Agreed GloryB, polished performance. That's why the reckless send-off soo disappointing. But again, good to see the side soo strong to handle it well, till those final couple minutes when probably tiredness/dropping concentration levels kicked in (Burns' chance).

BTW On the send-off discussion - going by the footage, Zadko's challenge was a two-footed lunge, studs raised - can't get too much worse than that. AFAIK that's a technical straight red, send-off. You just CAN'T have your studs raised like that, not these days, not in the A-League anyway!

Andy Todd's Elbows, F1Dave, Bovs, GloryPerth etc......

Just goes to show how many 'Glory fans' prefer them to be losing than winning.

Gee we all fit into this neat basket of yours, do we? F1 and Bovs actually haven't been about FFT for, it seems a good couple of years now. I presume 'real life' caught up with them - both, especially Dave, were contributors to the now extinct Perth Glory Blog for FFT - Dave did it for quite a while, rain, hail or shine - most of this before you signed up here, it seems. ATE registered years before you too and was about till very recently. AFAIK He's based in the SW of the state, so is a distance fan - maybe his dodgy regional net cut-out? :p

I may not be a regular in this thread and maybe a little on the 'dispassionate' side, also being an A-League fan in general, as too chiefly Socceroos. My critiques are usually in the constructive vein and with a view to improving things - which pleasingly, in some of those areas, they have! And evidently, I'm most certainly still here for the cheers and like many of us, we cheer even more to see the happy days. Even despite the Edwards controversy, I think the trend has been up for the past couple seasons and we see the fruits now. If anything I'm following Glory now, more closely than ever! I'm guess that technically makes me some degree of 'fairweather fan' but I only got on-board relatively late A-League era anyway, was never around, that engaged, before that.

I bow to our superior, Begbie - oh wise one, there through thick and thin. :)

a quick check shows that F1Dave an Bovs have been logged in as recently as mid June and not the 2 years that you seem to believe.

ATE had no trouble with his internet connection until Glory started winning, strange that.

^ Gee you're kidding me. I haven't literally seen them about since, well, Edwards was appointed interim or some such - memory may fail. Remember Dave and the Faceless Bigots stuff coming from Fergie, late in his reign. :/ Anyway, they don't seem to post much, so may not have so much free time. Dave a young man too (A few of us are :p), so life may've become busier. That's natural.

Dave had a blog about Glory and was writing about them, when, tbh, there wasn't too much to get excited about - this circa 2008-2012-ish is when they had those FFT Blogs, a blogger for each club, which they've since discontinued. So I wouldn't snipe too hard for those not here to defend themselves - I vaguely remember that era and it indeed wasn't much fun from one issue to another - hence all the critiques and bemoaning from Glory fans and the introspection from blogs like Dave's. Only natural when things not going well and they haven't gone well for Glory in the A-League till circa the GF run under Fergie in 2012 and, well, this season? :-k

And see Biscuitman's rather cheeky and somewhat amusing sig about it - we conditioned to be a miserable lot for quite a while - some recent success takes some getting used to! Some of us can be suspicious of false dawns too, but certainly this season is very promising on many fronts, no doubt. Perhaps the strongest and most balanced Glory squad since they've been in the A-League!

And there lies the true worth of these people. Under the guise of Glory fans they berate the owner the ceo the coach the players, offer all sorts of advice on how Glory cannot flourish untill owner, CEO, coach and players have gone. We are top of the league and they are nowhere to be seen. They manage to post 3-4 times a day when we lose games but vanish into thin air when everything the predict doesn't happen.

The club are better off with out them.

Turn it up Begbie. Everyone was (rightly) p***ed off with years of mismanagement. The fact that Kenny has managed to do so well so quickly is great, but it doesn't mean that most of what was said wasn't correct.

I don't think so.

Clubs become better with hardened critics. I'd rather that and have them on notice when not performing than crossing your fingers, hoping that things will be different the next time and lapping up all the lip service of the CEO/coach.

I am an original '96er. After the trials and tribulations of the NSL I have had to put up with 8 out of 9 seasons of soul destroying stuff. The 2012 GF and this season so far are the only highlights.

I will always be a PG supporter. If that means being critical when they are down and gleeful when they are up, so be it.

Don't expect all supporters to support their club in the same way.

I'm sorry that the likes of say me and others don't fit the "ra, ra, everything is awesome" all the time style of support.

Different things for different people.

Yeah, fuck right off Begbie. What the club doesn't need are fans who belittle, devalue and mock fans who have/had the gall to voice their frustrations at recycled failed processes. Frustrations borne out of a desire for the club to improve. It's healthy to constructively debate these ideas should you disagree, but not to engage in ad hominem attacks on those who hold contrary beliefs. It is especially poor form to do this when they aren't around.

I have been a vocal critic of the management of Glory from the top down, and yet rather than bitter as you suggest I am thrilled that they are on top of the table and getting results. But a broken clock is still right twice a day, as they say, and it still sits poorly with me that we arrived where we are by following a model that has consistently failed for season after season. It is far too soon to claim that things are rosy.

I think you will find those you list are absent not because Glory are doing well and they have nothing to complain about, but because Glory did so badly for so long without changing their philosophy and that degraded their passion to be engaged, especially when they are lambasted for their beliefs by smug apologists like yourself.

And, for the record, my personal reason for not posting here now has absolutely nothing to do with Glory. In fact, Glory is the only reason I still lurk. Hard as it is to believe, we all fucking love this club and want it to succeed. The real reason I don't post on these forums is because I got tired of the infantile hyper-masculine culture (particularly in ET), especially with regards to the attitudes towards women held by many posters here. I was away for a month and realised I had no desire to come back to engaging in that.

Maybe they are happy Glory are winning and don't need to complain???

Thought about that??

Complain when losing, say nothing when winning??? Seems logical.

Lmfao. Trolls going troll.

You'd think top of the table some people would have something to talk about other than other posters. Bit obsessive isn't it?

Anyway, I can't watch football on the weekend, so I'm not here (or around football news in general )often now, especially when trying to avoid spoilers.
Will have more time when it's holidays for all the pithiness.

hahaha

welcome back

'not around football news in general' eh, no worries I'll fill you in.

everything you predicted has come true.

Tony sage has gone bankrupt and FFA are now in control

Jason Brewer got sacked because he was one of the boys

Kenny lost the first 6 games and was sacked

Jacob Burns is now player/captain/coach

we are trailing badly in the league

went out in round 1 of the FFA Cup

Youth team have taken a turn for the worst after Miller and Naven were sacked

Just as you predicted mate, I doff my hat to you.

It may be fair to say too that results can gloss over flaws and it wasn't long ago we were still discussing ways in-which Glory need to and can, improve their lot. Half of that is on-field and they seem to be doing that now. Bureaucracy has improved somewhat, it seems, but ofcourse things never stand still and the impressive gains over East with comparable clubs/markets like Adelaide, Brisbane etc... should again help set the bar for a club like Glory to aspire, let alone their own bar of history, the Glory Days (Even if they built on free tickets via a fast food chain, slanted squads of NSL stars and new fad syndrome). So to be fair to the A-League version of Glory, they've always had that burden of expectation/history that makes them unique among most A-League clubs, even AU and NUJ.

But again, a good run of results then like Roar, AU and co too, that will foster the positive, feel good vibe that may be needed to facilitate growth elsewhere. Everybody likes a winner and Lowe, Sage and co openly acknowledge that too, saying Perth fans expect success and like a winner. The 'Glory Days' period was also a time when Glory were an aspiring, Top 4 to GF challenging team too. So a simple equation when it comes down to it.

Sage has invested alot over the years, for not great ROI, but it must be said it's pleasing for him too that he's finally being rewarded on the field too - on the field no fluke, given the strong and well balanced squad assembled via Lowe, financed by he (And A-L TV Money). With so many imbalanced squads, overpaid, peaked talents etc... we were often let down, but as Lowe has remarked, good work in off/pre-season has assembled a squad that has competition for places and depth to cover for the kinds of injury crisis' and drops in form that Glory have suffered from in the past.

ATE can be fair-minded and has provided some interesting observations, with the NT too, but I think he, like a few of us, was affected by growing disappointment and false dawns over the years. The club and Sage have tested and even befuddled fans at times, including as recently as the Edwards saga and the whole ludicrous coaching selection odyssey to settle on the pre-selected Lowe.

Edit: Welcome back ATE! :)

The real reason I don't post on these forums is because I got tired of the infantile hyper-masculine culture (particularly in ET), especially with regards to the attitudes towards women held by many posters here. I was away for a month and realised I had no desire to come back to engaging in that.

Sadly that can be typical of male dominated, internet forums. FTR I have rarely ventured far from the AF section of this site, but can't imagine it'd be too much worse than some places elsewhere - infact I'm sure elsewhere, standards might be even lower. FTR You aren't alone in the reason-minded majority, I'm sure, but just like the side-discussion we've had, I think most of us are just a bit too busy to post even generally, let alone bother with such things. Pre-pubescence or pre-pubescent talk can account for whatever evidence of this I've seen in AF - usually the same types who are known to sprout 'gems of wisdom' generally. I suppose what you moan about ties to what many do in wider terms, about the varying quality of discussion generally.

I think come the Asian Cup and 2018 World Cup Qualifying etc... there may hopefully be a new wave of posters and interest.

"Sing when you're winning"

"Hurt the ones you love the most"

Alot of old phrases, idioms etc... that can be applicable either way, currently. People have already expressed why people/fans even cared to be soo introspective and critical of the club - because they care to be.

The very fact we're even here, posting in the PG Supporters Thread, related threads, shows we care enough to share that care about these clubs we support to varying degrees. No matter if it good or bad, we've still disseminated 'Brand Glory' and with the good news now, there may be hopefully 'more of us' to share it and spread that gospel, so to speak.

Poor decision by Lowe today.

Mclaren would have made a huge difference running at roars defense.
I know the boys were knackered but the Game could have been finished early.

This. Weird subs. Maclarren was showing good form off the bench and scored for the olyroos. Why use all those 3 subs ahead of Maclarren :-k? Also surprised to see Harold on the bench instead of Sidnei. Hoping he would be coming back from
Injury off the bench.

Nichols was sluggish.

Also I have been harsh on Hersi but we were absolutely toothless after he picked up the injury. Worrrrrrried.

I'm with you 100% regarding Hersi, he was woeful but since the wanderers has shown what he can do.

I was looking forward to McLaren coming on and was devo when we brought on a more defensive minded player after looking more dangerous than the roar when attacking.

Yeah my thoughts too. But not a great tactic to try soak pressure up at 1-0 agaisnt BR...especially since we got the lead early. Similar tactics against Adelaide will get us romped in the FFA cup final.

^ Agreed - travel, schedule and some subsequent rotation may be behind it? Not sure when McLaren arrived back from Olyroos duty either. Often players who have come back from long distance travel, like international duties and a longer period away, are only slowly brought back into it. From other reading, is Sidnei fit and training yet?
