My above squad has 7 of the starting 11 as WA boys. Pretty fantastic.

Not a Perth Glory fan, but gee i'm loving how they are going about their business.

Perth local boys - Play for the shirt, natural way of bringing fans in/creating a buzz.
All fringe socceroos - Something to prove.
All early signings - give the bulk of the squad a full pre-season.

Asked Davutavic regarding an open marquee slot even if Castro resigns and he is under the impression that all of Williams, Keogh etc are under the cap.. Which is scary if they can sign Castro + a marquee CAM.

This is my squad so far:

____________Covic
Risdon__Lowry___Grant____Herd
_________Williams
Castro_____________Harold
________MARQUEE AM
____Keogh______Taggart

Bench: Sandor? (contracted?), Marinkovic, Warren etc

Love how they are also looking at Brad Jones if Covic goes...

Would have to break the cap to get that line up. And wouldn't play Harold in the midfield. Castro in the hole behind Keogh and Taggart with hopefully DeSilva where you put Castro and Sandor/Oxborrow/Someone else where Harold is.

M'eh.
Marakrounas has been underwhelming in the 3+ years he's been on the scene.
3 goals in 55 appearances is a poor return for an attacking player (either striker or AM), even before you consider that 2 of those goals were against state league opposition in the cup.

Kennt is going to have to fill the empty slots with NPL kids once we've signed a marquee.
De Silva will be back, which will be great, but we badly need a link between our defence and Keogh/Taggart/Harold

What do we think of signing Ryan Williams if we don't get De Silva?

15 of those appearances have only been starts, with the others all as a sub.

Have to say, I'm strongly rethinking my "don't fuck up off-field for two years before I consider becoming a member again" stance for the upcoming season. Unless something dramatically bad happens in the off-season, I'll likely be back on board with the idea of giving the club my money

Herd cushions the blow of the inevitable Risdon departure. Either now (for a fee) or next season. Loving targeting talented local players for returns home. Bit like we started doing with Edwards (:-$ ) but with better players. Squad is looking quality, but potentially questionable going forward in midfield as people say. A lot depends on whether we can keep Castro, or lightning strikes twice and we find a similar level replacement.

I'd be happy to have Makarounas back as a squad player, Lowe may even be able to finally unlock some of the potential he showed back before he originally joined us. I mean, he managed to make Warren look like a serviceable footballer (if you squint.)

I've been saying this for years! Bloody good player and is one of the best Australians I've seen when it comes to playing through balls. With Keogh and Taggart up front, he'd be brilliant in midfield.

Yeah i think he said once a few years back he wasn't interested in coming to Aus then but he's 30 now and out of contract in a few months. He's born in England so i assume most of his family still live there so there's not the come home factor.

With both MV and MC looking for midfielders for next season he could command a decent $ especially with his aus citizenship.
Gonna be an interesting off season for aussies o/s with some clubs already making big squad cleanouts.

Could it actually be possible? Could glory actually break the cycle of failure and force their way back as a permanent contender? This rebuild is actually intriguing me.

The fans have been saying that they should focus on signing WA talent and they've done that well. IMO this should form the absolute core of the identity of the club, similar to Bilbao and Basque players. It would help foster a strong sense of identity and purpose, which is something Perth Glory have been arguably lacking since the NSL..

Ryan Williams should be chased as you don't have wingers for a 442. If you go with 4-3-1-2 and don't get DDS, Malakarounas wouldnt be a bad signing as he excels in the free role at 10.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/31479195/glory-prepare-for-castro-exit/

Quote:
Coach Kenny Lowe will fly to Europe next week, with a visit to Spain in the pipeline to identify a new left-sided player capable of filling Castro’s role and complementing strikers Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart.

The Spaniard is due to tell Glory officials whether he will accept their offer and sign on for the 2016-17 season.

The 33-year-old is believed to have received a $1.4 mill-ion deal to play in India next season, an offer that is more in line with his financial expectations on the back of an outstanding A-League season.

Quote:
Discussions are continuing with former Liverpool keeper, WA’s Brad Jones, who is weighing up a return to the A-League with his six-month contract with Dutch club NEC about to end.

Fellow WA keeper Mark Birighitti is also out of contract at Newcastle Jets and of strong interest to Glory.

So seems more likely Castro won't re-sign. Still hoping.

Would be great to see Birighitti back in Perth. Love seeing our starting 11 full of WA players. Even Keogh has a bit of a WA feel with his younger brother playing for Inglewood and family living in WA.

------Keogh--Taggart--------
-----------Castro
-----Sandor-----DeSilva
-----------Williams
Herd---Grant-Lowry--Risdon
------------Birighitti

[-o< [-o< [-o<

The goalkeeper, AM and potential Castro replacement are going to be vital for Kenny during the offseason.

We can forget Birighetti. In Sunday's local rag, it said Glory approached but he was more interested in pursuing opportunities in Europe.

Good to see the Brad Jones rumour I was on about a while ago picking up some steam. With rumours of Covic leaving for family reasons cementing, Brad would be a good replacement. Would be interesting to see how much money he would want. Lets hope he's cashed up from playing with Liverpool over the years that his demands wont be too high.

Don't know much about Wilson personally but I hope he is a good pickup. Hopefully ends up like Grant who had a stint on the sidelines at the start of the season to adjust and did very well in central defence last season with Lowry when given the chance to shine!

Don't think it was ever mentioned here but word was the third Williams brother was sounded out to come back as well by Glory. I have no idea if anything will ever eventuate though.

This fourfourtwo article from six months ago has some more detailed information on Brandon Wilson

http://www.fourfourtwo.com/au/news/burnleys-brandon-wilson-keeping-options-open#:KL73OvxgdZoI-A

Quote:

Burnley's Brandon Wilson keeping options open

Young Socceroo Brandon Wilson is enjoying his time at Burnley but admits he could move away from the English Championship club next year in search of first-team football.

Wilson, who was born in Africa and spent his childhood in England and Western Australia, joined Burnley in 2013. The 19-year old midfielder has been playing for the Clarets Under-21s and is contracted to the club until the end of the 2015/2016 season.

“Things at Burnley are going decent,” Wilson told FourFourTwo.

“I have been playing a lot with the 21’s. As a team the under 21's have been doing really well, we went 11 games in a row without losing a game. I feel like my confidence is growing as each game goes on.

“I haven't had a chance yet with the first-team, but if the chance does come up I will be ready to give it my all.”

Wilson is hoping to go on loan at some point this season to gain more experience.

“There have been conversations with my agent and some staff at Burnley that loan moves would be a good move for me to get first team football,” he said.

“It looks promising that it would happen this season.”

Wilson is happy at Turf Moor but said he may have to leave the club next season to further his career.

“It would be nice to get offered another contract with Burnley, at the same time I wouldn't mind moving clubs to hopefully learn more styles of play and develop more as a first team footballer,” he said.

Wilson is one of just two Australians left at Burnley after fellow Aussies Kevin Ly, Callum Richardson, Daniel Nizic and Alex Cisak all departed in the past 18 months.

Cisak joined League Two side Leyton Orient while Nizic moved to Crewe on loan and Richardson signed for Melbourne City in the A-League.

Aiden O’Neill is a member of Burney’s Under-18s squad. The 17-year-old, originally from Brisbane, joined the club last year.

“Obviously it would be hard losing my Australian mates, so it was hard to say goodbye and it felt different around the club,” Wilson said.

“But it's something I had to live with.”

Wilson has represented Australia at Under-20 level and was involved in the AFC Under-19 Championships held in Laos earlier this year.

The central midfielder said he was thrilled to be involved.

“Playing for the Young Socceroos was definitely my favourite footballing experience so far,” he said.

“It was the proudest and most exiting moment of my life so far I would have to say.”

If Vadocz was going to be given the chop,he would have been gone by now?

Maybe they are putting the two side by side and making a decision?

Zadkovich was part of the named coaching staff on the team sheet for the NPL game on the weekend - so coaching/training maybe?

Thurtell works towards A-League debut
4th May 2016 11:45 AM

PROGRESSING: Jordan Thurtell at Perth Glory. Perth Glory FC
FOOTBALL: Perth goalkeeping coach Danny Milosevic has lauded Sunshine Coast’s Jordan Thurtell, suggesting the teenager is still in line for a berth in the A-League.

The 19-year-old linked with the club two years ago, despite interest from Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC.

He’s yet to make an appearance in the top flight but is doing all the right things for the club’s National Premier Leagues outfit.

Milosevic, a former Leeds custodian, has been pleased with his progress.

“I think he’s in a good space”, he said via the club’s website.

“There’s no rush for Jordan, he just has to continue his development.

“We see him as a potential goalkeeper for Perth in the A-League.”

Thurtell isn’t the only Sunshine Coast goal keeper at the Glory. Jerrad Tyson is also there.

But experienced campaigner Ante Covic is the club’s main man at the back.

Thurtell has been guided by them.

"You learn a lot from them, they’re guys with lots of experience,” Thurtell said.

“The calmness of their game is a big influence I think.”

Thurtell has represented Australia through the junior and youth ranks, including at under-19 level.

He said he was eager to pursue career in England eventually.

“My idol was always Mark Schwarzer growing up,” he said.

“He’s an Aussie over there in England and it’s really what I aspire to be further in my career, so hopefully one day I can get to that level.”

Hope to see Thurtell starting for Glory some day. Dont want to lose him then be stuck with one of the a league keepers constantly in rotation.
