 also. So many options - What if Newcastle have a good win tonight to get into the 6, and then Glory avoid the wooden spoon with tomorrow's results. Then Newcastle would be unamused to see Sydney play a very limp Glory on Sunday to reclaim their final spot. Anyway, the fixturing will never change.
A guy at work asked if there was any benefits if you finished with the wooden spoon? (raised on AFL) I could only come up with, "yeah, in the Australian system you don't get relegated".

In the Glory interested in Arnold article: Joffa wrote: Caretaker Kenny Lowe, and two foreign coaches, have been competing for the job .
Kenny Lowe, the best Aussie coach to manage Glory? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) As Hottie has said, his odds have shortened again. I really hope they go after Arnold now full gusto. Don't know who their other candidates are but nothing in their search so far instils me with any new found confidence in the Glory regime or that they are capable of getting it right. Arnold has now fell in their laps so to speak, so they definitely need to go after him. Arnold >>>>>>>> Lowe

The irony if Arnold coaches Glory is Arnold was behind playing Topor Stanley at left back, and Perth Glory hired Topor STanley as a left back stuffing up their seasons.. Then Arnold even recommended him to Verbeek as a left back, Verbeek said Arnold has told him about a great player.
