I don't see how Glory can work on a multi year plan when contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. How many times have we got to the January transfer period just to see key players let go for little or nothing. If they are serious they need to play hard ball and enforce contracts going forward or receive suitable transfer fees in return. Its all good wanting to build around a player like Taggart but at his age his ambition will still be to play OS. If he performs well he will be gone the following season. If he performs badly we will most likely have an overpaid player sitting in our squad.
I don't mind going for the teenagers to develop but for key pieces we need guys who are towards the end of their 20's and looking to settle down.

Letting player go with 6 months on their contracts is probably one of the reasons players sign for Glory. Do any other A-League clubs have this farcical arrangement?

Contracts need more value, they don't place any value on them, so there's your problem. If the contract had a given value attached to it then you'd know it going in, and going out. We've had several big name players leave, surely these had, or should have had a big dollar value going out of the club. There, they had quite a large amount of time after this to acquire some more valuable additions, but seems they just quite didn't know what they were doing @ Glory. They never replaced , Jammo, Maclaren, DDS, Griffiths, etc AND they kept players like Sidnei / Fernandez for too long. Are they learning I ask you, probably not fast enough. My money is they still do not have great overseas networks to provide them with solid fundamentally sound imports. Not ones from the big 4 , or South America either. We need to think like real scouts here, not half baked idiots

The problem with these 3- 4 year strategies is they never get seen through. A run of bad results, manager gets the flick, a couple of players leave and back to square one

PerthRed wrote:The problem with these 3- 4 year strategies is they never get seen through. A run of bad results, manager gets the flick, a couple of players leave and back to square one Amen to that. A previous Glory coach had a four/five year strategy but he was usurped after not even one season. I'm fine with having a strategy, but stick to the fucker. e.g. Year 1: Rebuild team, inject youth (focus on local talent) mixed with experienced payers. Finish 6-8. Year 2: Keep injecting youth with less reliance on experienced players from outside Glory. Finish 4-6. Year 3: Squad should be heavily local based and now ask for OS transfer fees for better players, rotate with fresher players from outside the club. Finish 1-4. Year 4: Plan finally falls into place, win championship. Pretty simple. Except Glory seem to be on a strategy of trying to win the championship every year, excluding youth and playing them when players get injured/suspended as a last resort. The past couple of weeks, with the younger players getting playing time under their belts, Glory have shown a bit of grit with youthful exuberance (and stupidity with two red cards).

A bit of a change of subject but do you guys see us making any more signings this window. Im liking the talk of us signing zak anderson as we need a new cb but i cant see us getting taggart at all. Tbh i'd like us to put a cheeky offer for bulut on the table as i think he would be fully hektic with us and be a 10+ goal a year striker. Looking further ahead we need to get rid of garcia, nebo and zadkovich and replace them with players that will actually be useful to the present and future. We should be looking to players like devante clut and connor pain for this.

Galloway is struggling for game time at Victory and was touted as a future Socceroo by many on this board a year or so ago. Surely a starting left back role on offer at Glory is a huge incentive for him? Zac Anderson I think is quite a strong centre half, and would be a good acquisition (esp. with Thwaite going). Still think he has a bit to develop too. I think someone like Pain wouldn't be a bad buy in either (however I'd probably be more worried about getting support in midfield first). Pain I still think is a bit of a project player, and Perth haven't been the best with developing these players in recent years. Castro is blossoming at the attacking midfield role, now we just need some players behind him, especially a strong box to box player. A role for Clut? I always have liked James Brown too ... just needs to realise his potential (not making the game day squad for City this year). Again not sure if the Glory has the set up in place to really help either of these players develop their game.

Garcia is now saying he wants to sign for another year, gawd help Glory. He'll be running even slower next season. I'd keep Nebo as he will always pop up for a haul of goals every now and then.

Ruben Zadkovich hasn't played really, why ? wasted spot throw him out the door 2 AREAS Perth needs to bolster. Defense and Midfield. Castro Keogh Harold, Sandor Mirankovic, Remiers.. even Garcia is plenty enough up front. Although I'd replace Garcia with an elite mid @ season end.. what's his pay bracket like ? See this is where Melbourne City are leaping ahead of a team like Glory. trapping Caceras now If we could get someone like Mark Milligan we'd have some real strength there., but I doubt that will happen. Griffiths is the type of player every team needs wish he stayed?. But maybe go for a DM who actually doesn't mind getting their hands dirty. Zadko obviously isn't that player Backline is absolutely near non existent. Backline where do you start: Alex Grant Marc Warren Jacob Collard Mitchell Oxborrow Aryn WilliamsNo Thwaite anymore, this is worrisome so we'd probably need Zac Anderson  Edited by highkick05: 19/1/2016 03:29:31 PM

Yeah replacements for Golec and Thwaite are a must. Galloway and/or Anderson I think would be solid signings. Visa spot on a big name CB maybe?

When Djulbic comes back the back line will be fine with: Risdon-----Djulbic----Grant-----Warren Just needs one more back-up CB and Anderson would be ideal whilst Djulbic is still out. Warren has been getting better with game time and now getting up the park to inject some crosses from the left. Williams is a serviceable back up for the RB/CB/LB position. Oxborrow is a MF, just been thrown in as a back whilst injuries/suspensions/pissing off to China/Moldova gets sorted.

Nebo will have another year left, but I would also be inclined to find him a new home. A match winner at times, but such a passenger for most of the rest of the time. Makes it difficult to have a really good functioning midfield with him in there and he takes up a visa spot.
Of course, it won't happen, Kenny just re-signed him a year ago and I suppose Kenny won't be sacked. sigh.

The one player Glory MUST hold on to is Castro. If he is allowed to walk at the end of the season, someone needs to be sacked. Keepers: Castro (MUST MUST MUST) Keogh Grant Djulbic Risdon (if they can) Sandor Ferreira (solid MF and utility) Oxborrow Reiners Covic Tyson Thurtell Mehs: Harold (needs to find his scoring boots) Gligor (needs to find a good fast food store and bulk up a bit) Marinkovic (just wish he wouldn't drift out of games for so long) Williams (serviceable across all back positions) Warren (has his moments and is improving) Tyson (a bit wasted with Covic, either he stays or Covic, not both) Boot: Zadkovich (too crock) Garcia (too slow) Bye bye: Thwaite Golec

What about these HAL prospects staying in the league a few years before jetting off to overseas. (Risdon) I remember so many coaches and critics saying th@ NBA players should do at least 4 years in college before going to the NBA . Then you had Garnett and Kobe skipping College altogether wtf. I think with the current development of our league and players, guys making huge decisions so young is becoming pretty silly considering that this league provides them with A) minutes B) spotlight C) safe and secure environment w/ little to hinder their growth. mentally/physically/spiritually If Risdon takes off I think probably it's a very bad decision this early.

Garcia looking to renew his contract...
Honestly, I think we could keep him on as a 'Tim Cahill' aerial threat, because I think he has that skillset, but he just can't play in midfield anymore, he's just too bloody slow and still thinks he can beat players.

Harold was useful last season, not sure what has happened. Remember lads that when Garcia first decided to come home to Australia, he decided to give the best of his remaining years to Melbourne City before coming over to Glory. He may try to play on the heartstrings of the club by being a 'local boy' but as far as I'm concerned, the club does not owe him anything.

But i just think we are becoming the A league grave now. Holman i think would suffice as long as its with a view of turning a young aussie into a decent midfielder.

Count the games how long he hasn't played, I'm sure he'd personally agree that he should go. Don't think he's worth waiting for I remember a pretty fast red card a while ago, maybe he's hiding something..

After today's result, only just got home but managed to catch the highlights :o - Do we think Glory are starting to find their balance, hit their stride? Castro hitting some ace form, Harold in the goals now, some of the younger or newer lads settling more into the team? Lowe right to talk up Castro, he's really starting to show his quality now and those around him are benefiting. Keogh still get back into necessary fitness too, more he gets back into the swing the better the team will be?
