southern3 wrote:fox sports wrote:Mile Sterjovski urges A-League players to seek pre-World Cup loan deal By Adrian Warren July 20, 2009 Mile Sterjovski says even those who don't fancy their chances of making Australia's World Cup squad should consider a loan stint overseas after the A-League season.
The domestic competition is scheduled to finish on March 20, almost three months before the start of the World Cup in South Africa.
Sterjovski, who has returned to Australia to play for Perth Glory, said he would definitely look to go on loan in that period berfore the World Cup, though he hadn't given much thought yet to where he would play.
"If you want to be part of the World Cup squad you've got to think about those things and you have to go out and play until the World Cup and play regular football," Sterjovski told reporters in Sydney.
"I think that's very important, even for players who might not think they are in the running to be in the World Cup squad, I think they should even look at going out on loan until then."
Sterjovski said he had made a financial sacrifice to return to Australia.
"Financially in Europe, there's much more money, even in Asia there's much more money," Sterjovski said.
"But you have to make these sort of decisions to find out what's best for yourself for the future and I've never made a decision based on money in my career and I have put the Socceroos ahead of anything."
Sterjovski was in Sydney for the announcement of the sponsorship of the Young Footballer of the Year Award by the NAB.
Several of Australia's most promising young players were present, including Gold Coast United striker Tahj Minniecon, who has just recovered from a dose of swine flu.
Minniecon will journey to South America later this week for a Young Socceroos tour.
"I'm feeling good and I will definitely be on the plane on Wednesday," Minniecon said.
While his club wanted him to stay at home, Minniecon said he would have been disappointed not to play for the Young Socceroos as he was always excited to play for his country.
The exciting attacker revealed there had been no sympathy among his team mates after he came down with swine flu.
"There was a lot more teasing than anything else," Minniecon said.
AAP http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25808187-5000940,00.htmlMass exodus from A-League end of season, you heard it hear first! I would suggest the exodus will be mostly loan deals. so we should retain most everyone. and gain a whole lot more as more roos come home after the WC.

The West wrote:Think big to thrive, Perth urged 21st July 2009, 6:15 WST A cultural precinct in the city, extended trading hours in the central business district and a multipurpose sports stadium are among ideas for improving Perth that former Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive John Langoulant will discuss at a conference on the city’s future. Mr Langoulant, one of several high-profile guests who will present ideas for the development of the city at the 2030 Summit on July 31, said yesterday that Perth was a great metropolis but had the capacity to be greater. He said that more community consultation based planning for infrastructure projects needed to happen now to ensure the city continued to grow. Foremost among the ideas he would present was a proposal to develop a new cultural precinct in the central business district, stretching from His Majesty’s Theatre on Hay Street down to William Street in Northbridge. “I’d like to see a lot more activity in and around the city, which would mean the extension of trading hours,” he said. “I’d like to see some of the critical infrastructure in the city more social than economic in nature.” Mr Langoulant also said the city needed to open up pedestrian-friendly entertainment and shopping corridors that connected city landmarks such as the Perth Mint and areas such as East Perth to the CBD. The need for far-sighted planning was crucial for his vision of the city to succeed, because commitments to build new projects would encourage private-sector investment and development. Mr Langoulant said that, most importantly, Government, planners and the community needed to shift their mindset on the size of Perth. “We need to think of ourselves as a much bigger city than we do today,” he said. “We need to think of ourselves as a great city on the Indian Ocean rim and we need to build our infrastructure accordingly. “We shouldn’t build small stadiums, we shouldn’t build small ?theatres, we should build for the future.” Mr Langoulant said while the WA economy should continue to be geared primarily around the resource sector for the next 50 to 100 years, opportunities existed for the State to benefit by becoming a leading provider of education and health care services to nations around the Indian Ocean rim. HAVE YOUR SAY Bold new ideas to develop Perth will be unveiled by some of the nation’s top minds at a conference designed to stimulate discussion about the city’s future. Speakers including former Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive John Langoulant, transport mogul Lindsay Fox and former Defence Force chief Peter Cosgrove will present solutions to pressing challenges facing Perth. Organised by LandCorp, the 2030 Summit will look at transport, communications, tourism, health care and public facilities. Chief executive Ross Holt said it would bring together business owners, residents, government agencies and community groups as well as the big names. LandCorp offers readers of The West Australian a chance to be involved. Send your ideas on what is important to your community, family and way of life to webeditor@thewest.com.au. The best 10 ideas will win a tickets valued at $450 for the July 31 summit. PERTH JOSEPH CATANZARO http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=77&ContentID=156605Fingers crossed that will come off, even if the stadium is like etihad with the seating the glory can use the lower tier and would still have a reasonable amount of atmosphere. Plus, you could probs also play cricket there too if you had a wicket that you be removed easily and replaced with grass in like half an hour. That'd be the brilliance of multi-purposing. How wicked would it be if it was also like the bird cage in beijing where the turf is in like 3x3 squares which can be replaced when they get damaged.

I would have thought that building a rectangular stadium would have been a great boost for the economy. So if its not happening now we may have to wait a while. and i hope i get my pack quicker then later. its like an early christmas preseant.

Quote:Coyne pleased with fitness
22nd July 2009, 12:45 WST Socceroos defender Chris Coyne has erased doubts over his fitness following his first run-out with Perth Glory on the weekend.
Coyne, who played an hour in the heart of defence during Glory’s 1-0 friendly win over North Queensland in Mandurah, said he pulled up well after the game.
“I was quite surprised at how fit I was. I wasn’t too sure going into the game but after getting a good 60-minute hit-out I’m looking forward to the game on Saturday,” Coyne said.
Coyne, family arrives in Perth on Saturday from the UK, is expected to be a part of coach Dave Mitchell’s first-choice pairing in the centre of defence is excited about the prospect of making his A-League debut away to Adelaide United on August 7.
“If selected I’ll be ready and raring to go. The boys have done a long pre-season now, they’ve worked their socks off, so I think everyone just wants to get into the league,” Coyne said.
“With the expectation levels rising we just want to go out and prove to people what we can achieve. We think we’ll have a great season this year.”
Coyne will play a key role in Glory's final pre-season friendly, against Gold Coast United in Bunbury on Saturday.
Coyne feels he is already creating a solid bond with former English Premier League defender Andy Todd and goalkeeper Tando Velaphi, despite having been back in his hometown for less than two weeks.
And the Socceroos defender thinks the squad is more than capable of covering for the loss of fans favourite Jamie Harnwell, who tore his hamstring against the Fury.
“My brother Jamie (Coyne) can come in for Jamie (Harnwell) now that he’s injured,” Coyne said.
“Todd did really well when he came in there on Saturday at centre-half for me.
“We’ve got strength and depth and it’s the first time we’ve had that for a while I think. That’s why we are so enthusiastic and so optimistic about the season ahead.”
Saturday’s Glory-Gold Coast clash kicks off at 2.00pm at Hands Oval, Bunbury.
PERTH SHAYNE HOPE
