Actually, why not? I mean, if Mitch is going with one upfront and he sees Dadi's physical presence as an advantage over Fury, then yeah, why not? He had a good run in the NYL last week, his confidence may be growing and we know how effective Dadi was last season, Mitch certainly does.
Jelic, if he doesn't start alongside, would very likely sub on, to play alongside Dadi or replace him, some time earlier in the second half. So no real biggie in that way.

Well obviously it didn't work. i imagine Mitch thought we needed something to stop us from playing crap football. unfortunately it continued. Whilst that was a horrible goal I guess it evens out the Brisbane goal. even though hat didn't decide the game and this did.

Haven't posted in this thread for a while.
Mitchell is starting to lose his mind. He keeps playing Howarth. Started Dadi instead of Jelic. Just staggering how that has come about.

The Dadi move was a bit ill advised i'll grant you but i have some faith that mitch can turn it around. he got a hastily assembled group of lads to play some great footbnall early. hopefully he can do it again. As for the Burns situation i would imagine Coyne to CM and Neville to right back. and Howarth back in the squad so maybe again Jukic will miss out.

In the west today we had the back page and a whole other page later in the sport section entirely devoted to not just football, but football in Australia. do you think this spells a new age in how the media treat football. it's like they've finally realised how much football has grown in popularity.

What was today's back page? I missed it.

The back page was this Dave. PERTH GLORY owner Tony Sage is prepared to let his three prized Socceroos recruits miss the finals series if it means they go to the World Cup. The issue of how A-League players can keep themselves in Pim Verbeek's plans will come to a head by January 31 - the deadline for the completion of overseas loan deals. Agents working on behalf of a swath of A-League hopefuls have already begun sounding out clubs in the Middle East, China, Japan and the US. However, the deadline comes at a heavy price, potentially robbing the competition of many of its biggest names at the business end of the season. While the likelihood of Verbeek - a critic of the domestic game - selecting more than a handful of A-League players is remote, it won't stop many home-based players looking to give themselves every opportunity. Sage has funded the return of Chris Coyne, Mile Sterjovski and Jacob Burns this season, and the return on his investment has Perth Glory sitting in equal second place and with a genuine chance of making the finals for the first time. But Sage admits he's willing to possibly sacrifice the chances of a title if that means giving his Socceroos trio a World Cup lifeline. ''We've been well aware of this situation for a long time, we've been talking to lots of clubs in Asia, and if it means letting the players go before the finals, then, absolutely, we'll be doing that,'' he said. ''Firstly it's about what's in the best interests of Perth Glory, secondly it's about what's in the best interests of the players, and thirdly it's about what's in the best interests of the game overall. Do you think if we denied these boys the opportunity, they'd be happy to keep playing with Perth Glory? I don't think so. ''It's a tricky issue, and we're the club which will be affected the most. But these boys wouldn't have signed with us unless we were willing to accommodate them. That's the agreement we have in place, and Pim was part of those discussions. ''Everything I've been about since I took over this club is based on two- and three-year plans. These boys will be with us for a long while. So it's short-term pain for long-term gain. The spirit and the depth we've got is good enough. [Coach] Dave Mitchell might have a different opinion, but he doesn't own the club. And you can quote me on that.'' While Sage is willing to bend over backwards for the Socceroos, he wants assurances from Verbeek first. ''There's no use taking this any further if Pim doesn't want to use them,'' he said. ''If Pim is going to leave out everyone from the A-League, then it's an easy decision for the players, and for us. So we want to make sure they are in contention before we start seriously talking to the overseas clubs. That's a long discussion I'll be having with Pim at the end of the year. We need some assurances.'' Perhaps significantly, Verbeek has so far ignored the Perth Glory trio since they decided to return home from Europe - Brisbane Roar defender Craig Moore and Gold Coast United midfielder Jason Culina are the only A-League players in the squad picked for last weekend's friendly against The Netherlands and tomorrow night's Asian Cup qualifier against Oman. A-League boss Archie Fraser admits losing big-name players for the finals series is far from ideal, and is hoping a solution to the problem can be sorted out closer to home. Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory will be playing in next year's Asian Champions League, and there are no deadlines for loan deals within Australia. The ACL schedule offers a minimum of three games for players involved in the A-League grand final on March 20, and a maximum of seven games for players with clubs which don't make the finals, or are eliminated during the finals series. ''We've been working on this for a while, and the red tape is a massive challenge,'' Fraser said. ''Probably the best solution is not overseas, but in our own backyard. We would much prefer players see out the season here before going anywhere on loan. ''We'll do whatever we can to make sure the players have a chance to go to the World Cup, but at the same time we don't want to jeopardise the A-League. Hopefully Adelaide and Melbourne can give us the solution, although I stress nothing has been finalised yet.'' http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/world-cup-before-glory-for-perth-trio/2009/10/12/1255195744685.html

I was glad Mitch finally gave Dadi a chance, albeit he surprised many of us by starting him, rather than a subs stint. But in the end, it worked, right? Dadi was the one who 'assisted'/set up Sikora's match winning goal!
And where is Amaral? What a dismal 'Guest Stint' this is turning out to be for him! He must be 5 games into his 9 match stint and he doesn't even look like he's going to play. lol I'm surprised they don't have him playing in the NYL, as he may aswell be!
Oh well, Amaral worked hard and even paid his way over here, so his gaining the contract was a reward in itself. I just hope Mitch doesn't overlook him from now on, due to what happened when we hosted GCU a few weeks ago, which was minor in the scheme of things (And maybe more Mitch's fault, tactically, anyway).
Maybe Glory should gun for a big name, AM/#10 like guest player? As that seems to be where the need, if there is one, is and where Mitch ended up trying Amaral, against GCU. But I suppose that would be having one's cake and eating it too, as recently Sikora has done very well playing behind the striker/s in recent times, with Sterj moved out wide.
I kind of feel sorry, but also confused, by the Amaral scenario, but then I'm reminded that this season's team is a vastly different kettle of fish from the one of last season, where Amaral was set to be a key player. Jacob Burns is essentially his replacement, and he's doing a pretty good job, obviously. Srhoj came in mid last season (Also kind of replacing the then injured Amaral) and has also hardly missed a beat since.

Exactly right. but i wouldn't mind seeing him play one or two more before he leaves. Also as for Todd being out. do you think it will be brothers Coyne in the middle and Neville out wide?

In regards to Dadi, I definitely think his more effective coming off the bench in the last 20 or 30 minutes and having a real impact rather than starting.
Im worried and J.Coyne at centre back, as I assume he will be Todd's replacement in that position for the next two weeks ... oh how I wish harnwell was fit! Lets just hope that his brother Chris can sort him out and he plays well in that position, if he is the replacement.

Oh whoops, lol I even saw Jelic's early misses in highlights but still got my wires crossed, - #-o thanks for the polite correction. :) BTW If Jelic had more composure, he should put that one away, when he beat the offside trap and was one on one with the GK. And well, well, that would be interesting indeed - sounds alright on paper though I'm not sure when Jamie Coyne last played CB, but he was originally a CB, right? Edit: Oh I see Harnwell is still out? That's a big shame as he would've slotted in as CB replacement, no question. BTW Didn't know Amaral was injured, thanks. And yeah glorywonderland, he seems quite the talent and as I suggested before, our squad seems to have reasonable depth, especialy in midfield, so hence why Amaral hasn't seen much time either. Jukic has looked good in his stints so far - Doesn't look out of place at A-League level, showed some nice touches. I'd like to see him given a run, instead of the likes of Howarth, who's had plenty more opportunity thus far. Though Howarth has a left foot doesn't he, so I'm guessing that works in his favour, left flank wise.

Jamie Coyne was actually a Right Midfielder in the State League and at Glory when he was younger. The right back shift came later. He also played central mid in the state league for a while, if I recall correctly. He's abysmal in that position at A-League level however...

Oh I see - BTW Scott Neville plays CB, or is just as capable at CB, apparently? It would be interesting if Mitch gave him a start there. :o It may be too early to give Brent Griffiths a shot at starting, when he hasn't even tasted A-League action yet. But Mitch gave him a senior contract for a reason and given we're a little light on CBs, Mitch must have alot of faith in the likes of Neville and Griffiths to come in there. I say this because, Mitch could've easily signed another late 20s something A-League/NSL veteran from one of the state leagues, for more squad depth. But he didn't, even though we were bound to be vulnerable if one or more of C.Coyne/Todd were to be injured/absent for a substantive period. Edited by GloryPerth: 15/10/2009 03:52:11 AM
